I have the original B2 hearing aids. I have mild to moderate hearing loss. I oddly have to have it at 100% world volume and the feedback drives me insane. Makes me want to get something new. I had Resound hearing aids before and the volumes were easier to set like not needing the world volume at 100% and with not much feedback.

My problem with trying to just verify I could get hearing aids through the VA was that I kept getting a different story with phone agents. One nice woman said I could get them even though my SSD is not service-related (Covid is to blame) if my income was below a threshold. To get signed up with a second agent, was told I meet the financial threshold, but I didn't qualify per her list of prerequisites, all of which were service-related. I finally gave up an will go through a private provider.Very confusing and maddening!

Great topic. Oregon has a Loop Oregon Committee. Although it’s a bit of a drive to go to the meeting in person (around a three hour drive each way), i do receive their meeting minutes every month. Juliëtte Sterkens and Wynne Wyman, through the Great Lakes ADA Center, will be hosting the above webinar about ADA interpretation and what’s happening with publicly accessible sites on July 18 online. I made sure i had a telecoil option was available in every hearing aids i trialed before i made my purchase. The meeting minutes keep me updated as to the locations that have hearing loops and updates on news of hearing loops. The Hearing Loss Association has a webpage to join in the efforts to loop America. This is a great TED talk and worth watching.

Thx for the info. I and others have a problem I don’t think has been addressed. Musicians that play fretted stringed instruments hear a buzzing at certain frequencies or notes. At first I thought I needed a fret job on my banjo but asked others in my group. Nope you do not have any string buzzing on the frets. I have heard recently on the mandolin cafe website that they have same thing with their instruments. I have hearing aids with an additional microphone in the ear canal. Costco Jabro. I will ask them next time I go in. It’s so bad I have to remove my hearing aids.

I purchased the ConnectClip to supplement my Intent 1 HA's in order to: 1) provide a temporary way to pick-up stream, phone, etc. using an Android phone with older version of Android, 2) to assist as a nearby, remote mic in tough situations, and 3) To round out the quality of sound available in situations where that is a workable strategy. It's a great companion to the Intent's any time you do actually have it on hand. The downside is that is that you will frequently loose it -- as in all the time. It's great beside you on a table for streaming, phones, etc. when you don't have the latest version of android on your phone and is a good added microphone. It's good enough, however, that you will find yourself wanting to use this out in daily life, or in the car and it will continue to fall off of your body. Because it is wrapped in a sound-dampening material, you won't hear it when it falls off of you. You'll just go back to the places you've been, once you discover it is, once again, gone. If you enjoy having to ask strangeres to re-open doors for you or having them stop whatever they are doing to hunt around to help you find things, this is a great device. After 2-1/2 weeks of ownership, I plan to A) buy a second device, and B) drill threaded holes into the clip so that I can attach it to a secure clip that won't come off. It's a great, affordable addition during those moments before it falls off.

Oticon has headquarters in Denmark, is one of the top-of-the line hearing aid makers. It's Oticon Own with In-the-Ear Full Shell costs maybe $8000 USD for a pair, and you can get Bluetooth streaming with that. And you can get a telecoil. But it says right on its web page that it's an either choice. And do you really think any audiologist in the US isn't going to try to upsell customers to this top-of-the-line hearing aid if they can? Why not try and get another brand of hearing aid, well, it's the Oticon that has its neuronet programmed filtering and is well known for being a good choice for high frequency hearing loss.

Experts and manufacturers were/are invited for questioning and studies to further the standard. It's not like hearing aid companies developed it and then consumer electronics companies stole the ideas.

Hearing loss or clarity loss? Mmmmh? Interesting. How come, when I’m in a room with educated individuals who speak clearly, relatively slowly, pronounce their words correctly, project their voice directly to me and those in the group our hearing loss is not so much of a problem? People mumble, speak ridiculously quickly, talk with their heads inside a fridge or point their heads at a running tap and expect you to understand what they are saying. It is good manners to engage in conversation in such a manner that everyone in the group can understand and enjoy the topic and of course…. Don’t interrupt, wait until the person has finished before contributing. Observe a group of young people at a table enjoying a meal……ignore for one minute their mobile phones are of paramount importance……they speak over each other and shout to be heard until it is impossible to recognize the topic. They also believe that speaking rapidly makes them appear intelligent, you pick up the occasional word, you have to concentrate hard and invariably they have the last word. In this scenario you begin to accept, wrongly, you are suffering from clarity loss. Don’t be fooled by the hearing aid sales pitch, many simply increase volume only…..ask the person with whom you are engaged in conversation to talk directly to you, speak clearly, pronounce their words correctly and all will be fine. Hearing loss can be remedied by education, not a gadget manufactured in China. I was at the hospital recently for a scan. The radiologist was talking to me whilst looking at his computer screen, I was to his right on the examination couch, horizontal. I explained I had difficulty understanding what he was saying and he glibly asked if I needed hearing aids. I asked him to turn to me whilst talking and not have his words bounce off the screen, cables and supporting arms before reaching my ears. After a few huffs and puffs he did as I asked and the problem was overcome which prevented repetition.
