Toby put up a great fight despite having a big disadvantage. I would love to see more content featuring toby in the future.

Hello Aylex. Can you do a video on the top reasons why people swing and miss the shuttle? For the life of me, I can’t figure out why I miss the shuttlecock sometimes when I swing directly at it. It almost feels like the shuttlecock is traveling through my racket. Am I swinging too early, too late, using the wrong angle, swinging too fast, or are there other reasons? Especially for smash defense, I know to lift, drive, or block. But still I miss the shuttle when it comes to me quickly. Are there strategies for increasing the likelihood of hitting a fast traveling shuttle? I don’t want to just block every smash because then the opponent will get a slow moving shuttlecock near the net and smash again. Thank you.

It's generally just a timing issue. Remember that the racquet is an extension of your hand, so you have to account for that when you swing. Tips to try are to hold your racquet higher up on the grip for defense. This allows you a bit more time to react and it also makes it easier to swing, but at the cost of power (i.e. shorter lever length - physics). If you have issues on the overhead swing, just remember you need to account for the racquet length AND your backswing (i.e. if your backswing takes half a second, then swing half a second earlier). Hope this helps!
