thank you Dr Fung from South Africa. what is your take on cruciferous foods like cabbage, mushrooms, broccoli, etc? i've stopped taking insulin, although i take metformin. with these foods i could feel the difference in my health. i think i might have LADA diabetes, because i don't gain weight, but i lose it in wrong places: my legs, butt and arms, and not my belly.

Do you feel weak as a result? stay away from carbs and sugar and eat lots of protein and veggies, like cabbage, spinach and broccoli and follow up with exercise. i promise you'll feel a big difference. it might be your pancreas is not producing enough insulin to convert the carbs into energy.

These drugs are just masking the symptoms not treating the root of the problem..It’s like taking pain killer for an achy tooth instead of finding the cure and deal with once and for all. Just take it out and stop masking the symptoms because it will keep coming back.

Dr Fung, you saved me from years of agony ahead. I did a routine blood test in February 2021 and my Fasting blood sugar was 14 and A1C was 9.5. My doctor immedietly prescribed pills for me to take after each meal. I was reluctant to take medication and i was just going through You tube to look for suggestions. God directed me to you so randomly and i got hooked on to your videos about reversing diabetes and weight loss. I did not loose anytime to start intemittant fasting and got on a low carb diet. 3 months later, my A1C is 4.8 and my fasting blood sugar is 4.5 and i have lost 30lbs. You are the most genuine doctor i have come across and you really care about the well being of humans. I am so grateful that i came across your videos and wow your advice has changed my life around. I had diabetes type 2 for almost 10 years and recently my diabetes starting to get out of control with my Metformin medicine and my A1C continued to go higher to 7.2 three months ago. My family doctor told me that this is my family doctor told me that I have to stay or medicine the rest of my life and there is not way to reverse my diabetes. Three months ago, I decided to take my own risk without my doctor support, I stopped taking Metformin and start one meal a day intermittent fasting for 3 months. I took my A1C test again and it’s down to 5.2. When this happened, I told my family doctor that I stopped taking his medicine 3 months ago. He went silent and didn’t know how to respond to me when I broke this news to him.

@@Peoplespilates How do you know her daughter is "fine?" You don't! Toddlers do not drink a lot of water because it tastes like gummy bears. These symptoms should never be ignored. Ever! She could have type 1 Diabetes mellitus (T1 DM), an autoimmune disorder, can also be idiopathic, resulting in low insulin production caused by antibody destruction of the insulin-producing beta acinar cells in the Islets of Langerhans of the pancreas. She could also have Diabetes insipidus (DI), which is completely unrelated to glucose and insulin but with the same symptoms of polyurea and polydipsia. In Type 1 and Type 2 DM, increased urine output is PRIMARILY related to renal excretion of excess glucose. In DI, increased urine output is most often the result of decreased levels of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), known as Central diabetes insipidus, but it can also be the result of the kidney's inability to respond to ADH, known as Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. There are genetic and acquired causes of both. If left untreated, the end result is coma and death. The bottom line is, 1) NEVER GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE and 2) NEVER IGNORE POLYUREA AND POLYDIPSIA, ESPECIALLY IN A TODDLER.

      Mercy Asare the fasting is a must, but you can do it in a number of ways; either fast for 18 a day, that is eat at say 5pm and then don’t eat again until after 11am the next day; don’t snack at all! All this isn’t easy to start, but persevere; after 11 you can have say a lunch, or just push through again to dinner time at 5pm; when you eat, the ratio of food types should be 70% fat, 25% protein and only 5% carbohydrate at most! You do not need carbohydrates...eat plenty of vegetables, the greener the better, or salads like rocket, spinach, cress etc also the greener the better, and try to have oily fish such as tuna or salmon twice a week; the veg and salad contains both potassium and magnesium which are vital for proper liver function and blood sugar control; the oily fish is good for your heart and contains important nutrients;
You can do the 5-7 diet where you eat normally for 5 days then fast for two, but I know less about this.....

First protocol for different fevers is fasting. So that explains the importance of fasting.

I’m a diabetes specialist dietitian and I’ve taken a full listen through. The premise is well thought out and the science/theory is sound but there are some things that need to be added to this message to make it more robust
    1) everyone needs to know that if you regain the weight lost - you WILL have active type 2 diabetes again
    2) exercise was sparsely mentioned - exercise also plays a key role in reducing insulin resistance - for those who can’t exercise, fasting with support from a professional (preferably a dietitian), is an option
    3) human beings were created to be very active - so if you’re not making time for exercise outside of your usual regimen it will add to your insulin resistance
    4) your diet MUST change ! We all eat an enormous amount of carbs in the western/ African and Asian diets - and last time I checked it was carbs that raised blood glucose levels significantly
    5) more fat is not the answer especially if you’re eating a lot of saturated fat - let’s look at portion sizes first and look at optimising your plate
    6) lean protein and increasing your muscle:fat ratio has proven metabolic benefits - this was not mentioned
All in all this is a very powerful programme but more attention needs to put towards what people’s lifestyles look like outside of fasting, are people exercising at all, are they watching portion sizes? Are they relying on the medication to do the job of lowering their blood glucose ?
As always with a condition like diabetes it’s about empowering individuals to make long term changes to lifestyle
Fasting is a very intense therapy, I’m personally okay with it but can our patients maintain such a drastic change over the rest of their lives ?
Management of diabetes is fairly straightforward it’s staying motivated to maintain changes that remains a problem. And individuals with diabetes have to ensure they’re engaging with the right professionals to support that. If you’re worried about diet and weight speak to your dietitian, worried about medication speak to your doctor or nurse. I’ve seen so many people go into remission and improve their lives with the right information and support

Been diabetic for 23 years. Have eaten strict keto (25 carbs or less per day) for 5 years. Have done 15 seven day water fasts and everything in between. Still diabetic. A1C is/was about 6.2. Didn't lose weight. Been doing carnivore since January of 2023. Looking forward to my next A1c on April fools.🙄👍 That being said, I will NEVER eat outside of carnivore (mainly) or keto. Well done for being so disciplined, I really admire you. Do you put this down to genetics? However, there must be an answer somehow to get you and others to reverse diabetes.
I hope in your fight you find the combination that gets you there to a 5.0 A1c - I’m assuming you have already tried using all measures: cinnamon, bitter melon, berberine daily in addition to keto/fasting/exercise?

Your HbA1C is in the pre -diabetic range. It needs improvement. You may have Hypothyroidism which is preventing from the expected weight loss. You may confirm it by testing TSH and Free T4 . Another reason may be that you are taking enough calories to sustain body weight. You should take reduced calories (500 less than required) to help your body to burn out the same amount. You may get explanation from Dr Fung's another video.Intermittent Fasting (16:8) daily is better than 15 days water fasting,I think.Blessed be.

Thank you Dr. Fung! I was prediabetic for 10 yrs, severe diabetes with A1C 11.5 3 yrs ago. Dr. said I was going to have kidney and liver failure in 5 yrs. Eating fairly healthy with insulin dose going higher and higher! Lantus up to 25 30 units, with 2000 mg metformin. Nothing was working. Watched your video a week ago, went off meds, water fast 4 days, low carb last 2 days, blood sugar 5-7 AFTER eating now. Unreal results and no more meds! That was in just a week. Thank you for your common sense explanation and practical advice. I have a new outlook on life now. Going to continue the 4 day fasts until I can drop another 15-20 lbs and low carb it. I will keep you posted! I can't express how much gratitude I feel for you putting this out. You have opened a new door of hope!

After having a bowel resection due to an obstruction after multiple hernia repairs, adhesions, & mesh issues, I decided that when I was able to eat again, I would do the Atkins diet to lose weight. I got off the diabetes meds and got my A1C down to between 5.0 & 5.4. I lost 160 lbs, but gained 60lbs later when I had pain issues from many back problems and arthritis. I had also gotten back on too many carbs. I have lost half of the wt. I gained back now, but it is much harder these days. My dad was diagnosed in the 90s. This was the exact treatment he got until he was insulin dependent and needing heart surgery. They had him eating small meals all day and keeping soda close if his sugar dropped. Wish I could have helped him back then, but your methodology is keeping his son from suffering the same fate. Thank you, Doctor Fung. Much love from Cali 💙💪

Dr Fung, thank you so much for this lecture. I must say I was happyy to use this to guide a friend used this infornation and it helped a friend with a newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes. His blood sugar was 30m.mol. and following your advice he gradually came off medication. He followed every step of your advice. Now for the last 6 months he has been off medication and his blood sugars are below 7m.mol. Mostly at 6m.mol.
The principle we took from your advice reduce Insulin by not medicating. So we used exercice and eating when feeling hungry. Initially we used medication, exercise, strict meal times, and diet. Then when blood sugar started going low we stopoed medication gradually, used exercise and diet. We stoooed Metformin and Gliclazide. Since stopping medication 6 months ago the sugars have been 5.8 - 6.9 m.mol. I recommend people to take this advice seriously. My friend is now a happy Tanzanian man

I have struggled with weight loss for 10 years. I have been hovering around 300lbs for 10 years… I have seen doctor after doctor, I have an active lifestyle walk or ride my bike 20 miles a day… On july 7th of 23 I went into the ER after weeks of very frequent urination, my blood glucose was 712! I was diagnosed with diabetes on the spot. I suspect I’ve had this for a very long time. I have cut down to the absolute minimum of carbs I can tolerate from day 1 of my diagnosis, and when I do have them its typically vegetables, nuts and seeds, or dairy products. I was recommended to watch you by a doctor friend of mine who works in a rehab clinic that my wife works at. I don’t want to get on insulin and I will document my journey and keep in touch with my progress. I am 35 years old and I truly believe in your work because my friend has used your method to success with her patients and I trust her. Thank you for making this available freely.
