  • Edelrid Via Ferrata Belay Kit is a combination of:
    - An auto-blocking metal plate.
    - A static rope measuring 15 meters or 25 meters.
    - A rope pouch.
    - A carabiner.
For my case, to make Edelrid Via Ferrata Belay Kit work I use:
    - A Mammut Workhorse carabiner to fix the auto-blocking metal plate to the belay station (usually an anchor point on the Via Ferrata).
    - A carabiner that connects the rope to the belay loop of the sitting harness of the climber that requires assistance.
    - Two more carabiners.
For a three two one pulley hauling system I use either three Petzl pulley and two Prusiks or three Rollnlock from Climbing Technology with no Prusiks.
As a minimum I go with two Petzl Mini pulley and a Prusik.
Of course, all these pulleys require their own carabiners.

Good day everyone and of course JSY. Again, an amazing video, thank you so much! I have just bought the Belay kit as it seems the perfect compromise combining acceptable weight and easy solution to help other people struggling on a Via Ferrata (it could be my wife or a friend but also somebody I cross occasionally on a Via Ferrata). Concerning the idea that sometimes we go out over-equipped my opinion is that: first of all, I carry all the weight myself and never asked other people to do it for me, second, I go out by myself 90% of the times and I can only rely on what I have with me, third, I am over 50 years old the not necessary trained to the best, fourth, I try to push myself to my limits (carefully). So, JSY, I am with you all the way! Thank you again for your precious information.

As you, myself I'm at a place where I want to invest more in living and less in wasting time. As you say, there is no such thing as over-equipped. It is our money, our gear, we who carry that on. But, as you say, not necessarily because we go alone but because it is the smart thing to do, we should not skip on safety if we can afford the investment and make sure we give ourselves as much chance to not get into trouble and go through the experiences as they are easy just because we always been prepared to the degree of never something happening to us.
I've sometimes go on the mountain with random groups. They on easy trails just left so unprepared that it took us three times the amount of time, many times ending up in the middle of the night on the mountain still making our way down to the cars. While nothing happened because it was not that wild and the groups large still, this is not an excuse. I many times seen groups lost and not prepared for the bad scenario. Recently a group that just got lost and kept going without realising the danger of the path they took. They were all together laughing and not understanding that one or two of them would've sprained their ankle none of them would've made it out of there (at most they could've split and leave behind the undead ones but in this case the walking group would've been small and exposed to wild life). I feel not enough educated and too much lived into the city.

I've checked. It appears 9mm. I forced the measure instrument on it, I cannot get an 8mm.
