Finally a review for a trustful source! I was looking of seeing the elusive and exclusive Skydio in a review made by someone that knows his stuff! Great work Dustin.
I'm curious I know the skydio is not meant to fly at night time.
But I wonder if he can take it straight up for example couple hundred feet and look at the city lights or whatever lights are below ?
Do you know if this is possible ?
I don't mean to track or follow just to take it straight up.
And bring it straight back down after 5 or 10 minutes.
or do you think the drone will get confused ?

Yes keith. You can use beacon only for control. Cannot fly at night. It will not launch if light is too low 🍻

I follow this guy mainly for his quadcopter reviews, and I've read a lot of comments about his video's being too long, but when you consider that there's not much fat in them it's pretty much all beef. A lot of vloggers will repeat what is already known by the quad owner ie the specification's of whatever model he or she is reviewing, for my part I think you're doing a great job and I hope you carry on doing it.

I love flying the Skydio 2 with the controller. And great testing, I learned a lot from this video, especially how to use some of the intelligent flight modes. Thanks for another interesting review - you’re my go-to drone reviewer. I like the relaxed and intelligent style, the beautiful scenery and how you go into detail and are relatively thorough. And also it’s important that you enjoy what you are doing. (Your reviews are one of the reasons I finally pulled the trigger and got a Mavic mini, and am very happy with it).
I have a Skydio 2 on order but they having manufacturing delays for obvious reasons. Ah well - more time to decide between it and a Mavic 2 Zoom or Pro. :) Take Care Bro!

@@rotz357 Definitely does. Harder to tarcknon my planes but that's my fault as high speed climbs and dives and other 3D maneuvers are hard for the drone to tacks. If you're doing it on your truck like I've been doing with my X-Maxx take the 8-foot deck off so you can get nice and low to the ground. The only issue I've had is the flying debris getting kicked up from my X-Maxx hitting the drone (no damage). but kicking up a nice little dust cloud and having the Skydio rip right through it makes for an epic shot! 👍

Just out of curiosity, would you do a vortex in close proximity to obstacles with a Mavic Pro? Can you even do intelligent actions beyond follow modes with the beacon?

Thanks for the Jacaranda trees blooming. They are so beautiful. There was a red circle with a white X during the landing when you had no control. I wonder if you could have pressed the circle to cancel the landing attempt and resume control. Missing Maui. Jess
Finally... a piece of hardware (the software in it actually), I find impressive.
I only fly for the fun of flying... then 4G disco+bebop2 power are the bests for me, but if someday I feel the need of a flying action camera, I am now convinced this is the one I would buy.
Great Video Dustin, I have the Skydio and really love this drone, the video and pictures are the best. How to stop the auto recording, I found you have to touch the A REC button on the phone, then it will switch to M manual. Then I believe I had to touch the auto record button and it finally stopped recording. Then you can switch between video and camera. I found that when you are editing the video on you computer you can capture a frame as a photo and so far for me it has really been very, very good. So then you can pick and choose what angle of the photo you want. I have not had much of a change to fly the Skydio to much since I received, although yesterday I got some really nice footage flying a few feet over going up a mountain stream. Love this drone...

Hey Dustin! What brand mobile phone were you using in this controller review?
I really hope skydio invests in themselves and builds a pro controller. I’ve had to mod mine quite a bit to make it more secure and ergonomic. With being able to get beacons right now, I’m having to use it more and it’s pretty rough.
I wonder if you could tell me because I don't know anything about the sky deal.
Can you fly the sky deal with the beacon only ?
No phone no controller just the beacon ?

Don't worry Dustin, range test will be pretty short :( WiFi on the phone should be disabled when using the controller. 22:59 Pre-cashing maps also doesn't work so :(

Great video Dustin. Just out of curiosity- do you think the issues with the tracking during could be from the sunset? The more I read about the Skydio, the more warnings I see about low light performance.
Maybe a little but I think the visual AI also has a limited distance 🍻
The tracking and obstacle avoidance looks pretty amazing. I really wish the Mavic Mini had some obstacle avoidance. Actually crashed mine into a tree during a quick shot and it dropped 40ft onto a dirt road. Amazingly it survived with only minor damage. Thank goodness for that! :-) Hopefully Mavic releases a Mini 2 at some point with obstacle avoidance and maybe active tracking as well. Really enjoying my first drone regardless. Thanks for convincing me to get it!

Great Vid ! I read somewhere that this Skydio will not take off at low light for Sunset / Sunrise photos.. I saw you had a sunset but it wasnt dark... Can you try to fly it at dusk and see if it will start up and report back here ! Thank you ! ******** STAY SAFE ********

the tracking is amazing. the website says it has a tegra x2 soc for tracking, that is a pretty powerful chipset a baby version of the gpus tesla uses for autopilot

did you test its max range? skydio said its 3.5km but other yt videos test it didnt reach even 2-3km

u must try moving the left stick up down then up again to launch
Mine takes off with the controller button. However, it is slightly recessed and you have to use the the side of my fingernail. I think it’s a safety feature to in inadvertently be pressed.

I'm a little confused. You purposely tried to create a tornado pattern that put it into the trees. It totally avoided crashing and returned home, but that was a fail? I'm unable to come with a better outcome. Being forced to do something that's possible or being unable to do something that isn't possible doesn't seem like much of a constraint. I'm mean if you tell to fly 100' in the direction of a tree that 50' away, isn't it great that it doesn't do it? What am I missing?

Hi Dustin,
You mention that on say a Dronie, you are in the bottom centerish part of the shot. I've watched a lot of vids on this drone and they're all the same. I don't think it's a mistake on Skydios behalf, I think they have possibly don't this on purpose. If it was to back off and keep you in the center, you would most likley loose a lot of whats around you...in the background. I kinda like this type of Dronie. It does keep you in the picture (the whole point) but also shows off your scenic surroundings. Otherwise your Dronies would only show you againt whatever ground surface your standing on. I think Skydios Dronie is more dramatic and scenic. JMHO : )
Looks like a good drone, especially for maybe search and rescue ppl, with it's amazing avoidance systems. I like it!
Good point. I always think of a dronie from a cliff side and might want to see more cliff for reference. I guess they can't please everyone unless there was a "dronie screen position option" 😂🍻
@@DustinDunnill yes, all the simple settings such as, speed, angle, distance and direction would be awesome. Gotta wonder who is designing this software and what they're thinking. I can't seem to slow my Mavic Mini down on a Circle shot, and it drives me nuts... How hard could it have been to write that into the program. Which would be really useful when I'm say, doing a circle around a vehicle to show it off... I could slow it right down. The Mini does do a better circle than my Air in this scenario tho. Just too fast. I can't seem to get the air to do a complete circle around a vehicle or anything. Seems to stop about 7/8s around.

Would this drone become obsolete when RID rules take effect? Would the Mavic mini still be considered Ok in non designated areas even without RID because it is under 250g?
RID rules will not go into effect for years.

I'd probably recommend the Mavic Mini for a first smart drone. But this is better at tracking and avoidance than any DJI drone so far if you needed a sports drone 🍻

Not sure what you expect the S2 to do when you give it a pre-determined flight path (i,e tornado) and then purposefully put things in its flight path. They do however need to work on preventing pilots from flying too far into battery life and losing a RTH capability.

Dustin, I am buying SKYDIO 2 over Mavic air 2. What is your final thought? I am kind of liking SKYDIO. Also, please if you can, try to fly SKYDIO at night time although it cannot fly. We want to know

TheHelicapt I think, if you are in the budget or economically thinking, Then I would recommend Mavic Mini along side with SkyDio.
Years on most of the camera drone have that rubberband stop and course correction spongy move. LOL! DJI naza on a flamewheel was so much better LOL!
The tracking is disappointingly misaligned most of the time, off-center to the left. What's going on there?
I dont think it's bad that it says it loses subject so long as the subject is still shown and it completes the task cuz then it's like it didnt really lose it
