We must be book twins because I'm always reading at least 2 of the same books with you each month 😅 stepford wives was great! I'm a big Levin fan! Can't wait to add the others to my list ❤

I read House of Leaves for the first time in May and a book called DOPE (it’s a history book of the mexican drug cartel).
House of Leaves is amazing. It’s in my top 3 horror books for sure. I could write a book on what I think it’s really about. I will probably give it a reread in a year or two.
DOPE was super interesting. While it’s not a horror novel, it certainly feels like it at some points. It’s Like a slow motion train-wreck to modern day border relations complete with gory details and real pictures.

Looking forward to your review of The Sluts.
    It’s one of Bookpilled’s S tier books in 2023.

i read 3 books this month (i’m working on trying to read more) which were monstrilio, maeve fly, and chlorine. monstrilio might end up being my favorite book of the year which is exciting!

The cover for The Stepford Wives, looks like the album cover to Dare by The Human League. Jenny Hval is also a musician. I though I recognised her name.

If you're on the lookout for another disturbing book I recommend Full Brutal by Kristopher Triana same guy that wrote Gone to see the River Man.

The Family Upstairs has a sequel called The Family Remains. I haven't read it yet, but I plan to since I enjoyed the first book.

Loved The Family Upstairs and the sequel. I totally get what you mean about Lisa Jewell’s books seeming older when I read her book The Girls In The Garden I kept imagining it taking place during the Victorian era it seriously kept taking me out of the story it just felt so old fashioned 😅

I read a really amazing science fiction book called I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harpman, and it's stuck with me so much that no book has compared since I read it in March. Highly highly recommend. Also, you mentioned Dennis Cooper and I was wondering if you had read any of his other books yet, he's one of my favorite authors

Didn’t Grady Hendrix recently release a book with a very similar plot as The Final Girls?
I just watched someone talking about his new book and it sounds so much like The Final Girls … these girls meet once a year in a kind of therapeutic situation … then one dies… and the others are worried …
I haven’t read either book, but that’s a weird coincidence!

Watch the 1975 version. IMO it is a much, much better film but I would really like to hear your thoughts on 1975 vs 2004 vs book.

    • @BelleMort6
      @BelleMort6 Před 29 dny +2

Agree! 1975 film was fantastic. Much truer to the tone of the book than the 2004 film.

Not sure if you have read these or are taking recommendations. But The Black Farm and Return to the black farm by Elias Witherow would be right up your street. They are more on the Splatterpunk side but they are the best books I read in may

I have been running into some brick walls with books that I have been reading lately. They have been kind of a bore to be honest. Do you have any "bat shit crazy" supernatural horror that you would recommend?

Read the Depraved series by Bryan Smith! It's so fast paced and seriously wild so much weirdness and very gross if that's up your alley! Definitely splatter punk extreme horror so check the TW if you have sensitivities
