I found the best way to use the dualshock 4 for osu is to use steam input to map the left side of the touchpad to a mouse region, basically turning into a mini tablet, then edit the controller config with a text editor to allow you to set the horizontal and vertical to negative numbers, then play with the controller upside down using your right thumb. You can actually play hard maps effectively that way. Not quite as nice as the Steam Deck trackpads though, given the ergonomics of an upside down controller is tricky.

The hard part of alternating for me is when there's 2 separate bursts stream, i always messed up because theres a second of a stop and my rhythm is fucked

One thing that's rarely mentioned: full alting tech maps is very, very satisfying. It's a feeling that's specific to full alt, quite similar to how you feel when you start properly reading patterns or hitting jumps or streams. Your brain will tingle

i dont even know why im not improving anymore, i can stream 240bpm 7* streams and do 8* jumps yet i go to a 5star map to fc and i miss on the slightest change of rythm

Dude. Idk what the heck my problem is. It's just NOT coming off that pedestal. I've looked all over the room for it. It just isn't working for me. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've tried the Unrelenting force shout, I've tried fire arrows, since they make an explosion upon hitting something. Nothing is knocking that sucker loose.

As some dude that switched from roblox funky friday to osu mania and has been playing mania for 5 months, I can do like 3.5 stars and probably 4 stars if i really strain my fingers.

ive been an alternating player almost as long as i remember and i kinda have to disagree on this one, alternating makes you fatigued faster because of overuse where if u single tap you use ur wrist more than your finger to push down the button which makes you less fatigued. i remember choking cuz of fatigue in sendan life cuz i couldnt tap as fast, so now im trying to learn how to single tap unless necessary

Only a 3-4* player here, but decided to try alternating rather than single tapping today and I'm so used to doing it single tap I can barely do a 2* lol so if you're going to alternate do it from the start or you'll be like me

Membrane wont mean you are shit i have a 300pp play and use a membrane it isnt that much but good enought to call my self decent at osu and i have tried mechanic keyboard and trust me money isnt the problem my membrain keyboard is 100€ i could have bought a mechanic one with that but i just dont like them becouse they make a lot of noise. mechanic keyboards will raise your skill gap but not your skill level if you are at 65k-45k i think you shold invest in one though ( dont buy a mechanical keyboard expecting to get instant 30k+) it wont happen only think that can make it happen is you playing osu and getting better at different skills like speed streams and bursts + jumps. So have fun!

I don't think hybrid is even necessary for players who learned alternation very early, like me. I would actually have to think of not alternating during jumps.

do you think its my membrane holding back or i didnt have the skill to do streams that are above 200bpm? low bpm streams like 120-130bpm that require finger control i can hit them comfortably (basically i know that i didnt fingerlock when doing streams) until 200bpm

some maps have shit rhythm that doesn't really replicate music which irritates me

i alternate depending on the bpm. Anything lower than 220, i single tap. I can alt tap any bpm but i get lower accuracy

I started with mouse for like a week max, I don't really remember, then I started Z X and I just *always* alternated , never singletapped, until I tried it today, had misses I never had with alt, and fatigue, didn't hit ez notes sometimes, but mostly not that bad tho, I'm just going to stick with alt A D

ive heard many people say that alternating is very hard but for me its the other way around, single tapping is so difficult for me i am constantly and only alternating D:

usually I will alternate on sliders so my main finger does the slider and I leave off on the non dominant one , for jumps I will just use one finger or if I'm losing pace I'll occacionly hit the second to catch up for the lack of speed for the first finger, when it comes to going into a slider if i notice that it would start on my non dominant finger than i will just tap one extra so i break alternating but i get the favorable stream setup, and for streams just alternate

I started the game up, wondered why there were 2 buttons to tap, looked it up and found out about alternating, and I was like hey it would be cool if I just full alternate from the start and so that’s just how I’ve always done it. And because I did this from the start there isn’t really any cons because it’s just normal to me and I don’t have any difficultys.
