In this Dye Time, I hand paint a new to me, unusual plant based fibre; pearl! I had some pearl fibre that I decided to spin into yarn, then dye. I used mermaid's dream (fibre reactive dye from Dharma) in liquid form and powder form. I hand painted half the skein and speckled on the other half. This was a very interesting experience and the whole way through, I kept saying to myself "I can't believe this is made from pearl!"
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
