- Janek Gwizdala talks about practicing and is being asked to do a spontaneous improvisation based on the keyword: "Traffic". Listen and watch as the city awakens and the traffic builds up...

I have listened to this piece many, many times. It always brings me first to a solitary morning in a traffic jam, thinking of my life while in the car. Then things start moving and by the end of the piece the car is riding down a silent, solitary, bright road under the early afternoon sun in Southern California. It is all images and thoughts, just pictured with music. Hands down one of my favourite pieces of music.
this is amazing....im suprised it doesnt have more views......thats art right there!
No lie, our neighbors car alarm went off during practice with my previous band. During a tuning break, I began to play to the tune of the alarm and our bassist at the time quickly followed. It became one of the most awesome 6 or 7 minute jam sessions ever.
That started as "Traffic" and ended with "Janek's car floating into outer space"
7:00 min through the End are a dream. Most beautiful music I've ever heard....
this was absolutely beautiful, I was so lost in that
that groove at 6:00 i wish he would have kept it right there omg but great video as always. One of my favorite bass players
Great improvisation! He is painting landscapes with that bass.. great inspiration! thanks Janek and TC Electronic for this awesome material ;)
This is absolutely mind blowing. What incredible creativity and vision.
@MrBribass No worries, non taken. - I'm not trying to work towards a common understanding, and I appreciate your opinion:)
Man That groove at 5:59.... Can listen to that all day!
I am amazed.
What a nice Traffic.
janek is my favorite bass player hands down, very soulful yet tasteful at he same time when he plays. it's like he's singing and telling a story at the same, the whole was amazing I just wish he would've kept that funky groove he was playing at 6:05 thats my favorite part. Anyway thanks for this video
this is amazing
great !!!!!
I knew he'd start out with the half steps, perfect car horn emulation.
Music is all about expression and creativity and that's what Janek did here. Look what Jaco also did in some his live spontaneous improvisation like "slang", he was fearless and so as Janek who did this at his clinic. This is his clinic so he has every right to say his opinion about music and his own personal style as a musician.
Dear MrBribass you are of course entitled to your own opinion. playing straight scales, arpeggios, and chord scales/tones isn't always the answer, it takes much more than that and it is called creativity or imagination and Janek has been definitely been blessed with that...among other musical qualities (beautiful choice of notes harmonically and melodically) that could allow him not only to pass any audition but to run a Bass Department in any musical school...
@MrBribass I dissagree. A good impro and good info communicated brilliantly. - Maybe I'm biased? :) (or boring..)
Definiately my favouriye bass player atm.
Sounds like Sim City 9000! Awesome!!!
nice!
THEM harmonics starting @ 7:12
@MrBribass Also quite humble I see.
this won't but the concept of being able to apply melody to anything makes you a better musician which in turn helps you land gigs...
effects master
@MrBribass Man I think that You are against the creativity, your comments are so " basic " and at last without any interesting point ! Janek is an extraordinary amazing bass player ! he won the recognition of all the greatest bass players , so Get your mentality out of there ...
Sublime example of improvisation with feeling not just technique. Demonstrates soulful communication and knowledge without having to do 'licks'. by the way TC... What loop pedal is he using? thanks
Janek how do you get those vanilla sky echoes
the ditto wasnt out at this time
I wonder what your improvisation of "traffic" would be.
since he's a tc player probably the ditto looper
@MrBribass: But that's not the point. Of course it will never get you a gig, and you would be laughed off the stage if you tried to audition for something using this concept. It's just a cool concept that you can do to challenge your own creativity. I've had people request similar things of me at open mics. Best one anyone ever requested was "Godzilla has a pink egg." It's not easy lol. Yes, it sounds dull and uninteresting, but again, it's more of a practice/challenge than it is a song.
a loop pedal
@MrBribass I respect your opinion but I think you may be missing the point here. In the bigger picture the goal of music isn't always getting gigs, or making money with a working band. This is for the sake of novelty, fun, and experimentation.
Really? With any working band? Damn I didn't think anyone had heard them all. You should call Guinness.
dude...this guy is working a lot. Do you think he just walks into auditions playing shit like this?
And in fairness, to a bigger point, what you say probably was closer to the truth 30-40 years ago, but this is a new generation and the older generation (mirroring current politics) is having trouble keeping up. Ageist? May slightly guilty, but there is a point to it. You don't have a Robert Glasper or a Snarky Puppy with that kind of thinking. Simply, that kind of comment is a bit anachronistic.
tcelectronic does not have to say anything, I wilI. It won't get any gig you are relegated to. If you wanted to play with real avant-garde musicians like V. Wooten, Robert Glasper, Brad Meldau Snarky Puppy, Hiromi, Pat Metheny, The Mars Volta, Tool, Marcus Miller, Fred Hammond, Chick Corea, etc.. then you will be laughed out of the room with your downbeats in root position that may or may not be on time because you are too busy stewing in jealousy at real creative genius in a practical context.
he cant even play jingle bell properly .. joke !
sorry l removed all my comments but if you knew what my gig guide and sessions amountted to you would only be jealous, im a fulltime bass guitarist and plays all styles of music very well, by the way l checked out your page to, well ......................
