Cowboy Bebop is a great show, but calling it cyberpunk is a huge stretch.
You know that Medieval torture machine that would tie the feet of some dude to the ground and the wrists to a wheel, and they would spin the wheel until the bones separated? that's equally as much of a stretch as calling cowboy bebop cyberpunk.

Cowboy Bebop is a Sci-Fi Western... It has small amounts of cyberpunk lol the genre is definitely Sci-Fi Western and not cyberpunk

Ergo Proxy and Technolyze are both so criminally underrated. Anime fans need to experience both of them at least once, and they will be back over and over again.
Ergo Proxy was confusing as hell, but loved the artwork.

GrandmasterDevo AFAIK, battle angel alita exists only as a manga. AFAIK, there's not much more than maybe 3 anime episodes.
Two. There was an OVA released way back in 1993.
GrandmasterDevo my point stands. The vast majority of baa content exists only in print. The two that were made don't show much more than basic character introductions.
Also the movie is coming out this year and there was a video game built on it called Gunnm : Martian Memory. Also it's considered cyberpunk so BAA needs that recognition.

Bubblegum 2040, Lain, Akira & Ghost have been huge influences of mine. Great anime.
Ghost in the Shell is in the anime as Blade Runner is in the movies, Psicko Pass is also beautiful and Akira is a small masterpiece of the Cyberpunk genre my favorite ✌✌✌

Cybercity Odeo 808 should be on the list. It's one of the most Underrated and best Cyberpunk anime unravelling inspiring scientific concepts. The artwork of that time is just a masterpiece.

Cowboy Bebop has just some bit of Cyberpunk elements so I wouldn't put it on this list but it's a Sci-Fi Classic anyway

I still haven't seen Bubblegum Crisis, Blame! Serial Experiments Lain, Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell *yes I don't watch much sci-fyi, but I'm getting there*
Start with GitS 1995 movie, than move to the series. Akira's manga is so much better.
Bubblegum Crisis is more mecha/space (but still awesome).
Read the Blame! manga, there is little story but the atmosphere and tone make for a very compelling feel. Anime butchers that.
Serial Experiment Lain, Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze are the last levels. Complex, obtrusive, yet very thought provoking.
That's the plan with the GitS series, since the movie made a name for itself in the west. Thou I heard from fans that the movie doesn't follow Stand Alone Complex so they disregard it, but I'm still giving it a chance.

GitS is more about philosophy and that emotion of finding your humanity in your "Shell" , as opposed to a storyline, although the series is more geared towards the latter.
The manga, on the other hand, is quite light hearted and funny.
Ahh I see, however the movie and series would still be great despite what canon is thou I heard the second movie was different thou.
I heard the manga was very different then the anime and movies thou I haven't read it either.
I got hooked on Bubble Gum Crisis and the music was one of the best things about the original. Konya Wa Hurricane is one of the best songs from the series and the 2-disk soundtrack.
GITS is simply amazing. All of it... not the latest live action movie, but the rest is just amazing
a list I can agree on glad ghost in the shell is number one one of the greatest masterpieces ever not sure if cowboy bebop should be ranked so high on this list tho it's mainly sci-fi western but there's a lot of cyberpunk elements too it aswell as 50 other genres xD I would have liked to see battle angel alita and armitage III as well and metropolis

Always surprised it never gets adapted while unfinished berserk get it's 4th or 5th re adaptation. I do love berserk too

In truth. I like old anime dubs. The bad voice acting sort of gives it charm. During the anime boom in the late 80s through the 90s it was treated like a trend rather than a main stay.

So how is pyscho pass s2? I watched s1 and it became my favourite anime but I heard that s2 isn't that good so just asking is it worth watching?
Eshan karnik still good but for me, I can't connect with the characters somehow. But the story is still awesome. Give it a try you might like it.
It's decent, but doesn't really hold a candle to season 1. I was quite disappointed to be honest, but not a awful watch.
Avoid it like the plague. It's nothing but a rehash of the original with nothing new to add to the table in my honest opinion.

Watched all 3 seasons, but I can really recommend just first season. And Yes, season 1 was masterpiece. Watching it for the first time was like reading 1984 for the first time. Ghost in the shell Stand alone complex is great show too, but probably less dystopian and more sci-fi.

is there a problem with GITS over Akira? the 1995 movie alone is comparable, with stand alone complex, innocence, solid state society and the "new movie", GITS trumps Akira with no problem at all.

I realize this video is five years old, so Blade Runner: Black Lotus being absent is easily understandable. I also would have added Armitage III to this list, as well as Angel Cop and Genocyber. But having Ghost in the Shell as #1 and Akira as #2 is exactly as I would have put them. Two of the all time greatest anime, let alone cyberpunk anime. And I had to applaud when I saw Ergo Proxy get a mention. After watching that one, it was an instant Blu-Ray purchase.

Its funny for me that Appleseed is first one mentioned because it was the one that got me interested in Cyberpunk genre,it is not good as other ones on this list but i would recommend it non the less. Good list overall .
I've got nothing to complain about with this list, it seems to be rather fair, I do know a fair bit of the list, and can more or less agree with their placement. So it gets a + from me, and I do hope that this leads to more lists that seem to be accurate. All in all, good list, and go watch the entries on it if you haven't yet done so. Though a particular order may help those who aren't used to the genre, I'd say stuff like Psycho Pass, Cowboy Bebop, and Ghost in the Shell are fairly easy to get started on, Serial Experiments Lain and Akira can be rough for some people, I can go into the rest, but most of the rest I've not actually seen much of so I'll withhold further commentary.
The"Outlaw Star" is a good series fom 1998. If you like future, mechs, tech, robots/androids, space pirates, gun fights, adventure, comedy, action, drama.

Akira is a movie, not a Anime Show
The original “Bubblegum Crisis series”, back in the late 80’s. Even though it is more of a music video. Priss ( one of the main character) is the main guitars/ vocalist too. There is the spin-off called Ad Police. Which follows a character Leon who is tracking and killing human disguised boomers ( killer androids). M-66 military weapons after scientist daughter.
I like Cowboy Bebop the anime is mostly neo-noir and space western. I do agree it is mixture of genres: drama, comedy, action, adventure, space opera, utopia/dystopia.

Several of these aren't even Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk is Low Society, High Technology with a focus on fighting conspiracies of big corporations/government entities via unconventional methods.
