The game begins with Claire Redfield raiding an Umbrella Corporation facility in Paris in search of her brother, Chris. During the infiltration she is captured and imprisoned on Rockfort Island on the Southern Hemisphere. Soon after arriving she is knocked unconscious. After coming to, she is freed by Umbrella security guard Rodrigo Juan Raval who releases her from her cell in the aftermath of a T-virus outbreak on the island. Trying to escape from the contaminated island, Claire teams up with inmate Steve Burnside, at the same time being confronted with the island's commander Alfred Ashford. Alfred Ashford is shown to be a highly unstable character who has developed two personalities; himself and his twin sister Alexia. Meanwhile, Albert Wesker is on a mission of his own to retrieve a sample of the T-Veronica virus developed by Alexia. His unit is also responsible for the outbreak of the T-virus on Rockfort Island.

I remember when I played this game for the first time at the Sega Dreamcast console, RIP MY Dreamcast AND Rip Steve, It is not only impossible to kill Steve here, even rocket launchers and linear launchers also do not affect him. Poor Steve, could express their love on the go, but their love did not pass away. I am waiting for it's Remake

Meh!! Did you try killing Nosferatu with the knife? That's a royal pain. Killing him with Alfred's Sniper Rifle is easy. All it takes it is 3 perfectly aimed bullets.

Her voice echoed back at her, full of tension and fear, but Steve didn’t answer. There was a thick metal door to her right, different than the others, reinforced by bands of steel. She opened it, stepping into a small, bare room that opened into a much larger one.
“Steve!”
No answer, but the bigger room was long and dimly lit, a kind of huge hall, and she couldn’t see what was at the other end. She saw that there was a suspended gate between the small room and the hall, which definitely gave her pause. She looked around and found a piece of broken wood on the floor, then wedged it between the outer door and its frame, not wanting to end up locked inside.
She hurried into the giant hall, intimidating, oversized statues of knights lining the heavily shadowed walls, her anxiety growing with every passing second. Where was he, why had he screamed?
She was halfway down the hall when she saw him, slumped in a chair at the far end, some kind of restraining bar across his chest.
Oh, God…
Claire ran, and as she got closer she could see that the bar was a huge ax, a halberd, the blade firmly entrenched in the wall next to him. He seemed very small and very young, his eyes closed and head down-but she could see that he was breathing, and felt less anxious.
She reached his side and pulled at the giant ax, but it wouldn’t budge. She crouched next to him, touching his arm, and he stirred, opened his eyes.
“Claire!”
“Steve, thank God you’re all right, what happened? How did you get here?”
Steve pushed at the long ax handle but couldn’t move it either. “Alexia, it had to be Alexia, she looked just like Alfred-she injected me with something, she said she was going to do what she’d done to her father, but she was going to get it right this time-”
He shoved at the ax again, straining, but it wasn’t moving. “In other words, she was whacked. I guess she and Alfred were pretty close after all…”
Steve trailed off, his cheeks suddenly flushing with color. His hands started to twitch, his body trembling.
“What is it?” Claire asked, afraid, so afraid, because his body was hunching over, his fingers clenching to fists, his eyes wild and terrified.
“Cuh… Claire…”
His voice dropped an octave, her name becoming a growl, and then he was writhing in the chair, his clothes ripping. He opened his mouth and a liquid moan came out, frightened at first but then angry. Furious.
“No,” Claire whispered, started to back away, and Steve grabbed the halberd, wrenching it out of the wall, standing up. His body continued to hunch over, his head dropping down, muscles rippling beneath skin that was turning a gray-green. Spikes rose up from his left shoulder, two, three of them, as his hands elongated, as a giant, bloodless wound grew across his back, as his eyes turned red and animal.
The thing that had been Steve Burnside opened its mouth and screamed, enraged, and Claire turned and sprinted away, sick with loss and fright, running for all she was worth.
The monster came after her, swinging the massive ax, the sharp edge whistling through the air. She could feel the wind from the swinging blade and somehow found more speed, her legs pumping, pushing her faster.
The monster swung again, hit something, the sound vast and deafening. Faster, faster, the small room just ahead-
-and the gate was coming down, was about to lock her into the hall with the monster, how, didn’t matter, she had to go faster still or she was dead-
-and with one final, brutal push, Claire dove for the shrinking space between the bottom of the gate and the floor, sliding in on her stomach, the gate crashing closed behind her.
The monster roared, began swinging the ax with abandon, sparks flying as it attacked the metal bars. In shock, Claire watched it break through three of them, bending the steel by the very ferocity of its blows, before she realized she could get out.
Door, I propped the door open, she thought dazedly, and stood up, took a single step toward her escape-
-and then something broke through the wall with a crash, not the monster, a thing that wrapped around her like a constrictor, lifting her, another of the tentacles. The monster continued to hack at the metal, it would break through in seconds, and the tentacle had her tightly in its rubbery grasp.
Awakened from her daze, Claire beat at her captor, pried at it, but the matter was impervious. It simply held her, waiting for the monster to breach the gate.
* * *
It wanted to beat her and cut her, it wanted to rip her apart, so it slammed the weapon into the bars over and over, and finally, there was a hole it could pass through.
She was making noises in the grip of the thing that held her, gasping noises that made its blood hot and excited, that made it raise the ax, lusting for the end of her.
It brought the ax down, hard, remembering what he’d told her, promised her-
-you can get the next one-
-I will-
-and it, he, stopped, the blade almost touching her skull. The tentacle waited, gripped her tighter, and he remembered.
Claire.
Steve lifted the ax again, strong, he was so strong, and slammed it down into the tentacle, slicing through.
In a spray of green fluid, the thick coil snapped and hit him in the chest, throwing him into the wall before retreating. He felt and heard ribs break, felt the boil of his blood cooling, felt his strength going away.
The pain came, sharp and dull and everywhere, but he opened his eyes and she was there, she was safe, she was reaching for his hand. Claire Redfield, reaching for his hand with tears in her eyes.
* * *
The monster was gone.
She reached out to hold his hand and he lifted it to his face, to his beautiful, dying face, laying it across his cheek.
“You’re warm,” he whispered.
“Hang on,” she said, pleading, the knot in her throat choking her, “please, my brother came and he’ll take us with him, please don’t die!”
Steve’s eyes were fluttering, as though he were trying very hard to stay awake.
“I’m glad your brother came,” he whispered, his voice fading. “And I’m glad I met you. I… I love you.”
On the last word, his head fell forward, his chest falling and not rising again, and then Claire was alone.
Steve was gone."

There are a few characters where people say they are annoying but I don’t really see it and Steve is definitely one of those characters. But you’ll also have people like you who really love the character and appreciate them in whatever story they are in.

At first I thought he was annoying until. Then I started to see to see the good in him later on
I feel like Steve would have been a 14-15 year old instead of 17. He was very ambitious and capable and able to deal with immense horror and loneliness, yet he projected sudden outbursts of angry awkwardness instead of breaking down/ actually being humble with Claire even once. Idk, maybe teenagers just behaved differently in the 90s.
In DC I find him more soothing. He's terrorised and constantly blabbers nonsense to prevent himself from panicking. He's also actually nice and wants to be meaningful to Claire.
@@satyakisil4289 He is more softly spoken and sounds more like the near-18-year-old he should be. Not that the previous VA didn't sound like a kid, but the voice he used wasn't the best for him.
Steve's mutation looks like a mutant Incredible Hulk with an axe. This scared me as a kid and plus was hard to dodge his attacks until I figure it out to trigger him then move away then escape quickly. Tbh I like this boss fight because the music.
After that, it's scary he wasn't recognizable to Claire while he's a monster then finally controlling it and realized her but after all the tragedy I didn't get how he died? I figure it out, It was that thing attacked and stabbed him through and saddest thing he dies but least get to see his parents up in heaven or hell I guess but yeah it was crazy and sad at the same time.
the way he slowly rises with a axe in his hands, along side with the ost and the camera moving, and the door slowly closing, leading into a arena between them both is absolutly terrific, terrifying and epic, the only problem is that we can't kill him.
At the end of Code Veronica Wesker says he is taking Steve with him for further experimentation. Wesker died in 5 and we still don't know anything about Steve since then. Capcom completely forgot about him.
Capcom tends to forget characters that only appeared once in a lot of their games. Rebecca, Billy, Carlos, Helena, Steve. So many were straight-up forgotten because "MAIN CHARACTERS HURH".

I remember this game. I used to think it was absolute crap. I couldn't get anywhere, I couldn't fight properly. The controls were difficult and the camera was absolutely horrible. But I stuck with it. And something remarkable happened. I got used to the controls, the camera and the bad combat mechanics. Suddenly, I got good at the game. And that's when I unlocked my ability to appreciate the game for what it was.
This is one of the best RE games I've ever played. It scared me absolutely senseless, several times. But I got through it. Beating the game, it felt as if I had actually been through it all myself.
People who say that this game is bad, don't deserve games like this. Steve's voiceacting wasn't the best. But his character arc was on point. And I guess he reminded me a little bit of myself. So when he transformed, not only did my heart skip several beats. I actually cried.
Bad games do not take you on emotional roller coasters. They don't challenge your skills, your intellect or your moral grounds. Bad games don't scare you or put an imprint on you for life. They don't push you to become better or teach you anything valuable.
Good games do. To me, this was a good game, and it always will be.

You got one thing right - the game is crap. because of the gameplay. Terrible enemies, constant annoying backtracking, RE0 levels of bad inventory, and Steve, just an all around terrible character.
I remember that the first time i played this i wasn't even ten years old, there was no possibility to search for the solution so easily like you can do today.
And every time i got here i started shooting plenty of grenades, explosive arrows, shotgun shells .... Everything. And i didn't realize why it didn't work out.
Same. I even saved my B.O.W gas rounds for this since I heard that there was going to be a "boss fight" with Steve lol.
I actually fairly new to the game franchise but I like them so far. I’ve played code Veronica and RE1. I’ve looked up tutorials on both because I can’t stand how long the games take to finish. I don’t mind the puzzles but the one thing that deeply annoys me is the door opening sequence. I get that it’s supposed to create suspense and mystery but the door opening sequence alone accounts for a decent chunk of the games.
@@chris7285 well, they're actually disguised loading screens for each of the rooms. You just gotta deal with it.
Also, since you're new, i'm giving you the advice of avoiding RE3 remake. Play the original on pc with the hd mod, you'll thank me later and safe yourself 20 - 60 bucks.
However, absolutely get the RE2 remake. Even though it has issues as a remake, it is 100% one of the best RE experiences ever
@@mynameisharry8739 disagree on not playing the Re3 remake especially now that's it's around $20-$30. I barely remembered the original after many years so the remake was very fun on it's own while having good replay value. Of course if they had more time we would've been blessed with more bosses to fight and more areas in general, especially for Nemesis to stalk you in.
After playing the original again, the extra areas and action set pieces were phenomenal. The random spawns were highly creative and changed up the way you walked out of the first fixed camera. Many areas should've been included in the remake.
However Nemesis is the main attraction, and is far more annoying than scary. The random point blank sprints into tracking running attacks while your character is still in an animation is not fun. This is worsened by the random direction of the fully vulnerable dodges that can lead you right into his hands.
The remake handled the mechanics of fighting early Nemesis far better from that standpoint, he's naturally faster and does more damage but never makes you feel like the game is playing you. Obviously this is a byproduct of current generation Miyazaki influenced action games that educate rather than frustrate.
Both games are absolutely worth a play at current prices if you bring an open mind

Damn I remember this fight on day one back on Dreamcast, nobody knew you were supposed to have healing items before entering this room, lots of folk were seriously pissed by this as they had to reload the save.
At least they reloaded. There are a lot of idiots on the internet who talked shit about this game just for that part of the game and how they lost their weapons and they didn't even reload the save lol

Veronica X is already a remake itself, plus it was done so that players who played this particular RE for the first time would have to start all over again for any choice or boss fight. To those questioning if mutated humans in resident evil can return back to human form (like Saddler or Krauser), this video confirms that they do return either by wil or through death
It depends on the patogen they were infected with, i highly doubt that Birkin or irving could ever return back to human form

Code Veronica is the best RE ever IMO. Can't believe how underrated it is. This might also be the darkest and most disturbing resident evil scene ever... I love it ❤️

I recently did something different it took me like 20 continues (really...) see this is my first playthrough and didn t have enough health, I actually realized I f.. up in many parts of the game lol (1 red+green i already used and 1 green+blue wich is actually useless) so I loaded a prev saved game with Chris right after he gets the serum (thank god I saved game) put the shotgun, granade luncher, shotgun shells, in the chest..then went to save Claire..then long story short...I shoot that basterd with everything I could while walking backwards, step by step...then after like 20 shots I turn around, run and escaped. What a pain in the a..!!

You *have* to take 2 hits and burn healing items when running away from him I can't figure out how to avoid taking damage there.
I know the video is 60fps but the gameplay was 30fps, you can use CZcams Playback speed to 0.25 you can notice it's 30fps because 60fps is more smoother.

Leon should be in Steve position and died in RE CV, but Capcom changed it and made Steve because Leon is the fans favorite, too bad the man that Claire loved with always ended up dead, like in RE REV2 Terrasave Niel also mutated and died after we killed him, so Redfield bloodline is doomed

Steve is still one of my favorite RE characters because of how real he was. I feel like if you put any dopey, happy go lucky, overconfident male teenager in Steve's situations they'd act the same way he did.
I hope if veronica gets a remake they'll change his ending or at least offer multiple ending like re1 did
Fun fact: Steve was actually slated to be Leon, and this game was meant to be the original RE3. Ergo, Leon was supposed to die off and his story was meant to end there, at the 'third sequel'. However, plans got changed and here we are. x)

I got to the gate without using health what I did was shoot Steve with the grenade launcher and take two steps back or sometimes one step and keep shooting him he hit me once which helped me out and got me closer to the gate I shot him 22 times then turned around and ran to the gate which was really close I lost all my grenade ammo but I made it out
So there's really no way to fight him huh.

Anyone else think Capcom based Steve on Jack from Titanic? He does look a lot like young Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s a young pretty boy who meets a girl and falls in love with her and dies saving her life. The game was released a few years after Titanic became big so I wouldn’t be surprised.

i didn't like steve for the game too reckless, but this moment he didn't deserve this
So Claire can get shoved by a tentacle and live, yet Steve in monster can't. The game developers must've hated him.
Steve was also infected by the C-Veronica virus, which was going to kill him regardless if the vine hit him or not.

It should have been Claire who fights and kills Alexia, not Chris. She has a personal vendetta against her for what she did to Steve, it would have been more dramatic. Chris’ final boss should have been Wesker instead. Hopefully in the remake they could have separate campaigns for each character with that.
