    This doctor has a lot of good videos and I watch him quite often. I have hearing loss since me and my motorcycle and a very large tree got into an altercation and I loss. Since then I have had tinnitus that’s always at the same level and same sound which is hard to describe. I guess I say I’m lucky in the fact that it’s there but I don’t mind it or pay it much attention to it. I only think about it or hear it when someone brings it up or I run into a video about it. As soon as I get off this video my acknowledgment of it will go away, sorta strange because it’s loud. For you folks that deal with it and it bothers you please take this doctors advice and good luck. You defeat it don’t let it defeat you, you are in control of your life and not some crazy noise. I just ignore it.

    tire exploded in my right ear when I was 25. constant ringing in my right ear ever since . I was mad at first. I searched for a cure. My local doctor gave me some type of shot in my ear drum. He did this three times. one every week. I still have the ringing in my ear, but I've grown to love the sound. It helps me think. reminds me that I'm alive. I can feel. I can hear. Ambient noise requires my use of headphones. That blast of sound to begin, makes me tear off the phones to adjust the volume down. Then when at a reasonable conversational level, I adjust again. I would assume an AuD to have realized this. That being out of the way...

To the point I frequently do not hear the first few words anyone is saying to me. As soon as I focus on the conversation I am fine but it drives my wife crazy in having to frequently having to restate the words. I believe my hearing is normal but the sound is like a wetlands filled with cicadas. To sleep I play a natural sound effects app of frogs, crickets and night birds. since the severity of my tinnitus varies day to day, i've tried to keep a quasi-rigorous log of what i eat to see if i can discern any correlations. i believe i've found one that holds up to repeated verification, at least for me. if i eat one cup of FRESH blueberries early in the day before any meals, it appears to significantly lessen the severity of the ringing in my ears for the whole day. blueberries ARE loaded with antioxidants, and no doubt many other things of which science is yet unaware. i don't know if it will work for anyone else, but I'm throwing it out there. if you try it, you can post your observations here, pro or con. not all tinnitus is the same, so it WON'T work for all.

    Thanks for the advice (app) is just what I was looking for after seeing and hearing so many others who just want you to go to their study, she is generous with advice instead. I have been suffering from tinnitus for a year, a 10,000 herz frequency , a pressure cooker, with minimal hearing loss. Maybe the cause is a breakdown that I don't understand. At first I seemed crazy, the noise was madness. I haven't slept for at least a week, then I took sleeping pills and slept 2 hours. Then I had to take medicine because I was depressed but I stopped as soon as it was better. Now after a year I can sleep and I do not show my suffering to others but I always have this bad friend inside my head. I work on the PC and I feel it a lot, if I was driving a truck I felt it less. I am 57 years old and my life is that of an invalid. Thanks for the app, it will help me a lot I think.
    Vincenzo from south Italy (Calabria).
    Grazie per il consiglio (app) è proprio quello che cercavo, dopo aver visto e sentito tanti altri che vogliono solo che vai nel loro studio, lei è invece generoso di consigli. Sono da un anno che soffro di acufeni, una frequenza 10.000 herz come una pentola a pressione, con minima perdita di udito . Forse la causa e' un esaurimento che non ho capito. I primi tempi sembravo pazzo, il rumore era una follia. Non ho dormito per almeno una settimana, poi ho preso sonniferi e dormivo 2 ore. Poi ho dovuto prendere medicine perchè depresso ma ho smesso appena andava meglio. Adesso dopo un anno riesco a dormire e non dimostro agli altri la mia sofferenza ma ho sempre questo cattivo amico dentro la mia testa. Lavoro al pc e lo sento molto, se guidavo un camion lo sentivo di meno. Ho 57 anni e la mia vita è quella di un invalido. Grazie per l'app, mi aiuterà molto credo.

    i've had tinnitus since 2012, it started alongside TMJ. I was wondering if you know if this is common or not? After things I am thinking that both my TMJ and tinnitus are just caused by stress. I have noticed it get higher pitched and lower pitched at various times in the month. Thanks for making this video, keep it up!

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  Před 6 lety +1

      It is relatively common for tinnitus to coincide with TMJ dysfunction. As you indicated, this is likely due to increased stress associated from the TMJ. If you haven't had your hearing tested by an Audiologist yet, I suggest you do. Sometimes, ear related issues disguise themselves as TMJ problems due to referred pain.

    • @margarethutchison3335
      @margarethutchison3335 Před 5 lety +1

      Tinnitus May have a somatic component; any thoughtful Audiological work-up should include looking at other possible reasons (beside hearing loss) for the Tinnitus. TMJ, prescription and over the counter drugs, can affect Tinnitus.
      This video may be superficial in its treatment. ReSound’s app, Widex Zen, and notch therapy in Siemens/Signia, are not mentioned.
      When in doubt, look for an ABA board-certified Audiologist with a specialty in Tinnitus.

It was so loud that he couldn’t hear the person next to him talking. It drove him absolutely insane and caused anxiety and panic attacks. He became sleep deprived as it kept him up all night and couldn’t function the next day. His ears have been ringing for 10 years straight and he’s forgotten what peace and quiet is like. As his son, I feel so bad for him and I really wish I can find a cure or effective treatment for him. This looks very good. He’s a great, loving person and doesn’t deserve to be tormented like this. Tinnitus can have multiple causes and can be effected by a number of things in addition to the causes.
      The possible cause and or additional effect in your experience was probably due to TMJ tension. Problems with the alignment of the temporal mandible joint can cause tinnitus and this type of tinnitus can actually be cured via orthodontics realigning the joint to remove the pain and stress associated. The other causes are stress drug reactions injuries hearing lose and tumours to name a few. I have heard of an effective treatment where sound is used in a therapeutic massage of the fillia in the ear that can reduce or temporarily numb the tinnitus.

      Have you tried regular music earbuds? A set of wireless buds paired to a masking app on your phone would spare your spouse and should be able to follow you around the house (assuming you don't live in some sprawling mansion, or use an outhouse). Volume shouldn't be an issue if they are jammed (gently) directly into your ear canals.

    My question is how long should I wear hearing add to shut down the system ? And Why should I have to wear hearing aids where I’m not suffering from any miss communication in my daily life and I feel like I can hear everything normally

    I have sensory neural high/low frequency hearing loss in the inner ear in both ears,, caused from an illness at birth. I have had tinnitus in my left ear which is completely deaf since I was about 9.
    Is it common to have the feeling that the ear is full of cotton in the ear with tinnitus? Also sometimes my tinnitus will get so loud in my deaf ear that it blocks out other sounds.
    I've grown used to my tinnitus but sometimes when it gets loud it is annoying :)

    Try this when your tinnitus is really bugging you: Cover your ears with your palms, interlacing your fingers behind your head. Now thump the back of your head with your fingers, sliding one first finger off the other with pressure, to make the thump harder. Do that for 10 seconds. This will not make the ringing go away, but it will take the edge off for long enough to forget about it and go about your day. Repeat as needed.

    I have had tinnitus for years. Then, about 7yrs ago, I developed 'MUSICAL (AUDIO) HALLUCINATIONS ' too. Over a short period, I began hearing (?) Complete orchestration, opera, bagpipes and piano and violen duels. It was really great during quite times. Now, it has been reduced by about 90% with musical repetitive notes. I do miss the old music.
    No one could explain why this occurred. Can you?

My soon to be replaced hearing aids no longer always stop it, and I know it's the fault of the HAs, because if I turn them down the ringing/his goes away.

    AFAIK, I've had tinnitus for 60 years. I"m so habituated, that I don't notice it. It is not annoying. I hear it when I think about it, but I associate it with the pleasant sound of crickets and insects at night.
    But I thought that the tinnitus was the cause of my poor hearing, or at least an aggravating factor. But your video says that it is a symptom of hearing loss; just the opposite. Is that the correct interpretation?

    I am 51 and have mild Tinnitus and I know I have mild hearing loss, but my ENT says it’s probably due to middle age hearing loss. I also have a birth defect in my eustachian tube, so I have bern prone to middle ear infections all my life as a result. I’m not sure if my ENT is right about the cause of my earring loss, in part due to my life-long history of chronic ear infections. I’ve dealt with temporary hearing loss throughout my life, twice requiring tubes, so I have learned to lipread as a result. I have also experienced varying degrees of tinnitus throughout my life that has come and gone. Only recently has it stayed, but it is at such a low level that I can, fortunately, drown it out with background noises such as the television or music.
    It is annoying when I hear the tinnitus, but at the same time, I’m used to having it throughout my life, so it’s just a minor annoyance to me. One thing I have noticed, due to my history of hearing issues since I was baby, that I seem to tolerate the annoyances of hearing loss better than those who suffer hearing loss in their later years, such as my father.

    I just went yesterday to the ENT. I got a hearing test done. He said that my hearing had slightly changed since 2018. He didn’t say anything or ask anything about the pitch of my tinnitis. I have an appointment still set up for the 9th of this month with my originally planned appointment. I just took another appointment at a different location so I could be seen sooner. I’m going to ask more questions because the other doctor didn’t seem to interested in finding out anything. He basically said yes it’s tinnitis and sent me on my way. Said I could do therapy but didn’t give me any information about anything. I won’t see him again.
