i have bought at very least 10 unusual fruit trees because of your videos, i am at 70 plus on citrus trees (most in pots) having a green house built as i type and will be adding on a sun room, i am hooked on unusual fruits.
oh my god do you have any photos or such recorded you would share? sounds awesome i have been thinking of getting an allotment space in the UK to grow but most have warned me its probably not worth it after rats and birds and the lack of maintenance etc at least in my local area is a nightmare plus the greenhouse built in some of the spaces are just mostly neglected meaning id have to put a whole lot of money into renovating a place. my garden is pretty much no use its pretty small and about 3/10th of it is concrete, we have my nephew we look after on weekends and a waffle of life problems i wont go into that makes it much harder to even think of starting, unless i do a grow in the window type thing but people i see get horrific results and fruit that barely looks appetising, when you see them clementine tree's or chilli or tomato trees i mean plants etc. want to try growing unusual variety's of black grapes but i dont know if UK climate is even worth trying. i may be able to grow em but will they be as good as i get in my local. sorry thats my 2 cents.
Me too. I'm hooked on all these cool fruits and veggies. I have tried at least 8 fruits so far. The world has many things to see and do. I love to travel to these countries and see them in their natural habitat.
@@Dockhead You can try outdoor potted plants or have raised bed planters made for your yard. There are a lot of fruit trees that when grafted onto dwarfing rootstock can be as short as 6 ft. tall. Boyo, you can also get fruit trees that have different types of fruit grafted on it such as peach nectarine, plum, cherry and apricot. In the US they are called fruit salad trees. Depending on where you are in the UK you might be able to grow some of the hardier citrus on dwarfing rootstock or a loquat tree. Loquats are delicious! Start small and work your way up from there. In a half barrel planter you could easily grow a small herb garden sufficient for your needs. When I lived in Army housing I only had 200 sq. ft. of yard with crummy soil. In it I managed to grow a lot of flowers and herbs including a fairy garden with real English bluebells.
That is probably the tikuna variety, which had been cultivated by the Tikuna indigenous tribe. It's cool because the wild variety is smaller and even more sappy. Good job, Tikuna people! And yes, abiu is amazing
@@tanjim305 They grow well from seed. The greengardenguy1 has videos of his tree that has fruited within four years from seed and produces larger fruit than the parent. He also offers seeds from this tree if you are looking for a source.
I prefer these to starapples. Mostly have the same flavor, but with better flesh to weight ratio, and with additional pleasant caramel undertones too. Too bad they're rarer.
I’m really glad you’re re-reviewing a lot of your earlier videos! Those reviews were good at the time but you’ve gotten so much better at describing what you’re tasting, not to mention there could be a lot of variation in flavor from fruit to fruit! You also reviewed a lot of iconic rare fruit in less-than-ideal circumstances so I’m glad to see another go around! Aibu is a fruit I’ve been dying to try! One of these days I’ll track one down, hopefully before my seedling sized trees produce fruit themselves!
makes me think should he actually go back and try every fruit again or at least ones where the preference couldn't be had. i remember some old old ones where he says some of the fruits are sometimes not as ripe as what the locals what eat it as. but its not as simple as that i think. a lot of them fruits he tried in the country at the time of being there, so he would have to travel again etc.
It would be cool if you redo all of your old videos like Pulasan, Granadilla, Lucuma and Rose apple and other fruits with your new camera and microphone!
damn ive just literally responded to someone suggesting the same basically. be really cool but i think it would be a cost too far, as some fruits i think he only reviewed in the country he was travelling in at the time.
That sample of abiu actually looks substandard but it's good you enjoyed it. In its best form, it should look white and slightly translucent with no dark bruises inside like what you had.
Good review this time! So, I don't even really like fruit that much but I love your channel. It's informative and fun. And you have a nice way of talking, it's very soothing. That sounds weird.. but there you go.
This fruit is called Cauge in Ecuador, it a very tall tree, maybe 45 to 50 feet tall. It grows in the woods in the hot and humid forest . It grows in the wild, it is not cultivated in farms.
My friend has a few abiu trees. I'm going to try making a wine or mead with about 5 kgs of fruit. I can't find any recipe for abiu wine so it will be a fun experiment.
We called star apples Caimito in the Philippines. My grandma used to have a tree in her backyard. We used to climb up on her roof to get some fruit. So delicious
Good to see the Indiana Jones of fruit exploration, reviews his own work for quality and accuracy. I cannot wait until this pandemic is over and he goes on some more trips to far off flung exotic destinations in search of some more "weird fruit".
Abriu is really delicious. As you noticed, it sticks your lips togheter. In the old days of Pará, people asked for secrecy like this: "boca de abiu! ..."
I just got one of these in my box from Miami Fruit and I'm excited to try it! I consider your channel an instruction manual on what to do with my weird fruit lol.
Ive been watching your channel for years, its weird to now have suggested videos from other channels basically copying your content. I guess thats just the way of the world, but you must be doing something right to have biters. Keep up the good work!
They call them Caimito here in Peru in the Amazon, I had them in Iquitos, and we're recommended to use a spoon to eat to avoid the latex sticking everywhere, though some people like to not tell you about the sticky latex and then give you like paper towel or paper napkins or even cotton to "clean yourself" and then laugh when it sticks to your face
@@griffinc3263 Pretty sure the variety here is the Abiu, I've eaten them and cut em in the Peruvian amazonian area, they are closely related though, the one here is pretty yellow skin, thick, has sticky latex and big seeds. Oddly enough there are a lot of amazonian fruits that are similar or the same as the ones found in south east Asia, so we share a lot of variety of wild fruit, with some exceptions. One fruit I'd love to see on the show is the Aguaje fruit, a very odd fruit for sure, it's like a big avocado sized seed, surrounded by an oily paste like flesh with a hard to describe sweet flavor, and it's skin is more like small hard scales that you feel off.
If magic happens whenever you chill the fruit then you should also try it the way the Mexicans do with the chile seasoning like salt pepper and sugar it's the next in line for seasoning fruit. Also known as tejin (taheen) It has salt sugar lime Not to be confused with chili powder which has oregano and other herbs
@themooseriverreviewcrew do they grow big? my friend's dad grows various plants and fruits and he tends to bring his plants inside the house of his garage when winter drops, as in the UK we maybe have 5 months of decent growable weather before you get frosty nights randomly just before june or snow in march. darn weather.
Have you thought about going to Miami Fruits location and buying one of every fruit and have a smorgasbord with a couple of friends? You guys could stay in a hotel, get the fruits, share and eat the fruits, and just bascially have a video of you guys discussing the fruits. Unless, you found out you basically already did videos on the fruits they sell in the past. Maybe, just maybe, if you told them in advance that you will be doing a video on all their fruits, they just might hand them over for free since it would be free advertisement for them. Hey, that's the ticket! June, good time to get a durian and cut it while on their plantation or smuggle it in the hotel. Should be named as a Fraction Fruit, since it looks like a division in 3:04 😂

Miami fruit also has pink guavas. You should do a review on one of them
they're veeery different from normal guavas
Ooh I wonder how it would do in recipes.. hmm. Definitely love most things chilled. 😊
The only latex-ey fruit I've had is jackfruit, but this looks like that is more in the rind.
Oooh I'm early. Just wanna say I appreciate your vids immensely, and they inspire me to no end. Thanks!
Thank you for doing what you do.....I'm always looking forward for the review you give of fruits I never knew existed

0:13 Jared sounding like zefrank there.

Did you try the American beauty berry ( callicarpa americana) and the jaltomato ( jaltomata procumbens) ?

Damn he do be eating and reviewing fruit tho
Soooooo good, let’s see what he thinks!
So what's with the intro to Code Blue by TSOL? Does this fruit like em cold and quiet??
That sounds other than the latex part really nice I love that jelly texture
It tastes like caramel custard. I eat them all the time, they are delicious, just don’t eat too close to the skin as that’s the sticky part.
You should call episodes like these re-views or re-reviews or something like that
Have lot of abiu in my plant

isn't unprocessed latex irritating?
Wow, took me this long in life to learn that latex is not a purely synthetic phenomenon.
Abiu fruits can be super expensive and even the abiu tree is also very expensive idk why 🤷♂️
Have you tasted Nauclea latifolia, red African peach?
I don't believe so

Soo... Milk, green grape, honey (rambutan), egg custard, and sugarcane (green?) is the flavor breakdown?
Yep. Its very mild but has subtle notes of those things :)

I was a bit reluctant to try abiu, since I dont like star apples, but I gotta say abiu is quite a bit nicer, although far too sweet for my tastes.
