@@livjames8624 First of all, calm down buddy. You need to look at objectively. He trapped people in the cage and killed people in season 1 , which is terrible. But in season 2, he decides to change that. Which is why he let go of that ID guy. I'm not justifying his action of trapping that guy into cage, but he got this far from killing people in cage to letting them go without any harm. And if you argue that it was because of circumstances, Voila he let go of delilah, whom he did not involve himself into than that of Beck. Until the real psychopath love killed her without any mercy, just out of her desire. And we could truly see joe was gonna kill her with despise, because everything he did to change for her flipped just because of her. (Ps: sorry for my bad grammar)

I don’t think we should victim-blame Beck too much since A) We’re on Joe’s PoV and B) Stalkers tend to be attracted to extremely vulnerable people. Yeah, Beck was dumb for not having curtains and other things, but at the end of the day, Joe is still a piece of crap for taking advantage of Beck.
I’m just saying that I genuinely love how Joe is written because on one hand, we’re on his side but on the other hand we’re terrified as fuck for his victim. The fact that Pen Badgely hates his character certainly helps.
@My pronouns are Goddess / Your majesty "consequences" lmao he straight up killed her... That's in no way to be called consequences for her stupidity
@My pronouns are Goddess / Your majesty it is victim blaming tho.. instead of shitting on what beck(the victim) did, maybe tell guys this stalker type shit isn't okay. it's no ones fault but his.
The hell amount of victim-blaming comments I read about Beck was very concerning...
@My pronouns are Goddess / Your majesty Sure, Beck was unaware at times but that doesn’t necessarily tie in with Joe’s obsessive behavior. Beck was a diversely complicated character. Her dumb moves are seen as dumb because they come from Joe’s perspective, not Beck’s.
@My pronouns are Goddess / Your majesty bro THATS VICTIM BLAMING. Nothing bad should’ve happened to her to begin with, because you know who to blame? THE PEOPLE DOING BAD THINGS TO HER DUH

The way he's not really listening to Beck when she's talking about why she wants to be a writer is very telling. He's not really interested in her as a person, she's an object to acquire.
No, hes just a too stuck in his head.
Exactly, and the men who defend him and always blame the victim whenever a girl is sexually harrassed by a man for literally doing nothing, are also misogynists who view women as objects. They don't want women to habe their own opinion, be happy or do what they want freely. They want to be able to control every single move they make, and think the world revolves around them
"Look at that how dare she invade your privacy like that... it's perverse!" he says as he pretty much does the same thing
True! His hypocritical thinking made me rage at first but then i realize that that is exactly what the show wants you to feel and pretty much the whole point of his internal monologue, to prove that hes a horrible person even w/o killing all those ppl

The most tragic thing about Joe is that he still has everything a woman would find attractive and desirable in a man. He’s very intelligent, loyal (to his obsession, but still loyalty), capable, charming and aware of people’s true intentions. If he had just kept his urges under control, grew up with proper guardians, and did not have a distorted view on what love is; he would have women flocking to him.
he is NOT loyal. He get's bored once he realizes he cannot control the other one.
@@LadyLilith1015 yeah like he dove right in when it came to the neighbor in season 3 lmao. And then the whole marienne storyline. Which is just like, why are they trying to get us to root for a new love interest for him when we know at this rate she’ll die too eventually 😭
I think saying he is loyal to his obsession, which is stalking and killing, is accurate. Like he did shit in season 3 to try to get close to marienne even though he’s like “I would never do this but only for you” because he is loyal to that disgustingly obsessive side of himself.
@@LadyLilith1015 that’s why i said loyal to his obsession. That’s still loyalty. So if he was a healthy person, that loyalty is desirable. Please read carefully, I’m not even trying to defend the psycho. 😂

I believe, all the girls who like Joe, need to come together and discuss how problematic our desires are. It’s like we are ‘dying’ for those red flags.
Funny enough, women actually die when they get involved with guys like him in real life, so.. that discussion needs to happen.
It is horrible to see comments from women who are super thirsty for Joe...
Like OPEN YOUR F****İNG EYES!
He love bombs and uses romantic love to manipulate women.
He “helps” women.
If he wants too much too fast that’s a red flag.
Don’t forget to go to the cemeteries to get ALL the women together, even the ones that fell for these men and were murdered
Because they are girls and not women.
Beck’s character was MEANT to be bland and boring. It’s to emphasize how any women (or man) can be preyed upon by someone who builds a sick narrative in their head and decides to stalk them. Tbh Beck is as bland and dumb as it gets but she NEVER deserved the actions joe took because he thought they were “perfect”. He’s a sick creepy man just like so many out there that really stalk and murder women
Exactly. The show did a really good job with that and showing Joe’s pathology. How he just picks a pretty girl and instantly builds up this image of them in his mind of this perfect, ethereal, amazingly kind otherworldly woman, before he’s even met them, when in the real world they’re just regular old girls with bad traits and flaws and boring personalities. They did it with Love, too. He’d read her all wrong to both their detriments. Anyone saying Beck was nothing special got the point and yet still somehow managed to miss it lol. Beck’s death was really tragic. She was just trying to live her life and find happiness and Joe came along and swallowed her up. Very sad, very realistic though.
@@potato-whiz Love WAS cool as fuck tho, i like how they portrayed Beck to be a flawed kindaa bitch but a good person and Love as a great person then flipped it.

@@rheas_ book version Joe: Jigsaw (from the saw series) but in love. Netflix Joe: Prince Charming Gone Wrong
@@issa6892 give me spoilers
I think when he breaks Beck's window trying to get back with her is extremely symbolic of the story. Here he is trying to do something that is typically romantic and what every girl seemingly wants in a romance, but he breaks it unintentionally. That's joe. Everything he's doing is, in theory, romantic. Protecting her from people who hurt her, loyal, attentive, helpful, and encouraging of her career. But his methods of doing it ruins the relationship and that girls life. Candace, Beck, even Love, and soon to be Marienne are all broken as a result of Joe's obsession
Yes yes yes! I swear I just couldn't get it, but you put it perfectly. Anytime I would think of how horrible he is I would come back to "but he objectively did help them in some ways" but you're so right. The way he is doing it, and not to mention the stalking, the lies and harmful obsession, the mf killing you when you don't love him back/ don't love him anymore- it's nowhere near romantic but it is one thing. Scary. Very very very SCARY.
wow you put that very nicely
Awesome analysis! Never saw it like that. Thanks for sharing
This man obviously has a conscience yet....... he behaves like this!
@damian martinez lol well said
He uses a bunch of excuses to justify what he does. Sometimes, he is so close to convincing me too.

@@random_meta this so much, at some point in the first episodes I was like "yeah he killed Benji but Benji was a POS he's weird but kind of cute tho", then you caught yourself thinking like that like wtf you thinking mate this guy is a disgusting sicko.
No, he doesn’t. I think he acts like he does because it fits his narcissistic view of himself as a good person and how he only does bad things to “help.”
By season 3 Joe almost seems normal in comparison to season 1. He’s definitely still messed up but I think he became less impulsive (at least when compared to the absolute mess that is Love)
I see it different. He’s killed less, but you see that his thoughts are more deranged ajd that he’s in denial and thinks he isn’t guilty when he is
So the victims dont deserve justice?...u are a sick person.Just like Joe
I think they trying to redeem his character : either way I’m glad he knows he has mommy issues
I feel like love isn't as messed as joe though. All of her crimes are impulsive, whereas joe's are premeditated. Love kills to protect her family but joe kills because of obsession. Love seems to just have a restraint problem - she kills when she is angry probably cuz her rich parents let her get away with it, but joe is a full on stalker and sociopath
@@thelambsauce1701 killing cause you angry is just as messed up lol, at least the psychopath thinks first lol. In season 2 or 3 he was almost like Batman killing the bad people off. Love doesn’t care she just kills like that. Season 1 I would agree but season 2 and 3 he killed pedophiles or self defense or as the absolute last resort.
I never saw the appeal on Beck. Other than being extremely good looking, she didn't have much else going on. She wasn't really that smart, that interesting, or deep... She was a bland, cliché character, that got things handed to her because of her looks, and she would still complain about life being too hard.
And then it hit me, that's makes her a perfect victim. She was clueless.
Also, his idealized perception of her is nothing like who she actually is which is the point of his obsession. He obsesses over people because of who he is not because of who they are.
*love is a 1000% of a better character than beck ever was*
But… that’s the point. Joe is a play on similar characters who are viewed as romantic, and those characters are usually attracted to the bland cliché good looking protagonist. He seems to create his object of obsession with every chance he gets, because his idea of romantic love comes from literature, not real life. That’s why everything is justified in his head, many book characters who do what he does have the girl swooning over them. Beck was just a basic girl who was a mess, but he didn’t care, because his mind built her up. She was also emotionally vulnerable and he reeeally tapped into that throughout their relationship.
@@connorcoco2152 Thank you! Yeah, just look at Christian Grey; the guy stalks Anastasia left and right, becomes intimately involved in her life before anything happens between them, manipulates her life to suit him, and she ends up head over heels in love with him, because it’s seen as romantic. And there’s nothing special about her, she’s good looking enough for Grey to want her sexually, but bland enough so that the reader can project herself onto her.
That doesn’t matter though, because Grey builds her up in his head, the same way Joe does with Beck. Both Beck and Anastasia are aspiring writers, love literature and if I remember correctly, Christian gifts her a first edition Hardy book (which would cost about $14K), doesn’t Joe do something similar?
I’m positive Kepnes saw those jokes made about how Grey would be seen as a complete creep if he wasn’t rich, and she made a story out of it.
@@connorcoco2152 Well, duh, obviously no one walks around saying “oh I’m such a creep, lol”. Everything has a justification in his own head, and it’s why it’s very easy to root for him to get away with everything.
We see this in real life too, with charming serial killers such as Ted Bundy. We laugh at the girls who found him too hot to be guilty, and how gullible they were, but we see many who do the same for Joe and therefore would likely be those same people back then.
We hate Beck and even people who get in the way (mostly people trying to bring a serial stalker and killer to justice, like Candice or Forty), because of that narrative device, and while Beck does some bad things, they don’t come close to what Joe does.
Him just looking at her thinking to himself saying it’s going great when he’s literally not even listening to her lmfao
that pretty much sums up why her character was portrayed the way it was imo. she was "bland" because he projected his fantasy onto her, he didn't really know who she was
@@alexjulia4870 I agree. Joe is in love with the fantasy in his head more than the actual girl. He had literally no interest in Marienne until she started flirting with him. Not her telling him about her past, but the flirting she was doing towards him. If anything season 3 really shows what Joe’s version of “love” really is. It was kinda dumb imo too that Marienne showed no interest either until she knew he grew up in the system too.

Even then she STILL admits to wanting to break up his Marriage and ruin his kids. Probably because of her own dad and his new family. It SEEMS she was vindictive enough to want to be the reason some other children had to grow up with a distorted view of their dad like she did with hers. It’s AMAZING how complex everyone can be in the show. Like some scenes I feel bad for Joe and then I have to snap myself out because uh, duh, it’s a unreliable narrator we are following around
If anything that just proves how trash Beck was. At least with Love she knew she wasn’t a good person. It was Joe’s rose colored glasses that saw her as that until he found out the truth. The thing I hate about Beck is she was a super boring nympho with no redeeming qualities other than being pretty. I loved how in the new season Joe called her a child. That’s exactly how she acted. She was a selfish spoiled brat who just played around with people just because she had daddy issues. I don’t think she ever loved Joe. She only wanted him back because she saw he was with Karen and gets off on ruining relationships. She even had the nerve to mock Karen afterwards falling her a “bitter ex.” Love was real and honest about who she was while Beck just played the victim for a lot of the problems SHE caused. The people that try to justify Beck’s actions are probably the same people who simp for Alinity. You can do whatever you want and be a terrible person as long as you’re attractive.
@Peko Pekoyama beck was manipulated by her therapist, it is not her fault. there is a reason why there are rules against therapist & client relationships, it’s a power imbalance. so tell me, who did she play with? men used her because she was vulnerable. it honestly just sounds like u dislike women. she’s not complex, sure, but that’s because she represents the everyday person. she wants what she wants, i find it hilarious when ppl critique beck for playing w joe’s feelings when joe literally killed her bf, best friend and HER tf
@@Thatone10 yet that same nympho behavior is excused in men all the time. Not sure how being a selfish nympho trumps murdering and stalking.
I think the truest way to watch You is to think of it as a comedy instead of a crime thriller. Anyways, this is perfect.
3:11 “Do you want him dead?”
“What?”
“😟”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Book Joe: I would never hit a woman
Also Joe: Body slams Peach and hits her with a rock
I died when Joe called Peach a creepy stalker
Edward Cullen as a human
Right !
Even though Beck cheated and was shitty in that aspect, what she got was so undeserved and she was just a broken insecure woman and Joe thrives off that. I think season 1 made me so nervous and upset bc I have been in a position of being manipulated by a man when I was in a very bad place and he knew that and used it to his advantage. (Obviously not to Joe’s extent but throughout the season I saw similarities in behavior and how he talked to Beck).
I’m excited to see season 3 as Love is a mirror of Joe and that isn’t what he wants. He wants a naive easily manipulated insecure woman, and she’s anything but that. Idk how he’s gonna handle it 💀 Ngl I wanna see Joe taken down
just want to affirm your sanity bc some of these comments are horrifying. you are correct, no, we're not supposed to actually blame Beck, yes, he is the deeply disturbing villain from first shot. we're just supposed catch ourselves occasionally being manipulated by him and go 'fuck am i thinking'. Beck was just an average person, and it doesn't matter exactly why she did some shitty little things. that's not why she died. nobody could actually fulfill his needs. only way she coulda survived longterm after meeting him is maybe if she'd fled the city really early on.
the writers tried to make it crystal clear, but the ppl who really want to victim-blame will find a way.
Yeah, its shocking how so many people zoom in on the cheating, meanwhile he also cheated on Karen with her. Not to mention the murdering and stalking. The relationship started on false pretenses because he broke into her home and stole things.
@@mendingwall3823 THANK YOU. Joe is also a cheater but many ppl sympathize with him. As soon as you sympathize with beck, you're "for the streets"
Thanks for this comment , you resorted me 0,000000001% faith in humanity.
Personally, I really liked Joe as an interesting character however *I am absolutely not rooting for him and excusing his actions* !💀
Just as you said , Beck didn’t deserve to be treated like that. She was clearly a vulnerable person who struggled with herself and needed *genuine help* .I felt really very bad that she only attracted bad people just because she was in bad place.I actually wanted her to survive and finally being able standing up for herself.
Read the book she's actually a horrible person. They watered down her maliciousness in the show
5:33 😂😂😂 that part always cracks me up! His line delivery is terrific 💯👏🏻
7:04 *HE MOANED* ✋😭
Ain't no way I got a therapy ad at 7:13 LMFAO
😂😂
Lmao karen dodged a serious bullet, glad he didn’t get obsessed
I just finished season 1 and it creeps me out how charming and attractive his fake persona was... like i could perfectly be like Beck in some situations... the script was awesome and i love the performances of all the actors, penn badgley, can't wait to see S2
Can all the edgelords in the comments stop trying to be like him? It’s embarrassing.
the bathtub scene with joe’s narrations always gets me🤣🤣
It’s PERVERSE
Love was so similar to him he got shooked in the long run 😂😂
he recoiled like beck did when she found out about joe
People complain about beck being thsi unremarkable person and I’m like that’s the point. Even the most mundane person, such as you and I can end up becoming victims of people like beck, kind of clever writing yet scary since it’s showcases how the e whole asking for it counter argument is bull.
Gossip girl stepped over the line and became a psychopath
He was already at the line but then he started kidnapping and killing people
hes not a psychopath bc psychopaths cant have a real relationship. there is always another reason whether its sex, money, or watever but joe falls in love and is obsessive and psychopaths literally can not do that.
He’s a sociopath because psychopaths are born a psychopath. A sociopath is made through trauma. Given his past with his abusive dad and being locked in a cage, he became a sociopath.
Yea psychopath doesn’t fell emotion while killing and joe has a hard time doing that
@@kevin23kg6 sociopaths don’t have a lot of emotion sometimes either.
@@mooonjoooo R You sure sociopaths aren't born as well
@@kshitij99951 no
6:25 sometimes season 1 felt like a true romance.
When he was yelling at Beck for cheating i genuinely was gripping my bed thinking he was about to kill her within the second
Same. But I also felt bad for him
I think what unerves me the most about this show is that some of the audience members actually shipped these two together. poor girl.
Truthfully Joe should only be shipped with Love. They were both psychos so they knew what they were getting into. No normal girl deserves Joe.
@@Thatone10 Yeah I tried to get through the first season but the audience just didn't want to realize that the creators are showing how manipulative he is that he's not a good guy and isn't cute or adorable
6:19 this scene is cut with the perfect scream from Joe breaking her window
Can we talk about how Beck wouldn't of died if Paco didn't say anything about the ceiling in the bathroom.
The fact that most of the comments here hate him really shows how great of an actor he is
3:54 is when I lost it
“Beck….*closes laptop*….you have a stalker”
😭😭😭
Who wants to kill people?
The second second he kills him.
The irony in this show 😂
Sociopaths don’t want to kill people, they will though, to get what they want. Joe has a weird hyper fixation on “love” which, if I had to guess, is derived from his childhood with his pet. I haven’t actually watched the show but that’s what I’ve gleamed from this clip anyways. Alright deuces, imma go beat my wife ✌🏿
@@jillbill7752 BIIIIIGGG generalization saying Sociopaths “will kill people” A LARGE majority of mentally ill people aren’t dangerous at all which is why I’m assuming the creator haven’t place a specific disorder onto Joes character as to not add to the negative stigma of mental illness
@@tamaraa2878 you’re acting like the fact that they’ve avoided circumstances in which they would kill people makes them harmless lol
@@jillbill7752 they're trying at least despite their mental issues.
@@naadilee1316 a weak man is not a moral one. He is merely weak. Only the strong are capable of genuine morality. It’s the same for sociopaths. Simply because they have not been put in a situation where it would benefit them to kill someone doesn’t mean they wouldn’t or that they’re “trying” lol.
Edited this soo well wow great job.
this show is so well written
His internal monologue is so satisfying to listen to, creepy but satisfying
“Beck...you’ve got a stalker.”
??????
Came here after watching S3. Kind of almost forgot what happened in 1 and 2. Freaking love this show
the whole episode with joe in peach's house was so crazy-
Like yeah Joe is messed up and sick but Penn Badgely is hot- 👀
The thing about him is that he think he's right in what he's doing. He think he's doing nothing wrong. 😅
i find the way joe thinks very interesting. its strange and different.
