I love what Jerry says about electric and acoustic being different instruments. I think this is something we lost track of during the development of guitars, both electric and acoustic, during the 20th century. Rather than explain what I mean by that let me just say I am currently searching for a 12 fret acoustic with bar frets, a long way from my 24 fret Lightning Bolt replica with T frets, that is how I see the difference. Another thing I have started doing recently on acoustic is the old Maybelle Carter thing of tuning the guitar down and then capoing back up, I love it, it totally changes the resonance.

Great lesson! Scarlet Begonias 10-14-83 illustrates building to a crescendo by meandering up the neck. But Sugaree 03-25-85 is more conspicuously emblematic of this technique.

Hi - Thanks! There's a lot to digest here but everything is broken down so well. I'm trying to master the CAGED system but I find it so hard to play the C and G shapes as barre chords. I'm trying but not making much progress. Would it be better to just concentrate on the triads within those shapes instead ?

We need tabs! Or I do. I’m a 25 year amateur who just picks a guitar up for fun every few days. I absolutely love when Jerry plays those fast rocking chords like in the Sugaree from DP3. But trying to figure out what chord patterns are being used on the upper strings is tough for me. Even to learn that trick Jerry did would be great for me. Course i would love to be able to play lead even this well as shown in the video. But clips are very short. I never see people posting videos of an entire solo lead section Jerry did because really it’s just so tough.
