    Lay the driveshaft on the table and support the yokes then strike the yoke. I worked at driveshaft shop for 7 years and that’s the method we used, always freed them up.

      I am willing to try anything. I don't really mess with driveshafts that much. Would love to see that technique.

    Last year mid may on my way back to Lake Tahoe from Florida I stop to get something to eat in Oklahoma . When I came back out to my truck Put it in drive and I guess The U joint Froze up on me I just about got the truck around the corner to a mechanic shop That was close So I had to get a room for the night . Just my luck They were predicting A tornado to come through and Storm chasers stayed in the room right next door to me . Their truck Had all kinds of protective Caging around it and I said to myself, This can't be good LOL I had my truck fixed first thing in the morning and got the hell out of there. Thumbs up for the video mossman

      They can squeak for a long time but eventually they will fail without lube. I have seen the storm chaser rigs on tv. My luck is bad enough so I am not going to go chasing tornados.

    I pull off all the new caps put grease in them to keep the barrings in place if your ever under the truck and bump a cap off it will save you and it just comes out the fitting

    When I did the rear U-Joint on my Yukon, it was the first time I'd done a GM steel driveshaft. I'd done Jeep axle shafts, Jeep drive shafts, and GM aluminum drive shafts. The plastic retainer caught me off guard. I'd been hammering the crap out of it trying to get the U-Joint to budge. Decided to heat it up to see if it was just rusted in place, then the plastic started to flow out of the injection holes and I was dumbfounded. First I'd seen like that, It was easy after that and the best way I found was to just heat the driveshaft up around the outside until all the plastic flows out and they come out easy. I actually think its a neat idea to hold the caps in and if I had a way to do that myself I'd do it with the replacement joints.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety +1

      It would be much easier to just remove a clip than heat plastic. To me it's like way over thinking a solution.

    • @DanielPace92
      @DanielPace92 Před 5 lety

      @@mossman381 True, but on the manufacturing side it's actually pretty innovative. All you have to do is get the joints pressed in and take it to an injection machine and you're done. Or better yet, have the joints pressed in and on the same machine have arms come over and inject the plastic in one station. No fiddling around clips.

    Just did mine on my 02 Dmax a couple of weeks ago. There were literally no bearings left in the cups lol mine went in real stuff too... what I did was grind down the c clips a little so they weren’t so thick. That did the trick and they move nice and freely now.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety +2

      Some taps on the yoke is all you can do. They will loosen up as they move. I am not sure I would be modifying the clips.

  • @fallenskyshomesteadingandp2528

    Ok I just took a good look and mine are facing the front diff. And the back one is facing the back way. I didn't do the install I was on the road when I had them changed but I did grease them just a minute ago. Great video

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety +1

      Yup, front one on axle side and rear one on transfer case side. I swapped the front joint around. I think I can grease the back on the way it is but I think you will have more room on the t-case side.

  • @philipwick5406
    @philipwick5406 Před 5 lety +1

    You can grease them with a grease needle for your grease gun. That’s what I use on mine.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      I prefer to use a grease gun coupler. They just seem to work better. And I have to change the head on my grease gun which is a pain.

    Awesome video! That helped me out before I started on mine, gave me a idea on what to do. I put mine in a press and had to use alot of heat to get the old ones out. Definitely a pain. But didnt take me to long. Thanks again!!

    I’ve used so many of the moog ones in both shafts. Nothing but problems they seem to work for a few house then go loose , look it to my buddies garage he ordered gm ac Delco and been good for a year and half

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety +1

      I have links to the AC Delco stuff but couldn't wait to order them. Had to get the job done between snow storms.

    • @chachifeere
      @chachifeere Před 5 lety

      Ya have to do what you have to do , that’s just my experience.
      Keep us updated with the ones you put in. I don’t know if it’s the cups being different sizes or what not. They would go on tight but then after a few storms the u joins would come lose on the cups. Like the bearings fall out .

    • @chachifeere
      @chachifeere Před 5 lety

      The ones from gm dealer are like 80-100 each side. Compared to 40 at Canadian tire or car quest

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      I have had the shaft out and swapped the front joint around. So the grease fitting is towards the axle. The back is still pretty stiff. This is after doing a bunch of plowing. These Moog were $18 then I get a 25% discount.

    I'm hearing the moog 330-A is the proper ujoint to use on the 2002 2500hd rear shaft! Would this be correct or no? Thanks......or the 295 moog works just fine?

    At 8:35 you start pressing in the U-Joint, but it appears you do not use the included C clips. At 13:34 you discuss how important the C clips are. So now I am confused. I came here seeking advice on the C clips but you didn't even use them. So could you elaborate on the use of the C Clips? Why did you not use the C clips when pressing in the U-Joint?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 3 lety

      The clips are very important unless you want your joints to fly apart. I put them in just didn't show it. I didn't think showing me putting in a clip was needed. It would have just made the video longer for no good reason. They aren't hard to install and there is no technique that needs to be used. You just push them in place.

    Would those be Bush-Wacker fender flairs on your truck, ifso would you know the part/model of the flairs? My trucks a 02 2500hd. Thanks......

      I just went with some cheap flares and they are cheap. You can get the Bushwacker flares. You will pay more but they are a much better quality. amzn.to/3gnTOOW

    And it blew off lol that was 12 years ago I learned a thing or 2 since

    do 2500hd 4x4 silverado come with 4.10 rearend gears? and can the differential bolt right on a two piece drive shaft from an extended cab longbed 2500hd thats 2wd ?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      They had 4.10 and 3.73 gears in the 2500hd trucks. The diesel trucks got most of the 3.73 gears. The easiest way to tell is the codes in the glovebox. I am pretty sure a 2wd axle will work in a 4x4.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      This one came out but I have had one that was sticky. If you pull the rubber seal back away from the transfer case you might be able to spray some blaster in the splines.

    If something is hot you can use pliers to hold it 😂😂😂😂. Don’t worry about greasing them. Your last ones lasted 260k miles so these don’t worry about greasing them

      Are you talking about the rust? This driveshaft isn't even that rusty for Wisconsin. You must live in Florida or something.
