    My heart was set on a Husqvarna until I sat on one and had trouble getting off due to my height. Sat on a s140 and had no issues and the pedals were how I wanted them! Now I'm getting a deere!

    If anyone is looking to buy one go with the s160 not the s120 as it only cost $200 more and get more HP plus bigger deck ,brush guard and a lumbar on seat. Also DO NOT BUY ONLINE even though shipping is free it actually cost more than in stores.

    Awesome mower. I just bought the s130. I too am changing that filter. I can't understand why there's no drain for the oil. After changing the filter, you don't get all the oil. Thats going to ruin the engine. So I'm buying the parts to swap it out.

    The home depot online is not a good place to order a mower. paid for one 3 weeks ago and cant reach anyone that knows anything about it . called home depot 10 times called Pape' john deere. in sandpoint a week ago and they said they had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. they lied. it's been sitting there for 3 weeks. still dont have my mower.

      If it makes you feel any better I had the same run around for 3 weeks from home depot. They have john deere deliver it but no one at home depot knew which dealership it was. The guy said his driver was out with the “vid” but I like you waited and got the run around. I ordered mine back in early December and didn’t get it until first or second week of January. I feel your pain.

      I couldn’t agree more! I’m sure it is for those who just want something simple to deal with and don’t care about the longevity of the engine. But hey if they want to leave old oil and small metal fragments from the break in for the life of the engine, that’s on them.

      To remove backup button safety:
      Open hood
      Pull plug that goes to button
      Splice a spade connector from white to black connector in the plug. (This way you can remove splice wire and reuse plug to factory)
      This bypasses the button switch and you can cut both in forward/reverse without having to press any buttons.

      Remove seat safety
      This is so you can get off the tractor to move dog toys debris etc and not have to restart it all the time.... or if you want to run your deck washer for 5mins,. Not have to sit on the mower the whole time)
      Pull plug attached to the seat.
      Use a piece of plastic to separate the contacts in the middle of the plug.
      Wrap in black tape and don’t plug back in.
      Done.

    I just bought an S170. I noticed that mine along with the majority of others has a defect or flaw. The 2 silver J hooks that help lift your deck tend to be crooked. The one on the left of mine is straight up and down but the one of the right is crooked. This is going to lead to premature wear and tear on the washer and cotter pin. I'm not sure why John Deere screwed this up. Its actually due to the black lift arm that picks the deck up. For some reason there is play in this thing. The arm is only supposed to go up and down but mine has some play from left to right. How is yours?

    • @RedneckBeach
      @RedneckBeach  Před 3 lety

      I bought one of those plastic John deere level kits. I was surprised how out of wack it came from the factory. In the manual it states for my s160 the front tires are 14 psi and the rear 10 psi. Even on the tires max states this. However they were all at 22 psi and had to let the air out to meet spec. Also both sides of the deck were around 2 inches lower than they should have been from factory. Even though the deck was that low the front of it was still 1/4 lower. So give them a point for that being like the manual. How is your experience?

      @RyanMiller3039 Před 3 lety

      @@RedneckBeach mine was little out of level from the factory. I noticed that the righthand side J hooks are crooked on nearly all of the mowers at the store. When i lower the deck to a cutting position the j hook straightens out more. I should checks the tires because I never did that.

    what are you doing to swap out the oil change with?

    • @RedneckBeach
      @RedneckBeach  Před 3 lety +1

      Good question. I plan to do an update video to convert this easy oil change back to factory Briggs & Stratton specs. This way you can drain ALL of the oil from the engine not just the 0.5 quart of oil that is in the “easy change”. The goal being to drain all small metal shavings from after the initial engine break in period. This should allow the engines life to last longer.

      @@RedneckBeach Good deal, looking forward to the video. Is there a reason you think the manufacturer wouldn't have taken this into consideration? Also how might this might have passed tests if not all the oil and harmful elements are being removed with what should be their comparable solution. Is it safe to assume that since their warranty is only for 2 years that they are technically only guaranteeing a certain amount of time before you start having problem with other components, the oil change system being one? Curious to hear your thoughts.

    do you have any hills or ditches to mow? does it do well on hills? this D170 couldn't get up this hill czcams.com/video/9_3qCmCmlIg/video.html could your mower make it up a hill like that?

    • @RedneckBeach
      @RedneckBeach  Před 3 lety +4

      I live on the east coast. We don’t have my hills or steep inclines. From what I understand the S170 uses a beefier transmission than the S160 which I have. The S120-S160 have the TL200 transmission where the S170 & S180 have the Tuff Torq HD K46. If the tuff torq isn’t good enough for your application. You might have to step up to their X series tractors, which are available at John Deere Dealerships.
      After watching the video that seems like a weak transmission and for what little I have drove it, I haven’t had any issues like that.

    • @andybub45
      @andybub45 Před 3 lety

      I have a LT150 with the K46 transmission, it does just fine on hills but the K46 is known to not last very long if used in a hilly terrain over a long period of time.

    • @mrbubetube
      @mrbubetube Před 3 lety

      @@andybub45 I've heard that if you service the K46 transmission sometime after the first 50 hour break in period, that transmission will last a lot longer. you have to remove the transmission from the frame and drain all the oil. then open the transmission and clean out all the old oil and metal shavings out of the gear box. then reseal the transmission and refill it with a synthetic 5W50 oil which is slightly thicker than the 10W30 oil it comes with from the factory. That should give it maximum torque and longer life. But you have to be a mechanic to do that.
