That’s awesome Bill as we do exactly the same with our Real Estate work where they don’t want to spend that much on damaged door frames
This is the most helpful video ever. I just moved into my new apartment and they gave me one key but the top and bottom locks were different and I only had a key to the top one. So when I left and came back at night I was locked out in the rain and had to kick it in. Just fixed it myself thanks to you 🙏🏼
Always a proper job on Billshowto :) and what a finish, who would not be happy with that job.
Great job as usual. Love your videos! So helpful
Nice job Bill, you have an eye for detail
Thanks thanks….thank You Bill!!! Great video!
I like the Budget Repair! Excellent Work!
Excellent job.
To state the obvious your repair is stronger than the glass next to it. The only possible problem might be cracking due to slamming the door. But as you stated it was a cheap fix. Nice finish. Great job.
That's an amazing repair considering it called a budget. Top stuff Bill. 👍
You are an exceptionally talented tradesman - as a budget repair I would call the finished product 'high standard' - sadly there is no strength in that door's latch side at all. Great work.
Great job Bill! Gonna try to do this myself. Thanks again!
Exellent work, thank you
you are a genius!! thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Satisfied and very much needed this inspiration
Love your videos man! You're a hero!
Great Work Bill 👌
Great job Bill 👍👍👍
Definitely would do it that way, I think the way you repaired the jamb, it would be stronger than it was previously. Great solutions for common issues on your videos. thank you🤩
Another great video, thanks Bill
Well done sir, well done
This is soooo helpful!
Great job mate 👍👍👍
This guy is excellent
Brilliant!
Wish I could get a competent handyman in our area. Nice job Bill.
They are few and far between these days, especially ones that charge a reasonable rate. I owe the majority of my work to careless handymen that came before me, but it really bothers me that so few of them seemed to really try to do a good job. But part of that is customers fault, because these days customers want fast and cheap, so it just becomes the normal way of doing things. Fast/cheap and good don't normally go together.
@@dustman96 Agreed. We had a plumber out recently who was here all day and fixed a lot of problems, the bill was steep but he did a great job.
The frame is weak though
2.5 - 3" Screws should be used for Any Strike plate but this door frame isn't wide enough for 3" Screws
Could need that fix right NOW 😊
Really nice job Bill. With the 1x jamb this was the best that could be done. On 2x openings I use a jamb mender ( one piece metal bracket with upper and lower latch openings). They are pricey ($40) but makes the repair much faster. Budget repairs for me are usually rentals.
Love the work man I’m gonna have to do this for my place.
Awesome Bill. Builders Bog is fantastic to work with. Great job as always Bill. Cheers mate
I think it was probably better looking than in this video--great job
Nice job overall. I really like how you patched the holes and made it look like the door was never kicked in. I do see some issues though: 1) Why not take off the deadbolt plate and let the PL cure. 2) The doorknob strike plate screws were screwed into wet PL. I would have waited for the the PL cure before doing this step. 3) When you screwed in the top screw all the way flush with the drill gun, it split the wood. I recommend using the drill gun on the screws until they are about 1/4 inch away from the frame and then hand tighted the rest of the way to avoid splitting the wood.
Legend! 👍
Awesome
Thanks for sharing, Bill :-) I didn't know this sort of repair was an option. Hope I never have an occasion to do a repair to a kicked in door but if it ever happens, this will be a handy reference!
Much prefer this video over the head piece last time, I was nauseous from that 😂 hopefully these people don't have more thief's (?) trying to break in again. Hope all is well in their world.
Hi Bill. My venetian blinds pulling cables are out of alignment. Can't turn the blinds upwards. Any chance you could do a video please? Because I like your way of explaining and your practical knowledge.
I would have done exactly the same 💯
Great job mate. Curious why you use bog with this job instead of polyfiller, or something else easier to sand? Is it for quicker drying time?
Also, do you have a minimum call out fee, and what does that give the customer?
saved me from a breakup lol thanks man
Great job. What kind of filling paste did you use?
Good job mate. Do you mind sharing how much you charged for that repair?
Interesting! I'd never have considered repairing a door jamb this way. How does this compare in strength against the normal route of replacing the wood? How much would one charge for that versus this?
If i’m missing some of the broken pieces could I still do a repair like this or would i have to have the whole frame replaced?
Good for small kick damage. Hopeless cops damaged the larger jamb for my rental property few month ago , I have to change entire door jamb which is painful
Almost exactly what I’m doing right now haha
Hi, I chiselled too large of hole in the jamb when installing a strike plate. Is it OK to builders bog to full then screw the plate into it? Is bog strong enough to secure the plate?
Bill, I just want to say thank you _so much_ for your help. I (a female) installed a new handheld shower perfectly for my elderly Parents, thanks to you.
We have a door knob that doesn't pull back the 'lock' (the part going into the door) properly and so opening the door has become quite difficult. Is there any way you can do a video on how to fix that? Many thanks and best regards
Hi, firstly your very welcome. Regarding your door lock, sometimes they are repairable and others it’s a simple replacement. Depending on the style of lock it may worthwhile replacing the lock. If you like, send me a photo and I should be able to help further 👍
@@billshowto Hi Bill😊, thank you, okay I will as soon as I can 👍🏻. Big thank you! PS Where do I send the photo to?
well, for a budget repair, it's about as good as it is going to get. Would it be worth going harder and replacing the full door jam? Maybe, but given the glass beside the door, security is pretty poor no matter what you do with the door jam, and obviously they dont lock the security screen door either, so my verdict - good enough.
What did you buy from hardware store !
Bro if you do something like that you should use Bondo there is no way that will hold up. Also put way more glue in that
Hey Bill, question with those strike plates. Do you tape them for a reason instead of removing them and reattaching after painting?
Usually remove to paint around them but in this case I wanted to fill the damaged area around the strike plates so I needed to know the finished position 👍
Bill what products did you use? If you said it I apologize I don’t think I heard it…
👍👍
Open a franchise bro 👍🏼
What is he using to fill it in? Is it just regular spackling paste?
Would you ever use spray foam behind the strike plate and all the missing wood from the door being kicked in this is what my maintenance man is done for my door
buen trabajo aun te falta mas maña y delicadeza no debiste rajar agrietar la pieza rota ..... no usardemasiado tornillo pues terminas debilitando esa pieza
How much should a job like this cost
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿❤️🔥
My question is..I had to kick in my front door and I did the best I could to repair the wood inside, but I now want to fix around it because it's not secure including the deadbolt then I will worry about the inside....so to secure my front door what do I need to replace? I've tried searching and I'm not finding what I need, can ANYONE please let me know?
Tia 🙏🏼
Why wouldn’t you take the plates off first ?
I would of taken the plates off and put back on after it was painted. It seems ok but really just knock that piece of timber out and replace it. Bunnings would cut that piece to length and width for you so really just need to knock out two sections where the plates are. I bet this is a rental and the owner is a tight ass as usual. 🙄
Question is does this job you did make is slightly easier to kick in the door than before. I bet yes but the owner doesn't seem to care no doubt as it's a rental.
Unfortunately not that simple in this case as there is a side window panel . This will be just as strong. At the end of the day if you want to kick a door in it will eventually break👍
Shouldn't you have taken the striker plate off first prior to installation 🤦♂️
Nice cosmetic 💄 fix. Gluing screwing and sparkling splintered wood ain't that strong tho. Just saying lol
The solution of all the problems: glue, screws and split wood ...
Meth Lab Police raid repair?😶
What the fuck?
Perfect repair! 👌 Why waste new material, when you can actually fix something with skill & love. ✌😘
