Thanks for the video of your first experience with FSD. I just got FSD too on my Model Y. My first trip was spooky, a bit. I had to intervene several times. The worst one was FSD tried to change lanes in the middle of an intersection. I prevented that, and completed the lane change after the intersection. When the car had to choose one of two left hand turning lanes, it seemed indecisive, and dithered the wheel left, right, left right, like it couldn’t decide which lane to line up in. I took control and selected the outermost lane (from center of the road). Arriving at a destination, the car simply stopped on the street and didn’t try to enter the parking lot driveway. I’m not sure if it is supposed to do that yet. Lastly, FSD had no idea where my home was when returning there. Basically, it drove to a street in back of my house and thought I was home. There is no driveway to my house at that location. In fact, it’s a nearly vertical hillside 40 feet below my house. It would be quite the offroad experience to get up to my house from there. It’s some kind of mapping problem, I’ll probably have to reset the “home” location. Overall, FSD was able to handle mixed city, freeway, lane changes, traffic lights, and stop signs pretty well (with a little help).

Thanks for posting your first experience. One friendly advice, fold up the visors so viewers can see the road well. I camera cud have been positioned lower so the view of the road is better......but I understand that you wanted your face to be see (in rear view mirror) as you spoke.

I got my Model Y just over a month ago and bought a month long subscription to FSD. It does a great job, but can get, as you saw, conservative on multi-lane intersections. I downloaded the v12 yesterday and am impressed. The 180 degree visualization is great! Can't wait to try it on the highway.

1. The FSD trial is for North America. I got the trial in Canada as well. :)
2. You can press the gas pedal if you want the car to accelerate when the autopilot is engaged.
Right I just learn that now if you want to make it accelerate a little fast while still keep FSD engaged.

Maybe the reason it didn’t turn left is because your test was on the average profile, not assertive. Who knows?

That might be the case on assertive option but split second decision making it’s very important in that moment so I don’t everyone would be comfortable adjust it to assertive especially when it’s your first try.

@@dadstoyscars Agreed. It shouldn’t require a more aggressive profile to handle those blinking left arrows. It may be that this light pattern is less common in other areas, and not yet accounted for well in the programming.
It sort of highlights one of the reasons why this widespread free trial would be useful for Tesla. They’ll have a tsunami of data to sift through from all the drivers interested in testing it.

You can push the car through the intersection on a yellow/red light by tapping the accelerator pedal if you want FSD to stay engaged. This is obviously a gray area where some people would move through the intersection as the light turns red, where others would stay in the crosswalk and wait for a green arrow. Just personal preference and not a big issue imo.
Agee, I could have done that but I just wanted to see and test what would FSD do with any assist from driver.

I have been testing mine in my M3LR the last couple days. It's pretty cool but I don't think I would buy it. I have to grab the wheel or turn a scroll wheel about every 30 seconds so to me I might as well just drive it myself which i don't mind instead of constantly getting prompted to pull on the wheel. I can relax a lot better just holding the wheel and chilling out, accelerating and changing lanes on my own.

I got my MY LR a month ago, and got the FSD Trial yesterday. I think its really impressive, a few times it was a bit confused (an example a bus pulled over right past a stop light) so I turned it off then turned it back on within 5 seconds (I already went like 130 miles with it). The only thing I didn't like is when on the highway the car seemed to only want to set the max speed limit to 55 even though I passed multiple speed limit signs with 65 / 70 as the speed limit
I used FSD for the first time. Wow Awesome!!

This version 12( no longer Beta).. it is change to “supervised FSD”… previous version 10 r 11 … drive tend to robotic when making lane change or right turn and from time to time break to hard… you should try long drive with more traffic..

Wow. These look like trivial problems for FSD in other videos I've seen yet it failed. So basically it's really finnicky and still nerve racking even if there are videos with no interventions for long drives. Makes me think twice about getting it. Thanks for the video!

I got it to. Its great. Very good feature. However without intervention, it would have crashed. 3 times. One time it was almost about to drive into a building. Its 20$ a month, not 200. 200, thats push an go to sleep ready. Cool video. I don't have a channel or id upload my cars errors.

How you got that email from Tesla ? Did they just pick random ? I would love to try it too
You will first receive the software update notification on your app first. After you’re updating software in your car then you will receive the email.
Tesla just randomly send out the free trial to owners but eventually everyone in the US with FSD compatible car should get it.

@dadstoyscars ok I guess you don't understand the question. Was asking what prompted the email for the free trial. I haven't gotten the email yet.
@@ZupE891 First you will get notification on your Tesla app for new Updates which included both software update and FSD software.
After the software is installed in your car which you can check in both app and your car that it activates FSD. Then you will get email from Tesla that your FSD 30 days free trial is activated.
But you don’t need to wait for email because you can use FSD right away after the installation is done.
Is this only for HW4 or does HW3 qualify for the free FSD for a month?
Both my 2023 Model Y and 2021 Model 3 have HW3.
I don’t think the HW3 or HW4 matter as long as you’re in the US and your car has compatible FSD hardware. You will receive the free trial.

As far as left turn goes, not many Co Tesla has FSD, the more people drive in your neighborhood , and the better FSD will work… need video data from cities and state of CO

I bought FSD 5 years ago in the EU, still never could use it, cannot transfer it to a new one, no payback, its a big big big shame for tesla. As if there are no buyers outside the US. I really regret buying FSD because even a beta is not available. Big big shame.

Very disappointing that it didn't pull out more into the intersection at that light, so it could go before the light changed. Other more popular CZcamsrs don't seem to be having this issue or they just aren't showing it. I have yet to try this version of v12 in my car, guess I'll find out soon enough.

@@dadstoyscars Well, it's supposed to go into the intersection, unless there is a crosswalk with people crossing. Legally you can be in the intersection and go when the light changes, because you can't be stuck there.

I got my FSD free trial today (Sunday March 31). I tested it and was not impressed. It’s just too timid at stop signs even in aggressive setting. In about 30 minutes of driving around the neighborhood I took over 3 times and hit the accelerator several times as well. I was hoping for a better 1st experience. I told my wife not to try it. She would hate it. I’m not going to use it with her in the car. We have a new Model X so maybe it doesn’t like h the Hardware 4.

Great video. Fun to play with it. It does not make a left turn into 2 or more lanes too well from a stop light. I guess you will not be using it with your children in the car. I wish they offered free parking assistance only when supercharging when the trial is over.

Try it a few time and you will trust the system more and you will find that you are the issue and not FSD
You installed 3 million rear screens already, need to try it a week and come back with another video
I installed mine several days ago. Man, it's impossible to trust. I love how it turns on red when the sign says no turn on red. Don't see myself purchasing this.

It’s awful! I used it yesterday and it wanted to go down a 1 way the wrong way! The streets are not updated. Stops at a stop sign for way long than needed. Constantly disengages from FSD. Thank god I didn’t pay for this

The issue he has about the left turn is not the problem. He is the first time FSD user. The car would have finished both times without any issues. He was just nervous so he disengaged. I am a beta tester for over a year. I know I have now v12.3.2 and drove more than 500 miles in Philadelphia.
About the price, you have no idea how much your life style changes after using. Even v11.4.9 worth every penny of my good $15,000 I paid. Every I use to go to work and come back at night driven by not so perfect v11.4.9.
Now V12 wow. You have to experience it to believe how much it is worth. I am keeping MYL more than 10 or 15 years and you have a personal chauffeur at $15,000. It is a bargain
@@9229kimhong Yeah, he knows now he can just push the accelerator without disengaging to finish the turn if FDS is being over cautious. Other than that, it was a great drive!
