I think in the beta version of the game where arthur and hosea rob a house you could also threaten the kid but it was cut because that wouldn't be what arthur would do.

It didnt make sense with his character at that point. First, his son was intended to die in the cold fo the first chapter, so it would make sense for him to be this ruthless, since he doesn't want that to happen again. But then they changed it to his son being killed by robbers. There's no way in hell current Arthur would do this under any circumstance, so they had to cut it to keep the story coherent.
The way he swings the knife out before covering the kid’s mouth really shows that he’s done this before so many times it’s almost choreographed in his head.

I honestly wish this was kept in, “Arthur” always says throughout the WHOLE game that he’s a VERY bad man that doesn’t deserve “Redemption”. THIS scene woulda been great for the players to play. Woulda definitely made “Arthur” more Morally fucked.

I want a RDR 2 novelization with cut story beats like this included. Scenes like this help enforce the fact that Arthur is a hardened Outlaw. You get that in game in few scenes or if you play as a cartoonishly evil mad dishonor Arthur; Neutral or High honor Arthur kind of feels like he just hangs out with group of outlaws instead of being a founding member. Plus it would explain what RDR 1 characters were up to like Seth and Landon Rickets
