  • I tried to do a lot of research before buying and installing an fcr carb for my drz400sm, and all of the videos showed people having difficulty installing theirs! In this one take video, I'm showing how I set up my install.

    Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I was close to the human volcano trying to get the rear boot seated on the carb. Blood pressure down, carb installed and all is well.

    Your right about the other videos. If you take about 10 15 more minutes loosing couple more bolts the carb just falls out. And u don't scratch up your shiny black frame

    Hey my names zach I love your videos I just bought a fcr39 mc version2 . I installed vacuum nipple on intake using stock peacock it doesn’t leak when off or idle but when taking a quick ride there is some gas that drips down the fuel line from petcock . Let me know what you think I have not have this issue before . Thanks !

    • @DRZWhisperer
      @DRZWhisperer  Před měsícem

      It looks like it's time to do a full diagnosis on the source of the leak. It could be the petcock itself. The diaphragm in those do fail eventually and that causes problems either externally leaking or leaving the fuel flow to the carburetor potentially causing a hydro lock or fuel intrusion into your oil. It's possible that you have a leak at the petcock's union to the tank or even at your fuel line at the petcock. This may be a good time for you to go manual petcock. You can get an OEM e model petcock or an aftermarket replica. You just have to form the habit of turning it to the off position each and every time. Be aware that the reserve on some of these is quite a bit less

    So it looks like you went with the non mx fcr? I was thinking about doing that too - don’t really need all the upgraded mx features except maybe the ACV, that seems like a cool feature to stop decel popping. Not trying to save $$, just like the smaller size and less hoses, etc.

    Is there an easier way to adjust the mixture screw while installed on the bike and running? I can’t find the right method to adjust since there isn’t much room between the carb and the starter.

    • @DRZWhisperer
      @DRZWhisperer  Před rokem +1

      There are a few devices out there that you can install in your carburetor One of them is a remote mixture screw you'll just have to look them up and the JD jetting mixture screw that you can get in addition to a jet kit that is a mixture screw that is extended from the bowl and has a t handle on it that you can adjust while installed probably the remote mixture screw that sets off to the side of the carburetor Is the more expensive option but much more popular

      Thanks for the info! I’m in a similar altitude (600’ above sea level) what jetting ended up working well for you? I have similar set up with stock head pipe but did the 3x3 hole in the top of the airbox.

    • @DRZWhisperer
      @DRZWhisperer  Před 3 lety

      If you live in Japan you should be able to get one from the manufacturer keihin in Tokyo. I live in the states in the central us and I purchase mine from one of the main two vendors here that Supply them. I wish I would have bought mine through the company thumper talk that has a great deal of forums that you should be able to access online for your DRZ.

    • @DRZWhisperer
      @DRZWhisperer  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the question. So far I'm at a 40 pilot jet and a 165 main jet on this fcr 39. So far no pop on d cell and idle is pretty solid I think I will play with the needle clip position soon but right now in Kansas we are in a deep freeze and I don't have an opportunity to tune. Going to try a richer setting first by one clip and evaluate.

      @@vivimu that's the goal. my other video showing my project on my friends build that I did before my engine we both had donor engines that we built to the Moon so that we could go back to stock if we blew them up or something! No regrets so far. I've done a few rides on his bike and it's got the balls! Still going to tune his a little bit maybe with a needle adjustment as well possibly a main jet. Even though it's the same bike and carburetor by numbers they're still different machines. There's no cookie cutter way of doing jetting just because of the same setup.

      Thanks for checking out the video. I would like to remind you to please use appropriate language in the comments. I do not know what air box adapter you are using but it has been my experience that some of those pieces can have an excessive lip on them in which you may need to lightly mill down. It's a dance sometimes and it's all about the angles in which you go at it. I like to drop the sub frame back as I describe in the video and then push the air box boot connection back a little bit as it is flexible (If it is cold it will be less flexible so warming it up in a safe way being mindful of the gas maybe an option) with some force as you get the carburetor into place onto the cylinder head. Now is the time to make the connection of the throttle cables. Once you do that You can raise the subframe up gradually making sure that it makes contact with the air box adapter. If it does not seat properly try adjusting your angles. If this repetitively does not work you may need to mill the adapter on the back side of the carburetor down a very little at a time. I freehanded mine on my grinder and then hand sanded it with a piece of emery cloth to put the finishing touches on it. I know it may not be helpful to you right now however I think I may do a carb clean video where I remove my carburetor from my Stroker Big Bore that I built on this channel and I will show a real time removal land install perhaps including an example of what I do to clean the carburetor. When putting yourself out here on CZcams to share your experience I realize I can't make everybody happy with what content I provide but the positive feedback far outweighs the negative.
