Weirdly it looks like the AntiCheat driver could actually used to make cheats really easily.
Aka. "I used the AntiCheat to destroy the AntiCheat"
Best comment! Lol so true.
@@fox2code It would be ironic if a cheat used the anticheat to load the cheats.
@@ZZ-pq6ht well... it's client-side software. If you can bork it, it can lie to the server it's working properly. It's a silly thing to try to put trust on the host system to report it's clean...
@@fox2code that's what I was thinking. from the bit of extra information he gave it sounds like this driver would be perfect to build a cheat around. You've got your kernal level memory editing and more, it's signed and legitimate piece of software.
I wouldn't be surprised if you saw this being used as part of a commercial hack for other games. I'm going to have to look into this more because this could be hilariously bad for other anti-cheat systems.
Worst of all is: Whoever wants to cheat their gacha pulls can just play a self-hosted instance and be happy about it, since it's mostly single-player and whatnot. They could use any less intrusive anti-cheat if it's just to put their minds at ease.
where did that grass cutting machine go?
Its finally here
The anti-cheat is not to protect the gacha, the gacha is server side for it to be compromised the entire server-side structure potentially needs to be compromised too.
The anti-cheat is there only to prevent the user from modifying the client code, with client code modification it is possible to have infinite energy and 0 cooldown, teleport directly to chests and open them, and I don't think much else aside from that, most of the game data is server-authoritative.
Also bypassing mhyprot2 is not hard, the game doesn't even seem to give a fuck if its running or not
@@figloalds ik what you mean,
you can get it playing under wine after bypassing
I love when gamers say "You're too paranoid" when defending corporations.
That's how we got here with garbage DRM, microtransactions, etc.
People mocked paying $2.50 for horse armor in Oblivion years ago. Now?
People are happy to pay $10-20 for a skin in a FPS where you can't even see yourself. Companies hiring people who know how to manipulate addictive tendencies and instead of blaming the corporation for all that they blame people with gambling problems
Denuvo is now muscling it's way onto Switch apparently because "Oh it's not that bad" was said for years when it was just on PC. The DRM that eats up a chunk of your PCs performance- that companies denied and it's been consistently shown that when removed performance goes up by a measurable amount. And now it might be put on some games on the Switch- as if it didn't struggle with some games enough
Companies keep lying to us and people keep defending them or saying it's not so bad because, for some reason, they'll listen to a corporation who's sole goal is money instead of people who have seen this happen before or actually know what they're doing.
And here we go "it's for security" ...yeah, THEIR security, not yours.
Ehy does this sound like Madden... lol
as long as they can get profit who cares about what people say if people stopped playing and numbers starts going down they might give two or three things for free and after noticing that their games started dying they will start taking action but you know i know and also the companies know that people will not stop playing nor spending
YOUR SO RIGHT ABOUT FIRST PERSON SKINS. I understand spending money on skins if you can actually see them, but in the games i play like apex and cod you cant. Even in games where you see them you barely focus on it while playing. I have not spent any money in any of the games I play at all. Im fine with the free stuff and I take advantage of using prime for some of the free stuff
Well, Russia and usa will trade nukes soon. It will be great to wipe this world clean
@@crossbolt27salt88 No idea, I know people get mocked by having default skins in games. "You're poor!" or you the defenders say "You gotta support the game somehow"
Then give me something to spend money on that matters.
This seems to be a trend a cross a few things since my brother at his job gets asked frequently "Why don't you have an iphone".
And it's like, what do I, or you for that matter, need the latest iPhone for? You browse instagram & facebook, you don't need a $1,000 phone for that.
So not only are companies a problem with this but people push FOMO a lot too
Lol, my mind read the title as Muta being wrong. So I clicked faster than my brain processing the actual title. Staying because.. well.. it's Muta. I don't even care about half the things he talks about. His rants just fill a very specific void in my life.

I wouldn't say virtualization is foolproof. There's been plenty of times where malicious code broke out of containers before including with KVM.
5:20
The reason its incredibly solid is because most viruses work on only the computer they landed on which means most of the time the extra layer of defense prevents it from getting into your main PC. Also a VM nets you ALOT of tools that can let you clean wipe it in a matter of seconds since its a separate instance you have full control over so besides the extra layer you also have more options to deal with a virus in a VM.
@@videogamerNattie98 and plus it has to be a very special virus to break out of a windows vm and infect a linux host system but even if you run linux you have to be careful what you run
@@eiboeck88 The point is while no defense is gonna be perfect unless the thing your dealing with is specialized in taking on your exact rig your not defenseless.
You could call these exceptions to the rule.

If people only knew that the driver from their razer mouse could potentially be more of a threat than anything else.
pls explain
are you talking about razer synapse?
Omg these bots 😭
Imagine using a razer mouse, I use laptop touchpad 😎💪
Only for a local attack if somebody has physical acces to the device
To be honest it's inevitable that something like this would happen
having anything run as root creates a massive attack surface, it's inevitable that someone finds a bug in the anti cheat to exploit.
I just started on my cyber security classes and it’s cool to be able to understand what muta is talking about
*Looks for a video to listen to, while running the Genshin dailies*
The video:
This a good topic. I am an avid Genshin Impact player, but I'm also very careful with everything that I execute on my computer. Almost all software I install come from Steam, Microsoft or Adobe.
Please get in the car sir, hands behind your back
Same,i haven't downloaded anything off of the internet in like years, all i download and install on my PC is from "trusted" sources such as Steam,Epic and so on,even Genshin i downloaded form Epic not off of the internet tho that's a whole different thing since oyu download the installer first, point being i too stay away from untrusted sources and while i've only had to deal with ransomeware once in the past(was so dumb i could get out of it and unlock everything alone so it was a pathetic attempt on their side) i still take precautions cuz hey you can never be too safe imo.
I’m a little more careless
Sure I google to see if the site I’m downloading from is safe or not (it took me a while to see if vimm’s lair is safe, because it looked suspicious at the time, but after a while I got used to the looks of a site from the 90’s and it’s my go to rom site) and I check the url to see if my connection is secure so what I’m downloading is actually from the website, but still sometimes I don’t even research.
Don't torture yourself, play anything else but that
Just a question, but how grindy do you think genshin is? I heard it's a nightmare
It's always a good time when I catch Mutahar early.
i find it interesting that these games all have these kernel level anti cheats that run completely separate from the game checking that nothing is modifying any parts of the game or packets or whatever mean while servers in minecraft like minemen club run with completely server side anti cheats that are so good at picking up anything from mild movement modifications to slight inconsistencies in clicks meaning it is extremely difficult to bypass while no ac is actually present on your computer
And then there's hypixel "watchdog" that teleports you if you dare to jump onto a carpet
@@AkkoGaming watchdog is aids i swear people lag back less when hacking on hypixel compared to playing legit

Well that was very informative, and a wee bit scary.
I will definitely check thrice.
Thank you for your hard work, Muta.
Man I just love watching your videos on random topics, from tech to games to etc
If i understood correctly. If a driver is signed, windows will give kernel level permission WITHOUT PROMPTING THE USER. Is there a reason for this to be the way it is? I dont think its ok to give permission to something even if it is signed and not malicious if the user doesnt want to, after all it is the user's computer so the user sould hace the choice.
that's just how drivers work
it needs root access in order to work
There's no GOOD reason, that's why it's seemingly universally disliked.
There's a whole rabbit hole regarding game companies collecting user data and interactions for AI research - But that doesn't even cover an explanation for this level of access, since most game companies collect user data without needing anything outside of the game engine itself, let alone system drivers or kernel drivers.
It really boggles the mind how many software companies think they own your hardware though.
@@alexandergreene461 windows could offer a "remember for this driver" checkbox.

The only thing I worry about hearing this is if running any game that uses easy anticheat is better off not on my PC and if I should Uninstall. I think the only thing I have is MultiVersus but it makes me feel like I should just leave it strictly to my Playstation for that and not PC. Feels extra to worry about that but at the same time if it's root really goes back to them fixing their system to not let this happen I'm a bit afraid of it in general until they do so. Warzone has one of the worst anti cheats. Hey Muta could you do a video on how Blizzard Activision doesn't ban blatantly cheating "Pro" warzone streamers. I would love to see your insight into these streamers who play tournaments and win big amounts of money while the anti cheat avoids them completely. Guys/Gals, its a good practice keep your gaming vs other stuff isolated. If you don't want to have 2 separate machines (1 for gaming and 1 for work), then have 2 isolated installs of windows on your system (1 for gaming , 1 for other stuff) . For example, some people have 2 SDD/HDD, and you can choose which to boot off on startup, and block the other drive or even unlplug its power so it cant be accessed. Also, some USB3 SSD drives are fast enough for running and OS, for example on your main system you can have windows, but have a usb 3 SDD with a Linux for non gaming.
As an alternative, have your non gaming stuff run in a virtual machine (eg VirtualBox) that is stored on the USB 3 SDD. (Most people wont be able to virtualize their gaming due to GPUs are not easy to virtualize without some work.)
Don't bother trusting antivirus...
Assume everything is malicious or has bad flaws (maybe non-intentionally); But still be able to enjoy everything.
Happy computing!😀

Perhaps a proper AI driven server/userspace anticheat is necessary. Preferably open source for better security.
Open source and companies go as well as bread and motor oil
Companies HATE to make anything about their products open so i doubt something like that will ever happen unfortunally
i've always thought in this day and age, server side anticheat should be really easy to do, i mean, if a server reads obvious things like a player flying or taking 0 damage that should be an instant and permanent ban, no questions asked, no negotiations, too much of a punishment for "false positives"? fair enough, have them instantlt suspended then and have a human, not an AI, analize the case, it should be a no brainer most of the time if it was that blatant, but of course paying someone to enforce the anticheat eats the profits so just install EAC to keep investors happy
@Watcher You could say the same for operating systems, yet linux is the most secure system.
@@sheshin These edge cases can indeed be handled rather easily.
Some other things can't be done with server side alone unless some heavy hitting AI is behind it. -> wallhack etc.
The client needs the information where another player is before a potential encounter. However this means the information is technically there to be seen, which is what people exploit.
For a long time, games would just send these positions all over the map, which is obviously bad, but these days proper games only send the info when 2 players are close to each other.
There is however still the small remaining bit that either the userspace variant or the server side variant needs to handle.
@@09f9 just sad to see only this being pursued. Well there is valve, but they are the masters of doing everything at once and therefore never doing it 100% :/

I do not open any files or download anything out of the ordinary. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary and my computer boots up fine.
Genshin themselves won't give you this bad driver. If you download something that has this driver in it then it could theoretically modify genshin's anti cheat and then mess with you that way. Just watch what you download off the net pretty much.
