  • I read EXTREME horror books for a week and cried myself to sleep
    Hello Creeps! I wanted to film another week long reading vlog where I read a few extreme horror books. I really enjoyed these and Gone to See the River Man really got me in the fall mood. These books varied from intensity from It's Me, Charlie to Talia. But I think my favorite this week was His Pain. Let me know if you've read any of these books and what I should read next.

    I LOVED Gone to See the River Man! I notice with extreme horror books I don't care for the ones that are just about how shocking and gross they can be. I still want a good story and interesting characters, and Gone to See the River Man provided that. So good.

      That's more reason for me to read the book, I'm trying to read horror as I've found that I love the writing technique for the genre and also love the mystery of the stories but I never know where to look to find good stories and not just gore for the sake of it

    Wow… I finished Gone to See the River Man last night and it was so much deeper than I thought it would be. I expected a straightforward and violent extreme horror story but shit got DEEP. I’m still processing how I feel about the whole thing but I can def say it’s super unique and unlike anything I’ve read so far. Very impressed and can’t wait to dive into more Kristopher Triana stories

    I was blown away by how much character development Kristopher Triana managed to get in such a short story. The twist definitely bothered and disturbed me because it hit too close to home but I thought it was a very good and complete narrative story. I had a hard time figuring out how to rate it because the contents bothered me but the writing was well done, so I split the difference and gave it a. 3.5/5.

    • @AndaKent
      @AndaKent  Před 8 měsíci +8

I'm currently reading Hidden Pictures by Jason ReKulak. a recovering addict gets hired to babysit a sensitive boy. He draws pictures that get more sinister and detailed :o not bad so far. id also recommend Perfect Nightmare by John Saul.

    "His Pain" intrigued me so much, I actually bought the book digitally and read it all in one go with this video still open on another tab. Having read so many horrible things on the Internet over the years, I don't really get disturbed by descriptions of physical violence or gore anymore, so the aspect of the book that really surprised me was how psychological and philosophical it was. I don't want to spoil anything, especially since this book is so short, but as you said in your review, that one paragraph really makes you stop and think. It's hard to recommend this book to anyone, but this story is definitely more than just shock value for the sake of shock value. Thank you for making this video, I'm definitely subscribing and will most likely be checking out more of these messed up books in the future.

    Love your channel! I want to preface this by saying I'm not here to try to get you to change your mind on His Pain. I actually went to pick up a copy of it because of your review. Enjoying both the read and the message you got from it is totally fine! I just wanted to offer a different perspective on a specific topic in the book. As someone who is recovering from post-concussive syndrome and (ironically) who worked on biomedical devices to help people with head injuries, I thought the message in His Pain about the woo-woo treatment was questionable. At least where I am in the USA, people with head injuries or related neurological issues are often told to just "try meditation and therapy" instead of getting proven treatments or medications. This is because medical systems want to make money, and the most profitable thing is surgery. Most treatments and medications are not nearly as profitable. This is partly why I went into my line of work to begin with. The woo-woo thing is a focal point of the book, and the author didn't offer any nuanced takes on it. I wish he had since gotten philosophical about other things.

    The way you described how you enjoy the wording of some of these books really compels me to recommend "The Cipher", by Kathe Koja; I just finished reading it over the week, and it definitely should be up your alley. Kind of reminds me of something Clive Barker would write, but more "poetic", I guess. Hi Anda! I read Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates based on your recommendations. WOW I feel like I needed to thoroughly scrub my brain after that one! 10/10 for absolutely disgusting me and creeping me out! Funny this is I read Gone to See the River Man right before and I was more horrified by by Zombie 😹. Anyways, love the vlogs as always, take care ❤

    You should try Thomas Emson's novella Ironbones. Short, sharp, shock. Blistering pace. Gory but quirky. He's an established horror author with quite a few action-horror novels to his name.

    Youre right about the bear over mountain lion. Especially depending on the bear. Idk its much easier to get bears to leave you alone then mountain lions. Those animals are scary.

    I have had the same experience of thinking I am reading something illegal too. I had exquisite corpse on audible through my TV the volume was on 9 it came to a part that I panicked thinking my neighbor's heard it and would call the authorities on me. The TV got turned to 5 instead...lol😬

    You should read ''suicidas by raphael montes'', Realy good book! I dont know if theres any english translations yet, But i realy recommend this book ! Its extreme, really extreme....
    The title would be suicidals in english, but i dont really know if there is an english version. I think its the type of book you would like because its... well, i cant find words to describe it .... Its about a group of teenagers that are planing to commit suicide and the book goes back and forth between the mothers of them in a police station and the teenagers in the past going to commit suicide. This isint a spoiler at all!!!! The book tells you this in the back cover!!!!

    I'm wondering if at some point you could make a video recommending extreme horror books that don't contain upsetting sexual content? I'm a big horror fan and am curious and want to get more into extreme horror books but every single one of them that I've come across always has extremely upsetting sexual scenes involving pedophilia or rape or whatever that I just don't want to read about.

    • @AndaKent
      @AndaKent  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Totally understand. Yeah, most of them are sexual in some way but the more I read, the more I'll be able to recommend specific categories. I'll keep you updated!
