I call them fatal fury characters aswell. And Mai’s design is used from that game.
I flip-flop between them. People nowadays know them from the King of Fighters because we've had twelve games and at least one movie since the last time Fatal Fury had a game (not counting re-releases). Even Smash counted him as KoF when he was added which wasn't going to help anything.

Another note is that the EX characters from Street Fighter EX/FLEX do exist in the main canon SF world, though the games and events from them aren't.

Maybe I’m insane but this crossover gives me hope for Darkstalkers characters
It's darkly funny, as someone who likes _Darkstalkers_ too, that takes Capcom crossing over with an entirely different company to have any hope of it using one of its own properties (beyond Morrigan) again.
While I'd like to see some more Darkstalkers as much as the next guy, I don't think Street Fighter is a good fit for a crossover.
Now what I want to see is Vampire Savior 3 featuring Dante from Devil May Cry. He'd fit right in!
I am hoping for Asura's Reincarnation to become a stable character in Street Fighter
Probably not as Darkstalkers is primarily Gothic Horror and that means many of the characters wouldn't fit the aesthetic of Street Fighter VI

Since SF6 now has two SNK characters, it's only a matter of time before SNK to do the same thing by bringing in a SF character in Garou.

My head canon is that they're in the same universe. Metro City is based off NYC obv, and South Town is apparently based on Miami. So it could still kinda work, I guess. 😅
Something that doesnt get acknowledged enough is that the person that created Street Fighter also created Fatal Fury. So Terry and Mai are basically Step-Siblings to Ryu and Ken. So even if they come from a different series, they are still related.
Now personally, I hope this is a one time thing. I really dont want Capcom making this a habit.
IMPORTANT: Street fighter, isn't street fighter II the game people think about as the start of the series.

Piston takashi left capcom for snk and made Fatal fury which technically would be the True street fighter 2 because he had more control over how he wanted the game to be ....

The final fury characters added is actually pretty cool addition if u ask me canon or non-canon I always felt Street Fighters and SNK In general fit hand and glove if we go from a 90s perspective the animations were similar the characters stories were never too deep to not be added to another lore of fighting and a Ken vs Terry match is a dreamer so I can live with it I’d like to see more plus Geese did good in Tekken so hey why not ? Street fighter isn’t too far off

That's true. But actually Captain Commando was always part of the Street Fighter universe, as it was established the story takes place in Metro City and Sho/Ginzu (the ninja) is that time's heir to Bushinryu (Guy's martial art).

I’m happy that this finally happening! Mostly because I’m part of the huge bro community that wants Ken VS Terry matchups. I will always have Smash Ultimate for that since I don’t play Street Fighter anymore, but I’m glad to see them actually branching out again.

SF6, the sequel for SFIII, has no SFIII characters but now it'll have guest characters that adds nothing to the charm of both SF and KOF universe.

Plot Twist, Terry Bogard's first appearance was actually in Street Fighter 1 so he's technically not a guest character. It's just the first time he's playable in Street Fighter

I can maybe see them wanting to continue some stuff from the CVS games like Ken and Terry's implied rivalry/friendship, so they might do what Tekken did with Akuma. This isn't Terry from Fatal Fury or KOF, there's just another version of Terry who exists in the Street Fighter world

Terry will transition very well in Street Fighter 6 but I’m not sure how Mai will function. Her playstyle in KoF pretty much like a shinobi; hit and run aka kiting, not combo-esque like everybody else. So I’m excited what developers are going do with her.

People think that having a guest be canon in another franchise means that guest’s entire franchise canon is part of the canon of where they’re appearing, and it simply isn’t true. Not only would it be a legal & logistical nightmare that creates more problems than solutions, it’s hard enough keeping continuity & canon on track as it is! At most, the history of the character informs their personality & motivation in the story, but it isn’t consequential to their history & future outside the game.

Yeah I was literally thinking the original approach (i.e: The guest characters from a company that made the game should only come from other games that the same company made before. As in, if this was Street Fighter, and Capcom made that; Capcom has the right to use guest characters from other mainline games only Capcom has made; which are technically Darkstalkers, Final Fight, Rival Schools, etc. which are mainline games made by Capcom.) was better.
Instead Capcom decided to call off-brand characters (like SNK, Namco, etc. characters) as “guest characters” and by using Katsuhiro’s hacked approach, bound them onto Street Fighter, a complete mainline game from Capcom only. This in turn, is starting to destroy the canonicity of the said mainline game; turning Street Fighter 6 into a crossover like Tekken 7. In short, Street Fighter 6 is making those SNK characters as “timeline canon”, thereby breaking its own canonicity to its own timeline.
If this wasn’t canon lore, I’d enjoy this, no questions asked. Sadly this is canon lore; so I’m very much disappointed at Capcom because of it. They made the same mistake Namco made, and it may very well turn all of this into “real life MUGEN”.

It makes more sense because 1, Marking wise and getting hype for Fatal Fury City of the Wolves in 2025 and 2, Street Fighter 6 And Fatal Fury-Wolves are latest both game franchises’ timeline and it is about the Next Generation Fighting Games.

Capcom should just buy SNK at this point.
I don't enjoy guest fighters. They take up valuable time and resources to implement that could be going towards characters that are highly requested or characters that haven't had a chance to come back.
It’s a game changer but it’s also to early in my opinion. The fact that it’s still only 4 characters a year and they take 50% of the pack and Elena a character that’s not high on the voting pole makes it worse. It’s almost a disrespect to fans who are still looking for the most top voted character like Dudley, C.Viper, Makoto, Cody and Sagat. It’s almost as if Capcom isn’t listening to fans and are doing what they want. I’m not against these characters Bison is my main so I’m happy but I look at this and think this is to early and we need more fan favorites back first. That’s just my opinion.
I'm ok with the guests, but too many characters people would like to see aren't in the game yet. I would say wait until the fanbase is ok with and settled into the roster before adding characters from another game.

EX characters exist in the world of Street Fighter but the stories aren't canon and fans been wanting Skullomania in a modern Street Fighter game for years.
Firstly, EX characters were made by Arika, not Capcom. Secondly, they have a different timeline of sorts. So those don’t count.
The same guy who createe street fighter 1 from 1987 left capcom for snk to make both fatal fury and art of fighting.....
So in a way fatal fury is the real steeet fighter 2 ..... and like half brothers !

That's 🧢 Guess nobody played Capcom v SNK 1 or 2 or even SNK v Capcom which was made by SNK.
A full crossover game is not the same as a guest fighter. Nor does the existence of said crossover make it canon.
Terminator and Robocop were guest characters but are they considered a part of the MK canon? Heck no. So that doesn't mean much. It all depends on what story the creators feed us. They're the ones who really decide what's Canon and what's not.
As for the original crossovers, I considered them to be Canon from the beginning so now my theory has been proven (or made) to be right.
