But Gaga and Ariana made a public statement that they will wear masks because being a singer doesn’t mean you’re on a different level than dancers for Covid.

I believe there was one inside. I worked more on the embellishments of it but from what I was told there was one

Unlike the dancers, performers were not obliged to wear a mask during their VMA performance. Gaga didn't like that and thought it was sending a wrong message that people with a certain power are not supposed to follow the rules. That's why she made sure to wear a mask the entire time even though she was dancing and singing live. Respect.
Actually there's a meme of them after Ariana's whistle moment.. Gaga tells her "You do another whistle note Imma kick your ass, this is my song".
But that's fake. It's not what she said or anything she would say especially being recorded. It would be highly unprofessional. She most likely said something like "Don't forget we're going into the last part now." Because they cut the song short.

@@jasonaspillaga7864 there’s no way rain on me is live. It’s multiple takes. They edited at least 3 takes together.
@@ZacharyJPearse Do you know how pre recorded things work? Yeah they do edit stuffs to make the performance seamless but they used the live audio of them to the performance to put it in one performance. Things are complicated back then because of pandemic but they really sang live with their masks on.

Just so you know, the mask *IS* the microphone and the other one is a prop. She had it custom made, and the LED screen reacts in real time to her vocals!

Fun fact: It was not the first time Gaga performed with a mask she did in Japan in 2011 in a performance of The Edge Of Glory! So yeah of course the message was about covid it was clear but it's fine for her to perform with it she is used to perform with crazy things 😂 even if yeah it must be hard af

I had the same feeling about Rain on me, both Gaga and especially Ariana did colabs before, and I think this is the only one that legit gave me that sisterhood, women coming together, supporting each other to make something great vibe.
I think her hand mic is real (at times you hear the volume of her voice change as she moves the mic) but since the performance was pre recorded, they used audios from different takes. The rest of the performances that night also seemed a bit off and looked like they were lipsync'd because of that, the masks worked great to hide these editing flaws a bit.
I noticed that you started to add short speeches with deep messages into your videos, just like Gaga does with her performances. The few words you left right before the ending of this video just confirmed that to me.

If you look really really close there's a moment where she's singing, and you can see the mask does cover her mouth. It's wrapped right at the bottom of the bottom lip. It's a thinner material, and I don't know how it would stay riding right on the bottom lip, but there it is when she's singing...that one moment the camera goes in.

Unfortunately, there is just only one performance in this era because she is tired. If she wanted to perform pop music she would manage a way to.
We are not aware of the reason, she hasnt released a statement saying she "is too tired" so we cannot assume. It was also revealed today she was in the ICU with a close family member who was dying from covid for months, that may play a part.
