Fun fact: ONE of the reasons the USA doesn’t recognize Western Sahara is because of an agreement with Morocco stating that if the USA wouldn’t recognize Western Sahara, that Morocco would recognize Israel.
" The only reason " .... Wtf are you talking about!
Wdym only reason??? Morocco is an official Non-NATO ally, they were the first country to recognize the united states' and pissing off Morocco would mean losing influence in North Africa to China. Do you recognize Western Sahara?
Bolivia: well yes but actually no but actually yes
Bolivia's president got couped in 2019, but his party managed to win the ensuing election in 2020. So for that ~1 year that the coup government was in power, said coup government didn't recognize Western Sahara.
Well now that America has officially recognized Morocco's claim in order to please Israel, Western Sahara can't count on any support from us
Wait hold on, isn't Morocco an Arabic nation???
They're a rump state. Morocco can probably run the region more smoothly anyway.

I always wonder why Spain just gave up Western Sahara. It is relatively close to them and integrated like the Canaries or Ceuta
Because Franco didn't wanna look bad, the UN and most "developed" countries had been hounding Spain to give up it's colonial possessions for a while and the Sahrawi people had been waging a guerilla war with Spain for a while.
Drain of ressources, bad reputation within the international community, no real good reason to keep it except for an outdated conception of colonial prestige?
Juan Carlos I was a traitor
Pretty simple dude: political pressure. Sure, there was a beligerant Canarias independence movement: but it was nothing on the scale of what the push for West Saharan secession was. Virtually the entire Arab-speaking world were putting massive political pressure on Spain to relinquish Western Sahara, and Morocco wanted that land aswell. Add to that Spain's internal counterculture-inspired pressure to decolonise, and there was no good reason to keep Western Sahara
Because there would have been an colonial war otherwise and Franco knew very well that would have result in a Carnation revolution in Spain.
Nice 👍👍

Just published a paper on this topic. Of id only seen this video 4 days prior…
Maybe make a video about how many countries support Morocco (a lot of countries have embassies in the Sahara, I think 28 plus USA ufficial recognition)
Only the US has a recognition and it was thanks to Trump (Biden doesn't really want to get involved, but he can't revoke the recognition because that would anger both Morocco and Israel), so I'd say that it's supported by the Middle East and some random African countries that depend on Morocco.
@@user-yn2cw5nz2t Biden administration officially said "we support Morocco's territorial integrity, and there will be no change in our position regarding WS" (USA recognition took 2 years of work, every state in the us had to agree, it's not something trump did by himself)
Just try google.
THE UK said the same (though still have to recognize like the us did) Almost all of Europe supports morrocan autonomy plan (just another fact you can easily google).
Edit: 25 African countries have embassies in WS, a lot of them are relevant in Africa. Nigeria was a huge supporter of "polisario" but now they never even mention them (they still recognize them but seeing how things are, that won't be for very long)
@@jedlen4262 Hello, I am an actual Sahrawi doing research on this topic. Although the US still says they'll keep the recognition, we've noticed a change of language, with the US now supporting dialogue between the POLISARIO Front and the Kingdom of Morocco. They also stopped the US consulate in Dajla and some military aid.
On the other side, having a consulate doesn't mean a recognition, as Colombia for example confirmed. It can mean support to the Moroccan stance, but never a full recognition.
@@jedlen4262 And not really, most European countries support a "fair solution under the UN", with some even talking about a referendum, a right Sahrawis have. The EU Court itself confirmed that the territory is different than Morocco and although the EU will try to get that sentence repealed, they won't get much under legal terms. Remember that Sweden's governing party pledged to recognise the SADR, although we're waiting.
@@jedlen4262 Algeria and South Africa are superpowers in the continent and Nigeria recently sent a delegation to Tinduf, so I'd say the three support the SADR. Also, how interesting to see that Algeria, Mauritania and Tunisia have some sympathy towards the SADR based on the recognition, the "positive neutrality" or their vote in the UNSC that supports Sahrawi interests. I'd say POLISARIO still has a chance because most countries don't want a Moroccan expansion.
