  • This Arctic Cat M8000 has a bog issue. Seeing worn out reeds in the engine could be the culprit of your Ski-doo, Polaris, Arctic Cat, Yamaha snowmobile lack of power or engine bog. These reeds on this sled are in bad shape. Let's take a look at them and see what causes them to fail and see how they work.

So this is crazy, but went out for the first rip Thanksgiving day and the thing just kept falling on its face. I called it quits and headed home. Finally figured out that a plastic thread protector from a spark plug got dropped in the air box, sucked through the carb, and was bouncing around in the reeds. If I let off the throttle it would fall back out and it would rip for a 1/4 mile, then it would get sucked up against the reeds again and fall on its face. So frustrating, but an easy fix in the end.

Though unlikely, if I big enough reed flap breaks off, yeah it COULD happen. The most wild thing I've seen is a piece of belt fragments blow and somehow end up in the intake and get sent through the engine, and blow the rod through the bottom of the block!
      Wild.
