King George may sound like he is a player in a lot of his songs but he eloped with his high school sweetheart, Norma, in 1971 and is still married to her. At the end of this year they will actually have been married for 50 yrs!

Two of my favorites.
This whole song is about a rodeo cowboy traveling the circuit during the summer. They go from one rodeo to the next rodeo. Sometimes they make money sometimes they don't. Some drive in a pick up with a camper. Some get rides or hitch hike from place to place. You can ride or rope 5 or to 6 days a week during the summer.
George is from San Antonio & yes, he's a legit cowboy. Look up his roping videos and you'll see him in action.
Story is about a rodeo rider. He does the rodeo circuit. Amarillo is his next stop.
George was from ranch in Pearsall,Tx outside San Antonio. He now lives in San Antonio.. The follow up song Headed to Cheyenne

People don't realize that driving from San Antonio to Amarillo is a 7.5 to 8 HR drive. Texas is big! The song about the grind of the cowboy circuit.

My grandpa has trophies in the Prescott rodeo museum. he used to watch the prca on the weekends when he was old and laugh "ohh.. those poor young idiots"

This is a cowboy song. It's not about George Strait, but about real cowboys that compete in rodeos. It was written in the 70s.

Because he was married, got a divorce, then had a girlfriend neither one could handle the rodeo and the injuries that can cripple a cowboy. It isnt always about cheating the way young kids do today.
