Very Easy Furikake

  • VERY EASY FURIKAKE (Episode 107)
    I’m the Snack Hacker, demonstrating fast, easy, innovative ideas for tasty bites.
    The simplest of dishes, just a plate of cooked vegetables for example, can be so richly enhanced by sprinkling something nice on top. Furikake, a Japanese condiment, is one such thing. Here’s two ways to make it an easy way and a REALLY easy way that’s a bit of a cheat.
    Method 1
    INGREDIENTS:
    6 tbsp white sesame seeds
    4 tbsp black sesame seeds
    2 sheets nori seaweed
    Big pinch of salt and pepper
    Small pinch cayenne pepper
    Sprinkle of Demerara sugar
    METHOD:
    Toast the sesame seeds in a dry frying pan. Crush or grind the nori seaweed into a rough powder with some big bits. Mix everything together.
    Method 2
    INGREDIENTS:
    1 packet sesame snaps
    1 sheet nori seaweed
    pinch of salt and pepper
    small pinch cayenne pepper
    sprinkle of Demerara sugar
    METHOD:
    Crush the sesame snaps into a rubble. Crush or grind the nori seaweed into a rough powder with some big bits. Mix everything together.
    Also, big shout out the Catherine Phipps who’s amazing book MODERN PRESSURE COOKING taught me how to make cabbage like that as well as so many other invaluable lessons. Get a pressure cooker and get Catherine’s book.

    I got the 'modern pressure cooking' book that you showed a few times on your channel. Use it all the time now particularly for chinese pork belly. Cheers for all the tips.

      @@georgeegg2 Yeah we've had a pressure cooker in the cupboard for years unused. Growing up in the 80s my mother taught me that pressure cookers and deep fat fryers were close in danger to Soviet nuclear weapons. Now I'm happy to whack the pressure cooker out a few times a week. Still won't go within a mile of a deep fat fryer though.
