King George, 60 #1 hits. That's not a typo. He's had 60 #1 hits in his career. A really good man. He eloped with his high school sweetheart, Norma in 1971 and are still married. He used to compete as a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) team roping competitor.

Wow, 60! No wonder they call him the King. And a real cowboy. We definitely have to do more George. Thank you for the info.

George Strait has always been the same with the music he records and sings. No jumping around or dancing. He just sings a story and lets the music and songs speak for themselves. If you are going to do more George Strait stuff, I recommend you just start at the beginning and work your way through to today. It will help you to gain an appreciation for his work and make you realize just how long he has been doing this.

His movie "Pure Country" is just that - pure country and purely fantastic. The soundtrack is amazing. I saw him in concert years ago and I was most impressed with the way he did the show - the stage was in the middle of the room with seats on all sides...he had a microphone set up on each of the 4 sides of the stage and would rotate with each song so that nobody had to look at his back for the whole show. And he simply stood there with his guitar and sang - no big flashy extravaganza, just quality music.

My favorite Randy Travis songs are Reasons I Cheat; Promises; Take Another Swing At Me; This is Me; Look Heart, No Hands; Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man; That’s Where I Draw the Line; I Told You So; The Box; He Walked On Water; Three Wooden Crosses; Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart; It’s Just a Matter of Time; On the Other Hand; and Forever and Ever Amen.

That's funny that you had never heard of George Strait! Yes, he has been considered the "King of Country" for years and years! (And most women love his looks!) But he is not a fancy performer. He's truly country and just sings! I see you did this reaction a year ago. He has retired now, but we still hear about him from time to time. He said a good country song is one people can dance to! Starting out at the dance halls in Texas, his songs always had a rhythm people could two-step and waltz to! He has lots of great songs!! I'm sure you've heard a lot more over the past year!

He has more #1 hits than any artist of any genre, and he stayed true country when pop country hit its heydey. He has stayed married to his high school sweatheart even through the death of their 13 year old daughter and is basically a down to earth, good guy.

George is from Texas, and refused to conform to the Nashville sound. Damn near everything he does, is to a two step beat. He is western, through and through. This song was his first big hit, in the early 1980’s. Every year he performs as part of the Texas state fair, to crowds of over 100k fans. He does still make music, but his days of heavy touring are behind him. As mentioned before, he has over 60 number one hits. I love everything he does.

This was probably in the last 5 years or so. Not sure. But he has been around sense the early 80s. And another to suggest is Chris Ladeaux. That's pronounced like La duuu. A few titles are, This Old Hat, Hooked On An 8 Second Ride and Cadillac Ranch. He was, rest his soul, very much a Cowboy. A true bronc busting Cowboy. But what a showman. A rocker at heaty. A lot of what Garth Brooks has done on stage, running, swinging from ropes, the big lights and pyrotechnics he got from Chris. Check him out.

In the "old" days, it was called Country and Western music. Now they just call it Country. George Straight sang more along the lines of "Western" music than "Country". Sample the group "Sons of the Pioneers" and you'll immediately get the difference, they were straight Western. I'd put George at about 60/40 Western/Country.

Bucking for 8 means the 8 seconds you are required to stay in the saddle. He hopes that judge ain’t blind. The judge awards style points for the ride. If you are lucky enough to draw a good horse that likes to buck and you ride him smoothly, you have a good chance to win. If you can stay on for 8 seconds.

He is semi retired after three decades on top along with Garth Brooks and Allen Jackson there are in this new crop of singers country to keep up with thru are sounding more pop rock and rap.
