The Bob Barker has a large inboard engine to make it capable of approaching the maximum hull speed for their full displacement hull. It is rated to 3000 horsepower. For a 400hp diesel inboard, you should expect to burn around 30-50 gallons per hour (which is around 1-1.5 tons). Obviously, a 3000hp engine burns way more, somewhere in the rough range of 200-400 gallons per hour, which is around 6-12 tons of fuel. The amount of fuel they burn is insane compared to how many whales they have actually saved.

The Japanese have now stopped hunting in the Southern Whale Sanctuary and are sticking to their 200nm exclusive economic zone and if Sea Shepherd mess with them there they can be stopped, boarded and arrested for criminal behaviour.

I have no problem with what non profit organizations want to do, and there is some level of conservation that needs to be enforced to keep the cycle of things in check, but yeah this show/crew don’t do much to follow through on what’s being accomplished. In all reality, if somebody wanted to get things done, you would have to use Lethal force, and that is a sad truth

Yet the Japanese hit their whale quota every year, all sea shepherd is is a minor inconvenience. I can garentee you the Japanese only chase them or do anything is just to fuck with them because while they are in 1 spot there is 3 other harpoon boats. Since 2019 when Japan left the iwc they officially started commercial whale hunting again.

Sea sheppard can stand by as rescue vessel for japanese crew. Why donate for this???! The Japanese were very tolerant of Sea Shepherd's ridiculous shenanigans, it is indeed in international waters, and the Sea Shepherd team got in a small boat and tried to block one of the Japanese larger ships water cooling vents up, these are basically like holes at the sides of the ship where you see water spilling out, it's basically using the water to cool the ship engine. Sea Shepherd went around one of the ships on a blow up motorboat and tried to block up these holes. The Japanese were very tolerant, because at that point they were in their legal right to actually engage with Sea Shepherd who were literally attacking their ship, however the Japanese chose to just ignore them, it turns our their efforts to hurt the ship didn't work, I think the pressure of the pump just pushed the stuff out that they shoved into the pipe holes.
