This is the first of multiple lore videos for the upcoming CD Projekt Red's game Cyberpunk 2077.In this video we discussed about the history and the society of the Night City. If you like the video please consider to give it a "thumbs up".

also did we ever have an explanation as to why fashion took such a sharp turn? short pink mohawk woman yknow ... yeah where is all this punk fashion influence coming from in most cyberpunk things?

I think more accurate term would be corporate imperialism. It shows how bad capitalism can become if we are not careful. The only similarity with communism and a cyberpunk dystopia is that both are authoritarian. In communism, the state owns you whereas in this, the corporations own you. And still I'd say communist dystopia is even more oppressive.
As for your earlier part of the comment, no it doesn't take any inspiration from Deus Ex. Cyberpunk 2020 came out in the 80s, long before the original Deus Ex. In fact, the creator of Cyberpunk 2020, Mike Pondsmith has criticized Deus Ex for focusing too much on saving the world. So expect a very personalized narrative experience in Cyberpunk 2077.
The original pen and paper RPG takes a lot of inspiration from Blade Runner, novels from William Gibson, Phillip K. Dick, etc. CDPR are also taking a lot of inspiration from films like Ghost in The Shell, Akira, 2001: A Space Odyssey, etc.
