It's been years since I read it, but regarding BF, and I forget where I got this information, the book is playing with the philosophy of Descartes. Descartes' famous sentence "I think, therefore I am" is, Descartes thinks, self-evidently true. It's the only thing that Descartes can't find reason to doubt - in fact he thinks it is impossible to doubt - and as such it becomes the first principle of his philosophy. On top of that foundational truth Descartes attempts to elaborate a whole philosophy.
So what if we replaced that sentence with another sentence, and one that is unspeakably horrid? And what if that sentence was foundational and some poor guy had to build a life, a sense of self, on top of it? That's what is going on with the narrator of BF, and that is why the narrative keeps collapsing and contradicting itself. He has to posit a world in which that sentence makes sense, but nothing coherent can be built on such a foundation.

I might be reaching, but the most famous Paul and Linda I can think of are Paul and Linda McCartney. Both are well known to be vegan/vegetarian, and that last quote about calling ourselves "we" makes me think of "we are what we eat." Maybe that first book is simply about the meat industry?
Fun fact: Paul and Linda McCartney guest starred on an episode of the Simpsons, and they agreed to it as long as Lisa Simpson became vegetarian.

    This may be a STREEEEEETCH
But is seems like the first one is about a thought and then not being able to forgive yourself for having said thought.
Paul being the person who fell into the idea, and Linda being a person trying to pull him out of the obsessive thought.
    At least from your summary.

It's definitely something else, that book. But it's also the kind of thing that was written in a snit. The author, Samuel R. Delany, was like, "this is what you homophobes and bigots think we are, so try this on for size, ya jerks!" And that's why Hogg starts strong, but after a while it kind of runs out of steam, although it recovers a bit at the end.

Again, I will reiterate the point I have always made about extreme horror: if you cannot be arsed to write a content/trigger warning at the beginning of your book, then don't bother. It's not hard and refusing to do so only makes these authors look like whiny edgelords who can't handle criticism despite the genre they write for. Most of these books feel like they're trying to impress me with how shocking and gross they think they're being. Like, do they want a medal for writing mediocre gore without plot books? Fanfiction exists, I can read that shit for free and with warnings. >_>
