    Thanks for the video. I'm intending to build a very similar setup, but for micro greens.
    Difference being the medium to grow them in.
    So far I'm unsure what kind of reservoir, pumps, connectors etc to use. But seeing your setup really fires me up!

    I've watched a lot of your videos and I'm really fascinated by this concept. I may start planning my own setup soon

    You could also use one pump and a manifold with multiple tubes (one tube for every rail/gutter). That way you could clean or harvest a rail without disturbing the whole system. Also keep the video’s coming.

    Perfect setup! I have a similar but use touts with rafts. So a thin DWC

    I love your videos and what you're doing. I have been growing a lot of peppers but have decided to move them outside and repurpose my grow rack. How does the spinach do in the 1.5 vs 2 inch net pots?

    Does the effectiveness of the LED grow lights diminish with time? That is does the spectrum of light change over time? I know this was a factor many years ago with incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. Thanks

      @religionisapoison2413 Před 2 lety +2

      It's a negligible variable. Distance from the plant matters a lot. A wide spectrum LED is best imo. This is just relaying info from Jeb the gardener. This channel actually takes a pretty analytical approach which is awesome. Jeb is kinda just funny and a pro so he doesn't really know what people like us want to know and just shows him pulling miracles out of thin air.... Like the dude grew a whole tomato plant inside in the corner of a room.

    Do you have to watterout the plants before eating? Ore is it OK to eat the plants right out from the rail

    If you was going to do it with one reservoir tank, I would recommend keeping two pumps going. One for the top level a 750-1000L/H pump & for the bottom level I’d got with a 500L/H pump. I wouldn’t recommend having the food go to the top level & then feed to the bottom level as both levels will ultimately grow at different rates due to the fact the bottom level will always have a more diluted feed as it gets filtered over the top level first. Although I’m just nitpicking here, it’ll still work fine which ever way you decide to do it.

    I kept staring at the gorgeous green plant in the back on the lower rack… what is that gorgeous thing? Another lettuce type?

    I am of doing a similar setup to yours, but instead I am thinking of using a long flat "under bed storage" box as a reservoir which the rails will actually be placed above (potentially catching any overflow or leakages). I wonder if there is any reason that you put your inlet/outlet coming into the rail from the side instead of underneath? Does it ensure a minimum depth at all times (since the water has to climb up to reach the outlet)? Does it matter that much if you have the right pump flow rate?

    I'm surprised u can have the lights so high w/o the lettuce trying to grow too high. I am working on my second crop of lettuce in the IDOO 12 pod system and it recommends the light be about 5" away but I noticed my lettuces growing high almost looking like they were bolting/starting to flower. I knew they couldnt be bolting this soon(@4 weeks) bc they were so young and also the house is about 72°. The taste was fine its just they didn't have a tight head they were gangly and stragly. The second crop I'm doing now I decided to go with lower/shorter varieties and am keeping the light lower

      I've noticed that lettuce grows taller and "stretches" when it doesn't have enough light. So in that case, yes, dropping the light will help.

    Would this also be considered a NFT system ?? And if it is how does the flow work since it’s on a levelled surface ? I’m tryna make one and I thought it would have to be at a slant.

      It's a film of water. place the outlet of each tray at the height that the water should be at. Liquids will try to fill the container's shape not just fall via gravity.
