Do you ever have salmon hit the squid and miss fish? Would snelling a hook instead of bead be a good idea? Do you ever run a dummy flasher or umbrella rig to attract fish? I love your videos and how you teach and explain what you are doing.

Hi Andy, You bring up some good points! There have been times when I have thought that the King hit the flasher or dodger that I was trolling. I don't know if Kings have tried to hit the squids that are in-line? My guess is that it doesn't happen very often? Most underwater footage that I have ever viewed shows Kings locating from the rear when they pursue....... Plus, the meat head is set further back so I think it promotes the CHASE on the bait that is trying to catch up? Also: the bait head is natural with the scent of the herring or ballyhoo strip so I believe its a bit more inviting. Snelling hooks withing the TWINKIE could result in some nasty netting procedures! lol I am surprised you mentioned UMBRELLAS because we will probably be messing with that a little this season. We mentioned the ROTATOR in this video and it worked incredibly well. I need to gather more footage of that in process! I used it on some days when the bite was very flat and it accounted for some Big Kings and Lakers that we would not have taken otherwise........ Consequently, anything like that or an UMBRELLA certainly could benefit in attracting all types of fish into the pattern.

Thanks for the response. Can you do a video or videos on boat set ups and rod reel set ups. I am interested in buying some rods and getting set up to fish for salmon. Just got boat for Erie and will be doing a lot of walleye but will come back to NY to fish. What line and weight do you use? Even looking at a charter 2 summers from now when we do a family trip to new england. Can we take 6 people out?

What is the distance from diver to flasher on the Twinkies?
