Defense of Japan is awesome. But the offense is too predictable at the open. Quick attacks are missing. I hope they could replace or find like the legendary Saori Kimura and Saori Sakoda.

I know this comment is late but I want to say that I'm very happy that the Russian team is doing well again. Goncharova, as usual, a monster. Irina has improved so much! I think she's one of the best MB right now. Startseva, like before, always consistent. The Russians need Tatiana Kosheleva. She's the only Russian player that can match the output of Goncharova. Russia's first six: Goncharova, Kosheleva, Voronkova, Fetisova, Koreleva, Startseva, and Molova (L).
The reason why i love JAPAN WOMEBS NATIONAL TEAM is their fighting spirit no matter how tough and tall their enemies they will try their best to win💙💛❤💜💚

Russia has to find more powerful and consistent spikers like kosheleva, gamova or sokolova in order to come back to stand on the podium again since voronkova and parubets are not the same level of top players like zhuting, boskovic, egonu. Only wing spikers are needed as they already have great middle blockers in the team.

Startseva is the key why Russia is still a powerful team today. When she temporarily left the team, the setters who replaced her were so ineffective and couldn't maximize the team arsenal. Russia has more powerful spikers than any other teams out there, but they struggle to even have a podium finish. Now that startseva is back, We'll just wait for the full recovery of Tanya Kosheleva. Russia will rise again.
I stan Brazil all the way. But I admit Goncharova has one of the strongest arm swings in all women's volleyball.
I agree about some aspects. Startseva is definitely the core of the NT. But as of now, Goncharova is the only more consistent powerhouse. Parubets is strategic, Voronkova is juvenile. I am unsure about the new recruits. As far as MB, Fetisova is stronger than Koroleva but Koroleva is definitely taller. If Kosheleva decides to make her appearance in the 2020 Olympics then she could take her post again. Otherwise, of the top teams, Russia is in the bottom. Italy, Brazil, Serbia, Turkey and USA by far have the highest # of potentials in their lineup/benches. Even Poland is limited to Smartzek and Stysiak.
@@johnreyk.5877 what I meant was when Gamova was still playing her remaining years on the NT. They coulda defended the crown if Startseva was there.
I know Goncharova is the go-to player of the team now, esp that Kosheleva is not playing. But if we talk about raw power, the youngsters of Russia are power spikers. Voronkova, for instance. She is a very devastating attacker. If only she knows how to vary her attacks and not always aim for the opponent's floor defender. And I've watched some of Russia's highlights during the Olympiad 2019. Couldn't say anything less about their offense.

@@ManXBoy I am not very confident about Voronkova whatsoever. She did not show this during the VNL. She was not very stellar in the WCH last year either. I haven't seen her in the 2020 OQT .
@@johnreyk.5877 I think you're missing my point. The reason why Voronkova does not gain much recognition, is because despite her immense power, she is just more on power. You know what I mean?

@@Yesu44 Sorry but height has A LOT to do with sports. China's success has much to do with their blocking (they have one of the tallest MBs). Russia's blocking is also like China's. They rely on height. But ofcourse talent and skills is also a big part of that.

I think one of the missing plays of Japan is the backrow attack from the rightside. But I don't disregard Shinabe since she is so great and has a superb floor defense. I think she is the strongest opposite player in terms of floor defense. 😁
