Thing about George if you listen to his recording and then a live version of the same song it is remarkably similar. He doesn’t use flashing lights, run around the stage or much but just stand there and sing. He is that good he doesn’t have to.

I seen King George in 1987 in Florida. And many times afterlives. He sounds the same live and record. Great country voice.

George Strait doesn't perform as much anymore, but when he does, his concerts are sold out. Front row seats are $1200 apiece. That gives an idea of how awesome he is. My favorite he does is "cross my heart".

Meaning of the lyrics in the second verse: they took my saddle in Houston, broke my leg in San Antone means they made him ride bareback (by "taking" his saddle) then at his next stop he broke his leg probably because riding bareback is alot more dangerous
This song is about cowboys and rodeo. You have to stay on the bull for 8 seconds. He is also naming all the towns that do Rodeo.

Great video. George Strait has certainly helped country music to become what it is now. For groups ; Alabama is probably George's counterpart. Randy Travis for sure. You can probably choose from most country act's from the 80's and 90's for sure and later. Cosider listening to the " Old " school country from the 40's to 70's to get a wider knowledge for country music as a whole genre.
I'm not a big country song guy,but this song is just so haunting and beautiful. For a education in country music watch Ken Burns documentary made for Public Broadcasting System herein the US.

Amarillo is a northern city in the state of Texas about 8 hours away from my birth city of El Paso Texas
Another good way to choose who to listen to ; is pick a theme you may want to hear. Like if you want to hear a song about being inspired ; may want to choose , Angels Among Us by Alabama or The RIver by Garth Brooks.
If you do take a dive into country, start with the classics. Willie nelson, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash to name just a few.

one thing with King George is his music sounds the same live as it is on the album. I've seen him in concert 3 times and loved everyone of them. And it was like i popped on the cd to listen to. One of my favorites of his is the song "the chair"

When u say all country sounds tje same your listening to today's count which really is not country. Its hip-hop with twangy voice. Imo its garbage.
