    I feel like there’s absolutely no downfall in learning how to alternate, but if you’ve played for many many months only single-tapping, alternating is extremely harder to learn. One of the main problems people say alternating has is not being able to stay in rhythm, but that’s just the learning curve imo. Maybe it’s just personal preference, but I believe alternating is overall better 👌

    I'm one of those people that have been single tapping my way up the Osu difficulty, however I am now stuck because I can't do streams. My plan is to go back to the very beginning and start with easy songs and forcing myself to alternate, to then eventually get back to the level I am at with single tapping.

    • @CodecFTW
      @CodecFTW Před 6 lety +48

      MeowSaysMe Unfortunately
      , i have the same issues especially with 200+ bpm I single tapped from 4 years but then when I started playing 5* and higher and those tech maps it’s really difficult to keep up with the bpm with single tapping and it’s really hard to maintain consistency and stamina as it’s really exhausting to do a 4-5 min map with like over 9 AR+ and 200+ bpm some parts are extremely hard to keep up with especially the triples on curves as you really have to start those triples and double bursts with your dominant finger so yeah, in conclusion alternating is a must if you wanna go on high levels of this game , you have to do it all over from 3 star maps up again and it’s gonna take a while.

Also, I love to think that my fingers will actually be equally trained. Which is not the case with pseudo alternating. For example, starting a stream with the weak finger is a bit harder for me. I just started roughly two weeks ago, first began with clicking with my pen, then I hovered and singletapped, then I disabled my mouse keys and kept on singletapping and when I was getting into the "normal" maps I began alternating and for me alternating is much easier. It feels as if I have twice the time for each note and now I started deleting one-star maps.
    If I'm able to beat a harder map of the same song I delete the previous difficulty.
    The learning phase was five minutes, because I was still on easy maps.

    Single tapping is useful for starters. But the problem as the map goes harder and faster your single tapping skills is at disadvantage due to either can't catch up anymore. That's the reason alternating should be learned early, same as single tap if you want to train both type of tapping.

    im a mania player but ive been trying to learn how to be more consistent at alternating in standard for a while now, and something ive noticed is that playing more handstream/generally dense stream maps in mania helps a lot with gaining consistency in tapping in standard, i still normally singletap because i dont have too many issues with finger control or stamina, but i have very bad raw speed so i can only singletap up to 220bpm, so playing trilly mania patterns often helps me a lot with getting accuracy on streams and jumps too fast to singletap

Other people will require many hours to do one of or both of these things. Personally I single tap almost all maps, but have little issue full alternating if I feel like doing so. Just my own playstyle as a beginner (like 1.3 million rank)
    I believe the best way to Alternate is to hold down the button you pushed regardless if it is a singletap; therefore, when you need to jump, you just need to alternate to the other finger whilst letting go of the already-pressed finger. This emulates single-tapping on both fingers; however, this style is mostly applicable to low-star beatmaps. When doing bursts, it'll often be easier to mess up due to the shittapping of not building a conscious 2-tap switch or 3-tap switch or even 4-tap switch or even letting go at the end of a burst where you move onto a slider.

But idk if I pushed myself too hard or I have bad wrists but quickly, as I progressed to high 3/low 4 stars, my wrists started to develop some problems. That's when I decided to learn alternating. My suggestion to you, if you have the same issue I do, is to alternate. It helps in the future and doesn't strain your wrist as much. Also, try to not tilt your wrist upward 90 degrees, try to do the opposite.

I naturally was only single tapping until I got to bursts and streams but the fatigue was just awful and there were maps where I just couldnt single tap fast enough. I wondered if I should start practicing alternating. By sheer coincidence this video comes up in my recommended box and after watching I decided I should approach this "hybrid alternation" playstyle. It was a serious struggle and it was only up until around August I got alternating down and I could even do long jumps while alternating. Of course naturally id get better over time, but as I was practicing alternating, my skill and accuracy was sky rocketing. In a matter of just a couple of months I was at like 400k and then I hit 200k. Now having this playstyle more polished, Im only 4k from being a 5 digit. So I credit this video to vastly helping my improvement and overall enjoyment of the game. So for that, I must thank you :)

Problem is my middle finger get's tired fast so I have to alternate to rest it half way through if there's not a lot of smashing parts where I have to alternate. I lose track of how many taps I need to do if I start fast tapping parts with my pointer. Another problem I have is I can't figure out sometimes how many times I have to tap when a lot of circles are stacked, most times it's only 3 times but when it's more than that and they start to create a line across the screen I just start spamming without knowing how fast I should be tapping.

    I would say as a full alternate player, alternating is also much harder to learn triples and streams.
    This is because single tappers just keep clicking the rhythm they did before the streams and when streaming they just alternate fingers with the exact same rhythm of their dominant finger, so it is very easy to know how to click twice as fast.
    However for alternate players we don’t have a finger for speed reference, we just have to click what we think twice as fast alternation would be, which is pretty abstract.
