  • This is the second video of 2002 Mercedes Benz C230(W203) Kompressor HVAC common stepper problem.
    This first attempt failed due to the stepper motor lever failure, but still the video gives insights about the problem. I am not a mechanic btw so keep up with my slow work... :))
    The first video is in this link here:

    Wow what a job, good work! Thank you for sharing ur experience. I have clicking sound in dash but heat and AC work That's a hell of a lot of work, I wonder what a garage would charge to do what you did.

    I have a C320 (year 2000) which has 10 stepper motors (versus 6 on the smaller motor W203 models). One of the stepper motor plastic lever arms developed a crack, as happened to Ismail's car - it cost a fortune of mechanics labour time (relative to the second value of the ENTIRE car) to have the dashboard etc removed just to replace the $20 plastic lever. Now another lever seems to have cracked because I have the problem again. What I should do, it seems, is perform the whole expensive dashboard removal again, and, as a precaution, replace ALL levers on ALL the stepper motors with the more robust ones Mercedes later made, when they realised the weakness. I am not an engineer, but it amazes me that Mercedes, with more than 100 years of car making experience, could not design a plastic lever with the required strength from get go to fulfil its expected lifetime function. I had a another plastic part problem in the electric winder operator that lies in the driver door side - there are 4 switches for the 4 windows, and each switch is secured by the flimsiest little plastic pins imaginable - one broke off on the switch for only one window, and the entire sealed unit for all four windows had to be replaced. These are such bad design problems for a car that's supposed to be robust, and for which one pays a high price in the expectation of a longer lifespan.

    Thanks for recommending the required FIX for the problem. The only issue I have is that it looks like a lot of work to remove the entire dash, etc. so I'm going to marinate on it for a bit....lol Thanks again!

      Dexter Denoon yes it's not difficult to fix the specific broken part, but it's hard to reach there. You need quite a long time or an entire weekend along with lots of patient... hope video was helpful and you will resolve your problem soon... 🙂🙏🏻

    Brave man Ismail!!! thank you so much for taking the plunge. I am looking at doing it now also. Just wanted to make sure before I dove in, the 'Torx' drivers, are they the standard ones or are they the security ones with the little hole in the middle?
    Thanks

    but this only directs ventilation or heat, right? not getting any heat inside the cabin is a different thing such as a valve under the windshied wipers, right?

    My sister has exact same Kompressor coupe
    Same exact problem. We will be taking the dash out our selves. Since its $500 to fix it
    IS there anything else that we need to know? That you might of missed out of this video.
    Please list any input, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
    Perticularly in your initial steps of taking the whole DASHboard out.

      Veyron640, you can check notes I put under the description of this video. For initial steps, refer to the links I gave. There are some links to .pdf files where initial steps are illustrated.
      It's a long process but not so difficult if you are patient. Hope you will figure it out and fix the problem.

    i got a c230 4matic and its clicking / ticking every time i push on the accelerator or gas pedal.... once i let my foot off the pedal the sounds goes away...if i feather the pedal its barely noticeable... My A/C works but recently lost its freezing cold temp but still spits cold ac air, i have feeling its the stepper motor or the vent behind that you pointed out, not sure though but thats where the sound is generating from the front area near firewall...ANY ADVICE OR HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED godbless
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 6 lety

      Jordan I m not sure if your problem is stepper motor. It might be if the lever arm is not fully gone bad that when you push the gas pedal it might be causing A.C. to work harder and force the lever. I d try to see if you hear the clicking when you change the A.C. mode. And the noise quite strong, not a little noise if it's from the lever arm. I d make a short video when it's clicking and post in here, I m sure that way someone can help identify the issue. Good luck!

      Hi Jon - it might not be a stepper motor problem. I had a similar situation, and the problem was the vacuum mechanism (as I recall) that operated the headlights range control. I assume your car is a left hand drive. On the left of the steering wheel, right next to the headlight activation and control dial, is the range control dial, numbered 0,1,2,3. When one changes the angle (range) of the headlight with that control, the actual mechanical movement of the headlight is driven by vacuum pressure from a tube off the motor, which first runs through the range controller next to the headlight switch. A leak developed in that vacuum tube right behind the range control dial, and when I pressed the accelarator it increased the tempo of the "ticking" sound. I had to replace the range control unit to fix it (the whole unit had to be replaced - it operates side windows, lights and range control) - used a second hand one from the junkyard. I've also had a stepper motor problem, and the sound is very different to the sound of the leaking tube of the headlight range controller - the stepper motor is a much sharper sound and is harsher than the "softer" range control sound, and doesn't vary with engine revolutions like a vacuum tube leak would. I had the range control problem for years, and no mechanic could locate it. Eventually I found a mechanic who knew exactly what it was - a matter of more experience and luck!

    İsmail Merhaba, Ellerinize sağlık bu bilgilendirici video için. Benim arabamda da aynı problem (clicking sesi) var. Özellikle sürücü tarafından göstergelerin arkasından geliyor. Benim asıl sormak istediğim konu şu: bu sesle beraber özellikle yazın klima auto modda çalışırken klimadan yanık kablo kokusuna benzer (nem kokusu değil) genzi yakan bi koku geliyor. Bu konuda fikrinizi alabilirmiyim mümkünse? Teşekkür Ederim.

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 2 lety

      Yeni gordum yorumunu kardesim kusura bakma. Yanik kokusu geliyorsa lever degil baska bir problem vardir. Belki stepper motor takildigi icin olmus olabilir ama o durumda lever in kirilmasi lazim benim arabada oldugu gibi. Kusura bakma cok yardimci olamadim.

    Hey, I have a 2004 Mercedes C230 Coupe and while I don't have a stepper motor problem, I do have a low idle issue. When I am in drive at 0mph, the entire car vibrates, but when I park, it stops. I can't find the location of the actuator in this thing cause I have a feeling it might have been slightly overtightened. I tried reteaching idle but no dice.

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 6 lety

      Probably motor mounts are gone bad. If the vibration is for sure coming from the engine (which is evident as you said vibration happens only when it is D) 99% of the time it is related to motor mounts. Check visually if they are torn.

    • @theviralusername
      @theviralusername Před 6 lety

      It stops in park, it also stops if I hold brake and apply the gas while in D

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 6 lety

      Yep I know that story very well, I had the same exact thing in my honda accord two months ago, and I had to replace rear engine and transmission mounts, which were broken. You can just check them first and replace. Not very difficult to install engine mounts, but you would need tools and at least a jack to hold the engine in place from the bottom. If not, you can get a mechanic to get installed. Hope you will find the problem and resolve, good luck! .....I am not a mechanic btw, I am just sharing my experiences, hope it is helpful :))

      Thanks, and yea I've basically been doing minor repairs myself to this thing as much as I can. Brakes, spark plugs, and apparently the trunk button on my remote was disabled with hard plastic (no button on the cover but there was a button on the board). I discovered that today because remote stopped working with the ignition. It does open my trunk, lmaooooo. Dealers were upselling the trunk open button apparently and all they had to do was change the damn casing for the remote.

    • @theviralusername
      @theviralusername Před 6 lety

      and yes I tested the button and it opens my trunk.

    Hello, Can you also show us how you removed the entire dashboard?

    • @ibaha411
      @ibaha411  Před 6 lety

      Sorry I don't have the car any more, but it's not hard to remove dashboard. Start it by removing the transmission box then work your way through, for the top of dashboard there are screws in front of windshield under small grills. You also need to disconnect the airbag plugs on the right hand side, but before disconnecting make sure to disconnect the battery first, otherwise you will have an airbag light on that you d need to erase later on. But if you need to start the car to test stepper motors and arms I would remove the top dash but keep airbag cables connected on the right hand side in a way and test the stepper motors. Also check the links under description of this video, there are pdf files that might be helpful to you. I hope this information helps.

    "m2/16 - left and right defroster flap" ses yapıyor. henüz komple sökmedim. torpidoyu tamamen sökmeden bunun değişimi mümkün olur mu? Instrument Cluster söküldüğünde görebiliyorum motoru.

      Eger erisebiliyorsan torpidoyu sokmeden, lever i degistirmek kolay. 5-6 tane stepper motor var galiba farkli farkli yerlerde. Bu benim video dakini degistirmek icin her seyi sokmem gerekti. Kolay gelsin.
