I forgot one of the books I read 😱. I also read Hi I'm a Social Disease by Andersen Prunty. I forgot to mention it because I read it on my Kindle. It's a book of short stories. Some of them had pretty interesting imagery (like a book filled with old scabs) but it's definitely difficult for me to know how I really feel about a writer when reading only short works. I'll read more from this author in the future, I'm sure. But check out the cover of the book, it's really awesome.

You are easily one of my very favorite booktubers.
You should make a StoryGraph account instead; there you can rate in half and quarter stars! And there are so many types of reading challenges, you can make all kinds of lists and TBRs, you can mark books as owned, you can do buddy reads with friends, the stats are much more in depth and you can even add books to the database yourself which is great if you read more obscure books. My favorite functions are the statistics, and the different challenges and ways to keep track of your reading.
I do use Goodreads (mainly to follow authors) but StoryGraph is definitely my favorite out of the two! I’m not a native English speaker and books in my language are not always on Goodreads, so being able to add those books myself is an absolute game changer. Same goes for older second hand books, I recently thrifted a book from the 70s that just didn’t exist on Goodreads so that won’t count in my stats there, but it will on StoryGraph 😜
Btw, you can import your Goodreads data to StoryGraph when you make an account so you don’t have to manually copy everything over.
Also StoryGraph is Black-owned, (not by Amazon like Goodreads is) if that's a deciding factor for anyone reading the comments 😉
The Magic Cottage by James Herbert is my favourite by him, Haunted, The Dark , 48 and The Rats Trilogy are all amazing

Switched to StoryGraph because it’s black owned and not affiliated with Amazon and also just rules! Takes a minute to get used to but you can do much more in depth reviews and ratings which I love. You can also do a buddy read which is fun! Highly suggest!!!
You should try story graph, it’s like Goodreads but better and you can give half star and quarter star ratings there.
I'm with you on the goodreads ratings buy when I write my review I put at the beginning the actual star rating I give it. Doesn't help the overall rating but people that read your review will know

Hello Anda. James Herbert was essential reading for teenagers in the 1980s in the UK! The Fog & The Rats were my favourite. I would also suggest Fluke which is more of a fantasy.
I only read 2 novels in march, which was double I did the month before.
The 1st was The Pact by William Schoell which is about someone making a deal with the devil & dying at Pearl Harbor & his wife tries to contact him from beyond. The villain was the opposite of the one in the book I read before it, in that, I could actually find him intimidating & scary as their are short stories about how his mere presence is tormenting the people of Hawai.
The other was the 1st murder mystery novel I ever read in Say It With Poison by Ann Granger. It's about someone who gets invited to her cousin's daughter's wedding in a rural part of England. When the main character arrives at the gate to her cousin's house, she finds an ox heart in a bag tied to one of the bars & a few days later finds someone nearby dead in his house. I can't say much about it other than I liked the description of the places they went to & that it wasn't who I expected.

The fog sounds similar to the dark by Herbert, there’s a lot of little vignettes of deaths.
I read Follow Me To Ground/ Sue Rainsford. That was really good.
Dennis Cooper yessssss I have all his books The Goerge Myles series is amazing Try and Guide were my favs . I also got Gone which is Dennis Coopers actual journal and newspaper clips and its wild ... Love to hear more of your thoughts on this and I HOPE you read more of the series also My Loose thread by him is awesome too along with Sluts
I highly recommend you to continue reading more from Dennis Cooper, especially the other stand-alone books in the series that Closer is part of. His books are sooo fucked up but really interesting

The lots of ten pages of random people and how they die thing was pretty common in 70s and 80s horror. The point is (or was supposed to be) that it makes the horror more relatable. Like a bunch of people you know a little about dying has more impact than just saying “thousands died”. It most certainly wasn’t only Herbert that did that.
I used to read quite a bit of 70s and 80s horror. I sold an entire wall of it for almost nothing, about 6 months before “Paperbacks From Hell” came out. One of my biggest regrets.
Love the Niles shirt! I agree about the rating system on Goodreads, I prefer the decimals that StoryGraph allows in ratings but still like Goodreads more for the social aspect.

I think you will like The Rats by James Herbert much more. He still does the vignettes of people dying though!
So I'm curious I read The Groomer recently and would love to know if you've read it. It kept me very engaged when the father takes things into his own hands but its also a tough read for those who have suffered from s/a like myself. The ending was the absolute worst.
Creed is one of James Herbert’s best books
James Herbert's The Dark is, pretty much, a rewrite of--and is vastly superior to--The Fog, and is one of my favorite horror novels. It's also one of the few books that actually scared me, so much so that I had to put it down sometimes.
Try Others by James Herbert. I'm reading this now and it's quite good so far.

Simone St James has been breaking my heart a bit lately! I wasn't that big of a fan of The Book Of Cold Cases. Sundown Motel was pretty good. But I LOVED Silence for the Dead, and The Haunting of Maddy Clare. I'm reading The Broken Girls next :D
Anda I just finished the most insane and incredible extreme horror book I’ve ever read, I think I recommended it in another video but you have to check out “Full Brutal” by Kristopher Triana. If you like Gone to see the River Man this one is 10 times better in my opinion. It’s so amazing lol

I read James Herbert's "The Survivor". The way you described the structure of "The Fog" is almost identical to "The Survivor". The titular Survivor is the main character, and he's sort of compelling if you squint, but Herbert does the thing where he's like, here's this person, now he's DEAD. Okay, so now there's this lady, now she's DEAD. I have been told that his most famous novel "The Rats" also has the same structure. It's very repetitive.

I read this one sometime this year! I can't remember which month though. Maybe January? It is tame compared to some of the others I've read, but quite a unique read.

I thought I would finally give Goodreads a try for book recommendations. I rated Stephen King's IT four stars and it recommended me Twilight. I think I'm done there....
I use StoryGraph, I think they give way better recommendations. I feel like Goodreads only recommends popular books, I read exclusively horror and thrillers but I get recommended romances and YA books all the time

Since you dug it i'd recommend checking out Yeager's recent short story collection "burn you the fuck alive", it's inconsistent like all anthologies but its best stuff is on par with negative space
