  • "One of the Dead's earliest original compositions, from Fall of 1967, The Other One always rooted the Dead in their exploratory psychedelic roots whenever they played it, including this intense version featuring a wonderful rumbling Phil intro to the song, a throwback to its origins that had been absent for a few years prior to 1989." -David Lemieux

The summer between sophmore and junior years in college, a cute Deadhead girlfriend, enough money and freedom to travel, enough common sense and luck to AVOID the absolute worst, enough innocence and sense of adventure to not EXPECT the absolute worst, a couple of months to read and soak in Alan Watts, and the good old Grateful Dead riding another peak in their pursuit of our passion....It was a grand time to be alive! Man I grew up in a blue collar town. Dead Heads were far and between each other. Never had anyone to tell me about how good they were and explain why..Just heard songs like Casey Jones and Touch of Grey and though it was pretty good but never really grooved with it much..Then I find out most of the time they are frickin just jamming 20 years later and it starts making sense. Not everything is gonna be a well produced masterpiece but when they all find the groove together, it's something special that hardly any other band can touch if they sat down in a studio and produced for months..Insane

So much about this show. I was 20 and I remember we thought the one section was gonna collapse during this other one. We were dancing so hard the place was shaking and there was a huge crack in the structure. JKF was closed permanently after that. Most all Philly shows were off the hook. Went to almost all of them up till 95. Amazing times and music.

Wish I could have traveled with them I was about 19 and baby brother maybe 11. He was the one handing out Cinnamon toothpicks on the field for free. The summer sun looked down on him, his mother could but frown on him,
And all the others sound on him, but it doesn't seem to matter.
And when the day had ended, with rainbow colors blended,
His mind remained unbended, he had to die, you know he had to die.
Spanish lady comes to me, she lays on me this roes.
It rainbow spirals round and round it trembles and explodes.

Comin', comin', comin' around, comin' around, in a circle,
Comin', comin', comin' around, comin' in a circle.
Skippin' through the lily fields I came across an empty space,
It trembled and exploded, left a bus stop in it's place.
The bus came by and I got on, that's when it all began,
There was cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land.
