  • This video illustrates 2002 Mercedes Benz C230(W203) Kompressor HVAC common stepper problem and attempt to fix it.
    This first attempt failed due to the stepper motor level failure, but still the video gives insights about the problem. I am not a mechanic btw so keep up with my slow work... :))
    The second video shows how I finally fixed it in this link here:
    • Mercedes-Benz AC Stepp...
    The PDF files I promised that illustrates how to disassemble the front dash to reach stepper motors are in this link (go to post #18):

    Hope this video helps some people. Give a thumbs up if this has given you any idea about the problem.

    Thank you for sharing the pdf file and your experience. This is very helpful. I really appreciate this video my friend. I wouldn't have known how to fix the clicking noise from my car. And it's summer so my air conditioner will not blow air thru the vents with this problem. A million thanks.

    You dont have to take the dashboard off. Locate sound by touching the stepper motors. Mine was first one behind the radio.

    god bless you for posting the video. this is exactly what i have done, except removing the upper dash is where i cannot find the extra screws.do you remember where they may be? I cannot remove the upper dash at the moment. by the way, when i first saw your video, i thought "HA! there must be an easier way!" to say i am humbled is a grave understatement. thank you again for posting, this is EXACTLY the problem I have. I cannot believe the heartache a clicking noise brought

      Thank you lol, I am glad the video is helpful. Don't forget to see the second part.
      If I am not wrong I think there were screws at the very top of the dashboard, in front of the glass, under small grills. Are those what you are looking for?

    You are at super level. I can't do it. Got mine repaired by a mechanic. I think motor won't spoil if we don't meddle with airflow switch.

    Very common failure indeed.

    omg- That looks like a nightmare. I don't think I have the courage to do all that.... My air bag light is also on now, Would love to know how to fix that myself... Surely it would take so much work to do. Way to go for fixing it yourself though.

    I just went thru it just now on my W209. On mine the lever was chipped on the far left behind the HU it was sitting behind the reinforcement bar. I had to remove the wiper and the front windshield crawl to get to a bolt that holds the reinforcement bar to the firewall. It's a pain in the rear.

      @ibaha411  Před 7 lety +1

      Marco Arellano,
      Please see the description of the video where there is a link that you can find steps of breaking parts apart in a pdf file. In that link go to thread 18 and at the bottom of that threat there are 3 links for pdf files that will help you.
      Good luck!

    Do you need to remove the wiper under the hood in order to access to the bolt for loosening the big metal frame supporting the entire dashboard?
    Or the big metal frame can be lossen just from inside cabin?

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 7 lety

      As I remember, tbh, I cut that metal in the middle in the thin section because it was already enough of it that I spent inside and I didn't wanna go under the hood too, so I didn't really try to be smart on loosening that freaking bolt. I m not sure if it is easy to loosen it from under-hood. But you can always weld if you cut the metal; you can give it a try, if not just cut and weld it back, that was my rough solution.

      @@ahmadmusa55 I know this is an old thread but I'm stuck, I've just removed the dash and everything else and I've unbolted the frame but it still won't budge, I've opended the hood and removed the wiper and wiper motor, there is one bolt holding in two pipes, is that the bolt I need to release?

    Do i have to remove the steering wheel to remove the upper dash board for my 2003 MB C230 coupe(CL-203).Please your view will be highly appreciated

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 5 lety

      You need to remove the steering wheel yeah, if not cut the metal that's holding the wheel (and weld it again). There was a comment about it, either in the comments of this video or the second video czcams.com/video/ex-ENAOW0qU/video.html
      I d recommend you to go over comments. Good luck!

    I should probably copy this here:
    I should have noted that the air bag light turned on after performing this fix because I removed the entire dash(including the passenger airbag) n I started the car to see if the stepper motors n levers are working, n at that time computer realized that there is no passenger airbag n the light/sensor turned on. The dealer said he could turn it off n he would charge me $138 n of course I didn't do that. I should probably make another video on how I turned the passenger airbag light off...

    Well my ac blows hot+cold air suddenly, i am thinking to open the dashboard and keep the actuators hanging in cold mode; as in my country its mostly hot so do i prefer ac mode ON with no heat option. Another mechanic told me to to bypass heater core inspite of opening all dashboard. Please advice will it fix my issue?

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 3 lety

      Though to answer without knowing what the problem is. I am not sure if the heater and compressor can work at the same time, I d first guess your compressor may not be working properly. Then maybe check if you have enough freeon on the line and check the pressure is right, if you haven't.

    • @ZM-cv6we
      @ZM-cv6we Před 3 lety

      @@ibaha411 Well the ac blows cold air that means the compressor is fine! Even checked the pressure. But my question is if i bypass the heater core will the hot blowing air stop. Secondly, will it have any advance effect on the AC unit!
