I really appreciated how you broke things down with labels and diagrams. A lot of other videos don't do that, and it really helped me understand what was involved in each step.
Great teaching video. You assume the people watching the video don't know how to do any construction work and they are coming to youtube to find out how to do this. Alert to other youtube stations: Do This! That is the point of information exchange! If you already know how to do construction work, you won't be searching for such a how-to video anyway, so well done in knowing how to speak to your audience. I would suggest pointing out to use 3 inch screws for extra security if it is an outside door.
Thanks so much! I have learned so much on CZcams on subjects where I had no previous knowledge. It is actually more fun to design a teaching video for non-construction people to understand.
I 100% agree with your statement. Excellent.
YES!!!👏
^^^ all the above, someone just tried to break in my detached garage last night. The 3inch screws required them to kick it 3 times which made enough noise to wake me up. Turned lights on to give fair warning and investigated to find damage ares, some people suck…
I give this repair video an A +++ rating! VERY Well Done! The audio narration is PERFECT!!! I'm glad I watched your "How To" so I'm better equipped to repair my busted out jam. Thank You!!!
Thanks so much for your kind comment! I made the repair and wrote the script. My wife added the graphics, captions, video editing, and voice narration. She definitely worked harder on this video than I did. LOL!
This was the most comprehensive and well explained process I’ve seen amongst these door jamb repair videos, and I only regret that I watched so very many of them before I found this gem. Thank you for helping us repair our home!
My wife and I work together on these DYI videos. She does the narration and video editing. Warm appreciation from commenters is so pleasing. Thank you for the compliment.
i love how extremely thoroughly specific your instructions were.
Thanks! Wonderful comments are so rewarding.
None of my local hardware stores had the metal repair kit so I followed to the letter. Bada bing bada boom worked like a champ. Thanks so much.
Thanks for your very pleasant remark! The greatest rewards for our videos are the likes and appreciative comments.
Thank you! Your video was so clear and straightforward with good views! Made a shopping list based off your video and was able to fix our door jamb to our garage in under an hour because of your video!
Thanks so much for your kind comment! I made the repair and wrote the script. My wife added the graphics, captions, video editing, and voice narration. She definitely worked harder on this video than I did. LOL!
Amazing Video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a detailed video. I can now fix my same door jam issue with the confidence of doing it right.. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! Good luck with your repair.

I've been looking for videos to fix a very similar problem
You have an excellent way of guiding through the process.
Thank you!
Thanks for commenting on two of our videos!
Fantastic video with great step by step instructions. Not only did this video help me with this exact issue but others I have run into that I now how new knowledge of how to fix. I will be coming to your videos in the future for issues I run into. Thank you for making great content that isn’t full of trying to get sponsors through tool or product advertisement.
My wife and I make these videos. We are not interested in sponsors. Our greatest joy is helping others and receiving warm comments. Thanks for generous compliment!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom! This will make my life easier.
Wisdom! What a kind and complimentary word. Thank you for your comment.
I wish I could give you a 100 thumbs up, you have saved me alot of time and money with this how-to. thank you so very much.

Thank you so much. Positive comments such as yours really make us feel great.
Thank you so much for your help! You are the BEST!!😆❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Took a while to find you. Thankyou
Good luck with your repair!
Good info. Much simpler than replacing the complete door jamb.
Thanks for the compliment! As a landlord who has had more than 200 tenants, I had to find a way to make this common repair.
Wow! Consider me a subscriber. I love how you bother to provide illustrations; how you give just the essentials without rambling and unnecessary commentary (I wish others would follow your lead). It's clear that you planned this out.
Thanks again for another wonderful compliment! I am a big fan of CZcams. However, rambling in CZcams videos sometimes is a problem. I write a concise script before the repair, shoot the video, and give it to my brilliant wife. She adds captions, illustrations, editing, and voice narration.
YES!!!!! 👏
You guys ROCK!!!
Thank you. Great job
Fantastic video. Thanks!
👍Visual aids and instructions are super 👌. Deserve an A+.
Thanks so much! I filmed my repair and gave the raw footage with a script to my wife. She designed all of the visual aids, used Cyberlink Power Director Software for editing, prepared the final video, and performed the voice narration.

i do enjoy the video and i’ll be using this to help my buddy fix his unit, but i have a question, why did you remove the deadbolt? i noticed it at the end of the video
Excellent question! Deadbolt locks do not provide any additional security. I remember that a tenant wanted me to install a deadbolt lock. I told her that it did not matter. Her real security was the $40 per month ADT security system that I paid for. Nevertheless, she convinced the inspector to force me to install a deadbolt lock. Somebody kicked down her deadbolt locked door, stayed a few seconds, and was scared off by the alarm.

@@coolfixin2313 by the way if you don’t mind me asking, how did you cover the hole from the pre-existing deadbolt? we’ll probably be removing the deadbolt due to it being damaged when the door was kicked open.
@@maximusmcgehee2328 Buy a hole cover www.primeline.net/product-categories/door-security/hole-covers.
I know it’ll be harder and a little more time consuming, but would a wood chisel do the same job as an oscillating drill?
Great video BTW. 👍🏻
Yes, you are right. Before I owned an oscillating tool, I would carve the strike indentation with hammer and chisel. But, it is MUCH harder and time consuming. Thanks for the positive comment.
CoolFixin' thanks for the reply. I don’t own that type of drill and although it isn’t expensive, I was trying to find a cheaper way to do the job since I have a chisel here at the house. I might just have to go out and get one. 👍🏻
nice voice
Thanks so much! I have been listening to her for the last 33 years of marriage and I still love her voice.
Gd job
I got lost after the 1x4. Did you cut the 1x4 to 1x2
Excellent Question! At time stamp 2:17, it was revealed that the replacement jamb must be 1 ¾” wide to match the broken jamb. Thus, the picture at 2:30 shows a 1 x 4 which has been cut to a width of 1 ¾”. Please tell your friends about our Tales of the Section 8 Video, czcams.com/video/w02tYgP2_5o/video.html. Can you do a toilet wax ring repair video? Thank you for your videos
Thanks for your question. It was fun to prepare your answer. Watch this fine toilet installation video from Kohler, czcams.com/video/TxW4U97wKU4/video.html. Sometimes, the toilet flange is broken. This normally occurs only with older houses. If your toilet flange is broken, then use this product, www.homedepot.com/p/OATEY-1-4-in-Stainless-Steel-Toilet-Flange-Replacement-Ring-427782/303864005. Also, you may need to raise the height of your toilet flange if you have put down new flooring which causes your flange to be below the finish floor. Watch my Easy Cut Tile Around Toilet video, czcams.com/video/p9la2cgEK3U/video.html&t. This video describes a toilet flange spacer which can elevate your toilet flange. It is permissible to use 2 or 3 spacers stacked together if your toilet flange is quite a bit below the finish floor. Usually, you do not need a flange spacer. If necessary, normally only one spacer is required.
i feel like i been watchin "the magic school bus" of home repair
thank you 😊😊😊 I thought i was the only one who did it that way 😊😊😊
That is very funny. I also have noticed that many contractors are surprised when I describe this smarter method of repairing door jambs. It really is not necessary to remove the entire jamb. That is more time consuming, expensive, and does not yield a better repair.
I had the same thoughts. Every single video out there is how to remove and replace the entire side of the jamb. This is the only video I saw where a small section was cut out and replaced--seems a lot easier to do it this way than remove the whole side. Work smarter not harder!
This is so much cheaper than buying a whole new door frame kit and ripping the old one out. All I have to do is get an oscillating tool and a piece of wood that is the right size.
Thanks for your comment. This type of door damage happens so much in my house rental business that I had to find a way to quickly and effectively make this repair.
@@coolfixin2313 I am sure it happens a lot in the rental business. I plan on installing a keypad lock so it will (hopefully) never happen again. Thank you for the very straight-forward video, it helps to actually see the steps.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
great video but this I s a outdated way of making a latch assembly, it was from a time when people were more honest! nowadays doors need securing with metal plates and 4 inch screws all around it, even the hinges!!
Thanks for your comment. I am not convinced that longer screws are helpful. Yesterday, I repaired a kicked in door with an oversized super latch secured with 3” screws. Your suggestion may work. However, the door would look terrible if somebody unsuccessfully tried to kick in the door. Also, the windows are still vulnerable. The approach that we take to avoid kicked in doors is explained in this video czcams.com/video/AshtclOLzck/video.html.
I agree 4 inch screws make it harder to kick in... but NOT impossible. It'll just take 8 kicks instead of 3... :-/
@@markb.1259 true, keep in mind that someone may hear someone trying to break in and that may wake them up and they can call police
How much did this cost all together
Hmm! I never thought about that. Not including tools, you only need to buy a 1x4, shims, 1 5/8” screws, new door knob lock, and sometimes purchase weather stripping. The total supply cost is about $20.
if you installed 3 inch long screws then it would be a lot harder to kick down
Actually, I sometimes have used 2 ½” or 3” screws. However, the sizes of the screws do not reduce the ease of kicking in a door. I have seen about 70 kicked in doors as a rental landlord over the last 30 years. The only strong doors are commercial, solid metal doors which open to the outside. All residential doors open to the inside. Standard exterior residential wood doors or wood doors with metal exterior (shown in this video) are easy to kick in. Please view how we avoid kicked in door damage in this video czcams.com/video/AshtclOLzck/video.html. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate another opportunity to state that doors are easily kicked in.
Now another one kick and this jamb shatters into pieces again. Always wonder what these doors supposed to protect, put a curtain instead, unless you want protect yourself from weather elements.
Over the last 30 years of being a landlord, I have seen over 50 kicked in doors. It is quite easy to kick in brand new doors. This repair does not weaken the door. New doors are already weak. Please watch our How to Avoid Kicked in Door video czcams.com/video/AshtclOLzck/video.html.
I bet you would be great at reading the book, green eggs and ham.
It would help if you have a list of tools and parts before each video. At the very least just the tools. Great video though
Thanks for your wise suggestion! Our first instructional video about how to remove windows with nailing fins, czcams.com/video/Pb8r5xvjgqI/video.html&t, did list the tools and materials. Our siding repair video, czcams.com/video/gYAn7k8yClk/video.html, also lists the tools and material. However, we at CoolFixin’, make a strong effort to be concise and reduce the length of our videos. Thus, we sometimes eliminate the twenty to thirty seconds necessary to list the tools. The door jamb repair video was already one of our longest videos and we therefore decided not to add tool and material information.
Did you hire someone else (not builder) to recorded your voiceover?
Well yes. In a sense, I did hire somebody to do the voice over. I married her 32 years ago. She also did the captions, illustrations, and video editing.

(Note) it won’t crack if you use solid oak
I always use pine because it is less expensive. Pilot holes in the pine is necessary to prevent cracking. I do not have much experience with solid oak. Thus, your statement that solid oak will not crack may be true. I just do not know. Thanks for the tip.

band aid
Don’t do this people you have to replace the whole board to make it strong enough this is just a Band-Aid or a rig job. God bless you out there my brother and sisters repent and accept our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into your heart so you can be saved amen. ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸
This comment is simply untrue. This door repair is no stronger or weaker than most new doors. Any knowledgeable carpenter would tell you that all standard, new doors are very easy to kick in. If you want a very strong door, you must install a fully, metal door which opens to the outside. A standard metal exterior door with a wood interior which opens to the inside can be easily kicked in. I have only repaired about 70 new doors installed by competent contractors which were kicked in without much effort.
