Wow, talk about a "lost track" - here in the US, it was waaaay under the radar, but I got hold of a promo copy... and wow, it grew on me like you can't believe. Went on one of my mix tapes and damn... what a great throwback! But there's a better version... with the lyrics you showed, but it's not "jim's tune". Try this: "czcams.com/video/Pdr62gpy0FM/video.html"
Thanks for doing a song by Joan! I saw her play live in 1983/4-ish timeframe. I loved it! She's tremendous! Singer/Songwriter/Performer par excellence! Try "Temptation" or "Talking To The Wall" from her Temptation album. Soooo good.
The lyric sheet you are using is wrong. Should be "You're like a bad rumor, baby. You're all over town" and not "You're like a bad river, baby..."
I’ve watched a lot of these “Psycho reaction” bits because it is my favorite film of all time and I truly enjoy seeing people experience it for the first time. Your presentation has been one of the best I’ve seen. You are an intelligent young man and it definitely shows with your literate and thoughtful analysis. It was fun to watch your reactions and to share in your real-time observations. Every step of the way, there was never any doubt that you were fully invested and recognizing the true genius of Hitchcock’s mastery of the medium and the quality of this magnificent film. Exemplary work!
Bro , did you read ahead? You said bowing before the neon God before it was sung.....just asking for a friend😂😂
As a little punk rock dweeb raised in the eighties, i whole heartedly endorse this reaction.
People might find it funny but that's what really going on in reality. Most of the eople doesn't think logically when it comes to god cause they're afraid.
I love Danny boy! Thanks for sharing with your generation. 😢miss him.
Yes, she did all the dancing herself: it's expressive dancing so may not be choreographed though - not sure. She had training with an expressive dance tutor and did her own thing from there.
This song is just one long female orgasm. What's not to like?
When I was in high school when this song came out, my sophomore year and I was listening to songs with a friend, this a boy told me this song was about a gay relationship and pointed to the lyric: You tell yourself you're not my kind But you don't even know your mind And you could have a change of heart
If you were a kid in the 70's this song changed your life. My father got this great job and moved us into a middle class predominately white suburb. The neighbors were cool, I assume they were mostly progressive. No racial stuff at all given we were the only black family in that neighborhood in late 60's early 70s in eastern PA. Anyway I met little white kids for the first time and quickly made friends. I never listened to "rock" music before, only mostly Motown. This white kid my age around 13 invited me to his home and his house had this extension where music stereos and speakers and blacklight posters, and he turned off the light turned on the black lights and told me to just listen and played the song Roundabout by Yes. I was like OMG what is this music. I was hooked on rock. Another friend asked if I had ever heard Funeral for a Friend by Elton John. I said no and I went to his house and he played this song. The first part was so beautiful but felt sad and is brought both tears and later a smile. He asked if I were ok and then the last part love lies bleeding. Oh my, I could have been a cave girl who just found electricity. This song opened my mind to all kids of possibilities. Even today so may decades later the beauty of this song still moves me 😎
You are one of my top 5 reviewers. I am 70 and your reviews are far too in depth, and insightful, for your young age. Keep up the good work. ......... Beautiful and sad song that I and my wife listened to in the 80's. ....... Still mists me up.
What thoughtful and articulate and observant reaction! thanks! I hadn-t noticed that 3 time table detail! well done!
I like: 1. You can do magic 2. A horse with no name 3. Ventura highway
Heart and Soul is another good one
Hi, I've never written on your page before even though I have watched your channel's reactions a few different times and have found them very enjoyable. However, after watching your reaction to this one and seeing that you really liked it, you should watch them doing this song live. There is a live tv version from the Ed Sullivan from 1968 that I've seen quite a few people doing reactions for on this song, and these 4 guys are very good performers live. With myself being a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist starting at the age of 12 years old, I thought these guys did a great job live on this song. The keyboard played does lead vocals while the guitar player, bass player and drummer do all the backing vocals. I played in the 80's and 90's so that's something that you used to see a lot of with more then one singer in the band. I was in two different bands where all of us could sing lead vocals, so we did all kinds of harmonies like these bands did. It was normal to see this in bands back then. But you won't see it now or even for the last 25 years or so. But I just thought it's something you would enjoy so I thought I would mention it when I saw your reaction to the audio version. Great work.
I was 14 when this came out. 1981. I went to my first Stranglers gig at The Odeon in Birmingham (UK's second city after London). It was the La Folie album tour. Remember, the band up to this point were a band born in the UK punk era but emerged with their "sound" intact. So the gig I mention was them blasting through their "punk" hits. Everyone in the venue dressed in black wearing leather jackets and pogoing. Then Dave played this song. The venue was silent. Everyone stood still. No-one had heard it before. At the end, the place erupted. Hairs on my neck standing up just writing this. I have followed the band for 44 years, and through their "Strangled" magazine, and a mate of mine being their official photographer for a number of years, I got to spend a day with JJ Burnel (my inspiration for becoming a gigging bass player), and Dave, with his lovely wife, at their pub - The Windmill in Somersham. I asked Dave about Golden Brown, recounting the above memory, it was a great conversation, one I will cherish - along with playing the pub's "Give Us A Break" quiz machine - old UK folk will remember these. JJ has written Dave ".. was a musical perfectionist and could be awkward in social situations; observations consistent with his diagnosis, never made public during his lifetime, autism". All Stranglers fans know he was a quizaholic - but I can tell you he made me answer all the sport questions, as he insisted that wasn't his strongest topic 🙂RIP Dave and another of the band I got to spend an hour 1 on 1 with, Jet Black. Both were absolute gents. Love to all x
Going to Lost Wages….a great chorus even 50 years later!
Magnificent
love how you *instantly* figured out the rhythm
Tim is not like Bo. Bo is like Tim
'Ole Audiophile to Dicon Dissectional: 3 years hence this shows up today. We've missed you. I was a huge Nilsson fan for a time, early on Harry buried us in real dooisies. This was one of my early quadrophonic album purchases, the first CD-4 discrete recording I owned. It's a Mobile Fidelity Stereo DSD SACD as well. I'm not sure I'd put much stock in the lyrics because of some of the wilder rumors of the source cause of this song's creation. It's rumored that Harry made a bet with a friend/peer he could record a successful hard rock song, something he never ventured for or since he produced this piece. I own a fair amount of his music & yeah, this is off the hook different for him so I believe this bet existed. This was an awful long time ago & most called the press scandal rags even then...Thanx
These are the crib notes, in case you are writing an essay for senior year English
I was a student when this came out, and it was fun seeing people try to dance to this track:) Love it and pretty much all the Stranglers stuff.
2 of the greatest songs ever written and you have misinterpreted them. This song, which was written by Thompson and is the greatest love song of all time. The other was your reaction of Any Major Dude by Steely Dan. This was the most feel good song ever by Steely Dan. The major dude is comforting a friend in a time of need. You somehow construed this to be a negative song.
Unforgettable, unique and hilarious
This band was auper tight! No rain was their worst song. You should try chsnge wood stock 94
Wow the beginning of the track being cut off missing the full Bill Graham intro is painful lol
That's the music my generation listened to, because we could! Thanks for reminding me!!
Timeless
I think the fans were more responsible for her coming out from behind her drums because th ey wanted to SEE her. I saw them live in the early 70s and you couldn't see her behind all those cymbals, so it made sense that they brought her out front. They would often let her drum for a song or two during their concerts, which made her very happy.
I love to see young folks appreciating the music I loved so much when I was young myself! Thanks for showcasing the Carpenters!
Yoi were shire in your napoleon's nappies. That jew voice extends yours all about jews opions . Whichever . Hi Victoria
Viet Nam war... We lost thousands.
I’ve watched many reactions to this album and yours is one of the best!
Interesting that the Intro ends with, “the meek shall inherit the earth”. Then you point out the priests don’t actually have ill intent. But in the end they are overthrow. Does that imply those who don’t get involved with ruling and politics will end up better off?
I love how Rush makes you think, and think and think. I’ve watched dozens of reactions to 2112 and learn from every one. Loved how you suggest the end of the Intro is a spaceship landing and I’d never thought about the RED STAR. Awesome! ❤
Pure brilliance, I remember being mesmerised listening to this on a friend’s copy of the album Next when I was at school. Fabulous choice of track to react to. Here’s an observation: it may be coincidence that they are both Scottish, but despite being of different musical genres, I hear traces of Alex Harvey in the voice of Bon Scott. Both now sadly gone, RIP 🙏
To me she is the greatest jazz singer...ever
It's about modern Debt Slavery 😰
the idea that it could go wrong is bs & dramatic
its so fucking weird this one,it was serial killer dennis nilsens favorite song,he heard it everytime he was drunk...imagine being there, god damn!!
I´ve always believed that it was like a father´s advise or point of view, like he is trying to confort his daughther, it´s seams he cares a lot about the girl!!
I just love this track. Put your headphones on crank up the volume YESSS!!! Do the song "NEXT" next.
I knew this song when it first came out but I had never seen the official video to it,.................until about 2 hours ago and since then I have played about ten different reaction videos and yours is the only one that mentions the visual story and what is going on with the body painting and stuff. I did see it a little differently as in he first starts to sing about the relationship, he is naked and no paint on him, the more he sings, the more he gets the paint job, we pull out and we see the girl, in the same paint job, they were together, as one, she gives her very emotional side to the story then shifts over to the right, apart, the paint job on the girl dissolves, as does the relationship but he is left with the paint job, all the fragmented complications.
Love to see the kids react to our 90s deities. P.J. is one of those who has maintained her artistic integrity. To her toes.
I saw Dan at Chastain Park, atlanta,....1985? a posh venue...the front tables were a bunch of rowdies who would NOT SHUT UP, (thought they were at a pub) he asked them to please be quiet 3 ? times, ... he finally said good night and left after an hour. to fulfill his contract ? aside from that ...he was solo and great.
Dying Days and Troubled Times are two bangers you should do.
My brother danced with my mother at his wedding to Zevon's 'Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner'. It's not exactly a wedding song but our family has always adored Zevon and his peculiarities. RIP
