Faroese man scares Sea Shepherd

  • Legendarily awkward moment from Whale Wars - Viking Shores. The Sea Shepherd activists visit the Faroe Islands to prevent pilot whale hunting, and are welcomed by the whaler Marnar Andreasen.
    Note that pilot whales are not an endangered species, and that the whales eaten by the Faroese makes no difference to the population. Especially compared to the pollution caused by industrialized nations in Europe and North America, which are poisoning the whales.

      Apparently these SS fans never appear to consider the higher number of cetacean and cargo vessel collisions that would happen if the Faroese imported more goods to make up the amounts they get from the whales. Or the amount of diesel that would burn up. But then some of these people clearly think these islands are located near Denmark and are in Europe. This is why they keep sending petitions to both governments.

      Utter crap! The Pilot Whales can only be eaten once a week due to the contamination with high amounts of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and Mercury. With this being a max amount that can be eaten, assuming that it is in fact eaten once every week, it would not make any negative impact on someone's personal wealth, especially given that the Faroese are much wealthier than most people around the world.

    • @Flario_
      @Flario_ Před 10 měsíci

      First of all you don’t eat that much of the pilot whales that it would probably be that much money that you would safe. On the other hand as many of you mention it is only “professionals” which kill the animals and that is why it’s not cruel and because not everybody is a professional I guess you will still have to also buy that meat, right? Or don’t you even buy it and the just present it to everybody because they are not interested in eating it themselves or are just killing too many to eat the meat themselves? It is wrong in any way. And your argument does not make any sense because when everybody should kill animals by themselves because it is cheaper then we would really fast not have any of those animals left. And I guess importing stuff is not only at your island expensive but also in many other islands which do also catch fish and kill them but not those very intelligent and social kinds and they do it to eat them and not as you mostly throw them away.

    Number of sheep killed in middle east and south asia during Eid: 12-15 million
    Number of Turkeys killed during thanksgiving in the US: 37 million
    Number of cows killed yearly in the US: 29 million
    Number of pigs slaughtered in the US per year: 110 million
    Our outcry is inherently based on what life form we find disposable. It's brutal, the killing of 1500 pilot whales, and the statistics above are not meant to justify killings. However, our general human condition is biased on our perspective that is mostly guided by either religion or tradition and rarely on logic and self reflection. So unless, you yourself do not consume any meat, or equally condemn other systematic killings, it's quite hypocritical to criticize the islanders. I don't and even though I find this barbaric and disturbing, I have no moral ground to single out the islanders. If you do, good for you, you're better human than I am. *the stats above maybe slightly off, as I got them from a quick google search. they are there to just offer a perspective.
    However, one important factor that differentiates the grind from other killings listed above, is that pilot whales and such species cannot be control-bred like other land animals.

Moral of the story, it's only bad if the Japanese do it, that's the ideology of your average Anglo person. They don't care about whales being killed, they just don't want the Japanese specifically doing it, which is why Japan only accounts for 10% of all whales killed every year, yet accounts for 100% of all condemnation in regards to whale killing.

    I have a question for you. Are you a professional butcher? Are all those involved in this whale massacre professional butchers? To be clear I'm not vegan. I eat chickens, pork and beef, bought from the store. There are jobs that allow you to do this, for which you are paid. It is a profession that only those who practice it, it is not a pleasure. That's how people end up eating meat. We don't all gather, the whole family, the whole village, the children to gather the animals in a corner and go with knives in hand to kill the animals just to eat them. We don't participate in killing them to eat meat, we don't do a show. We do not take our children to teach them what violence and brutality mean. For us it is a necessity and not a violent spectacle. What you do is not a necessity, but rather a spectacle, and it seems like a pleasure to some of you. Which is not human. Do not excuse yourself by saying that it is a necessity because it is a big lie. Don't call your people and children and the whole village out of necessity. You don't give a show and you won't be satisfied after killing thousands of whales. From my point of view, you have serious behavioral problems in society, you behave like wild people and you seem psychopathic to the satisfaction you have. God left all this to feed us. But not like that, not a show, not violence, not satisfaction. What you are doing is violence, brutality, inappropriate satisfaction, not the desire to eat to live.

They are obliged to take part in such massacres. Everything sounds like a tradition. By no means a necessity as you call it. The need manifests itself in a way totally different from the tradition and pleasure you practice.
