Swing Kids is a great movie. Made me fall in love with Swing music.
This is the 1935 Benny Goodman version (cover) done at Carnegie Hall. Louis Prima did the original version I think in the late 20's. Louis Prima played trumpet and was the band leader as well. You are watching the Swing Kids Movie.
I love to listen to this song and drive a car from the 30s in forza. It feels so authentic.
Fashion of the thirties was so beautiful , men and women . Even the architecture was total class!
BTW Louis (louey) Prima was the voice of the orangutan in the original Disney The Jungle Book animated movie.
By my hero Benny Goodman!
Swing Kids was a counter-culture which formed in Nazi Germany. Rebellious youth organized their own parties in clandestine locations to enjoy music they loved, which Hitler and the Reich hated, especially Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman, who was Jewish. Swing and Jazz music were considered degenerate by the Nazi state and eventually forbidden in clubs, cafes and restaurants. Some violators actually were sent to concentration camps. Günter Discher, a Swing Kid leader, was arrested in 1943 and deported to the Moringen concentration camp. Discher survived the war and lived to tell the tale of the youth counter-culture that defied Hitler himself:
“For us kids back then swing music was a certain way of life, swing music meant unlimited freedom. We were looking for a-rockin’ thing.” Long Live Rock!
Louis Prima wrote "Sing Sing Sing". The great Gene Krupa on the drums.
Big Band is so cool. It shows that you can have a solid beat with plenty of melody and harmonies. Non-electronic instruments have a quality that has subtlety and nuance that thrills the soul.
Well said!
That's not Louis Prima, that's Benny Goodman
LP has a version with Sam butera and the witnesses. Much more entertaining as it contains vocals and sax
Yes the house guy. I believe the other guy was Batman. 😳 the movie was called Swing Kids.
Yup a very young Christian Bale 'Batman'. And the 'House' guy is Robert Sean Leonard, who was also in 'Dead Poets Society'.
And, yeah, each of these dance moves has a name!
This song was covered by a number of bands. Plus this is not the original version of " Sing Sing Sing " the drummer and the solo made it popular.
i wish you would Actually watch a Louis prima and keely Smith Live song ( with video ) > this is from a MOVIE so you do not even get to experience Prima singing or acting GOOFY with Keely >>> please REDO with Prima not movie >>>> but i like that you did this Video I love this video and that was cool >> just that calling it Louis Prima >> i was excepting seeing and hearing him >>>>> GREAT SONG THOUGH & GREAT PICK and thanks for all your hard work and great content
