Thanks for the video! I’m new to espresso and I’m finding your dial in process really useful for my own workflow. It’s something I don’t see other channels doing so thank you.

Lovely! This setup feels so much more intimate than before, like we are in your kitchen together. Momo's meows definitely add to the authenticity hahaha

I was surprised when I saw the hair hand grinder come out, well done on dialing it in so well.

Welcome back David ! Happy to see you.
Well, the Hario performed better than I thought, I didn't imagine that it would make a good shot of espresso, but I'm happy it did.
I think that you should WDT the grounds to break up any clumps, it will help you get more consistent shots.
    Cheers :D

I use a dosing cup myself and weigh the beans in, out, and even weigh the prepped portafilter before it goes in. I have a ceramic Vario as well, did the flapper mod so my retention is almost none but sometimes it can hold 0.1-0.2g.

E65S best grinder easy to use quick and quiet it has higher extraction and sweet taste all metal fits under counter with short hopper. most grinders are all plastic? buy cheap get cheap. you get what you pay for. buy the best make the best coffee wheelchair larry

FWIW, these grind settings seem to be consistent. Meaning, I had very similar results-- one notch coarser than touching was too fine, two notches coarser than I’d like and I had to back off on pressure/flow. I will not continue with this grinder much more but it is nice to know there is a setting which is at least “serviceable” for espresso. I am on a Cafelat Robot so I can play a lot with dose and flow.

Some of the newer (and more expensive) hand grinders seem to be better, but I was so glad I could use this one for a few months while I saved up for something more substantial.

hey, first of thanks for this video and covering this specific subject (making espresso with hand grinder)
currently i bought my self an espresso machine but now i can't really afford a grinder machine..
so i was considering buying the exact hand grinder for my morning shots but rn i found myself in a dilemma that whether I should go and buy this hand grinder and use it for espresso or buy grinned coffee beans from cafe and use..
any idea of which one is better?

I would try to find a hand grinder with stainless steel burrs that’s affordable. Some good options from Timemore and Normcore, picked up the Normcore NW101 for traveling and it gets the job done pretty well and a huge upgrade from the Hario. But if the Hario is easier to find it will work! Fresh ground is super important with espresso for crema, pre ground will be very very thin by comparison.

Thanks for the video David!!!. I have a Delonghi dedica. And a Hario ceramic mill exactly the one you have. Between how many notches you recommend a nice balanced expresso ¿ 2 or 3 or 4?

      @DavidLikesCoffee  Před rokem

Probably 2 or 3, whatever gets you the volume you want around 25-30 seconds is usually a good place to start.

@@DavidLikesCoffee This is a wild question, did you maybe try to mix two different grinds? For example, you grind 10g on 3 and then 7-8g on 2?

Até you using the standard portafilter that came with the dedica or have you upgraded to a bottomless?

I bought the Hario Skerton hand grinder. I didn't really like it. It was bulky & was not fun to use, especially when grinding 40g of coffee for a cold brew. There are better grinders out there, like the Comandante.

I’ve had this for a while but the last trip I took I put my Baratza Vario in a box and just took that with me 😂 definitely better hand grind options out there now a days

His lack of experience with the Hario and lack of enthusiasm turned me off.
