This is great! There's a long overdue need for deep explorations into Phils work and teaching other bass players. Because Phil never played the line the same way twice it's really helpful to talk about the modal influences and what modes we can work with to keep it interesting. Nice work! And on another note it would be kinda cool to see you take on latter day approaches to the songs when Phil was on a 6 string - the last 12-13 years of GD music.

This is Best way to teach Phil Lesh stuff. Well, here is the basic groove, now master these scales and chords on the entire finger board and let er rip.

Lesh very much influenced me, big time... although he was often so fakking busy and evasive of simple grooves and avoided root notes on the beat so often, I still see him as an early rock pioneer of bass and dig the creativity....it´s like what made him so good as a player sort of made him bad at times...I guess there is a musical moment for everything., . ...

@@JeffWilliamsGuitar the fact that he was a pianist, not a bass player, has a ton to do with it. Also, amphetamine. :)

Phil is still out there doing it, and his band Phil Lesh And Friends has a more authentic Dead sound than Dead And Company. In my opinion. He's definitely one of the top bassist for me, even though he's not a popular choice.

great timing jeff! a fellow player gave me a bass for xmas this year. never tried to seriously play one. i like your other gd lessons and backing tracks. was just thinking i wish someone could show me what phil does on some of those songs! granted, probably can't play that level yet but the fact i like the music might motivate more or at least give me some insight!

Thanks Jeff! I'm a bass player, but I have used a lot of your guitar baking tracks to help map out tunes I'm interested in learning.
One song that I would love to get a better handle on is Slip Knot. Thank! and Happy New Year!
