The fact that Riot is working AGAINST virtual machines shows just what they think about privacy
They simply don't care about privacy discussion. Their focus is on game security.
@@omteria8726 Riot Games uses Hardware ID bans. So if you get caught cheating once, you're prevented from playing with the same system again. This was the biggest issue for cheater-packed games for years, because without that, people just developed or used cheats, while once being banned just firing up another copy of the game (e.g. other steam account, that's why csgo is full of hackers). If they'd allow playing in a VM now, hackers could non stop be cheating, because once banned, just install a new VM with different Hardware Settings and go again. Hence, banning VMs is absolutely fine out of a Anti-Cheat perspective.
@@omteria8726 Bro, I share your privacy concerns and you are absolutely right with those, but again, I was explaining that riot games (or any other serious game dev company) focuses on game security and integrity, not in privacy. Also what you stated is not correct. They are not taking a hardware ID given by the OS, they are generating their own, based on their own algorithms (something like GPU VRAM, Amount of Ram, Serial of HDD, etc). So it doesn't matter if by replugging your GPU windows assigns a new ID or not. Microsoft License System with it's keys is completely different and has nothing to do with hardware. Their AntiCheat works, as even the cool guy in this video said.
But let me ask you one more thing. What's the issue with ring0? Tencent (or any other government) is already able to get all data they want, even from withing ring3. What is the benefit for them to have a kernel module? In the end, they are interested in user data, and these are the same with ring3 or ring0 access?

you only need "powerfull" hardware to run a vm, i think it is possible to do with a 4 core, if you run a minimal linux distro with a minimal windows iso install, chris titus has a guide to do that. and Muta has the guide to vm, i suggest trying linux mint in virtualbox on windows, to ease yourself to running linux
@@Mathias-bz2kr Linux isn't quite there yet for the average user. I loved using it for browsing the internet or working on school assignments, but to play video games you need too much voodoo for it to be at all feasible for the average smoothbrain like me.

Finally got all this working on my machine, thx for the big "BOOT LOOP" mention thing, I didn't even realize I was on kernel 5.8 (I was of course confused why I was getting a boot loop lol). Still have issues with audio thru pulse, so I use my ps4 controller as a headphone jack lol

They are probably detecting Windows as a Hyper-V domain 0 VM, hyper-v makes the "host" a VM as well, it's just in a more privileged position to control the hypervisor, and that's what the games see.
The patch would be to disallow hyper-v entirely (including WSL-2), which would release the ire of a lot of gamers who are also developers, which is a pretty significant overlap.

Well, this doesn't make any sense since the game will be installed inside the vm, and the anticheat cant read info about the parent windows, so even if the child vm has hyper-v disabled, there's nothing they can do

Imma remember this video whenever I get my pc this summer.
Since Hyper-V is a type 1 hypervisor it can protect the kernel from many sort of intrusions and guarantee system integrity from threats originating from the hosted OS, as it runs with privilege levels lower than the kernel. However what's happening here is that kvm is allowing HV to manage its own VMs, parallel to itself, so taking control of Hyper-V from within kvm (the host OS), is still possible. The main reason that these anti cheats don't flag you is because virtualizing a Windows installation with Hyper-V is pushed by Microsoft as a legitimate way to protect the OS from many kernel level exploits, which is true if it runs on bare metal (not this case). Either Microsoft got really good at hiding it, or the anti cheats just had to allow it given how widespread it is.
So this might be a viable reason to get Windows 10 pro?
