    I put the ITP Blackwater Evo's on my current and previous Arctic Cat 700's. They are VERY, VERY stiff. I found, airing down to 3-5 psi made a HUGE difference. They are my favorite tires for the varied terrain here in the great Pacific Northwest of the USA.

    Great way to do a tire review but there is still one piece of information missing. How long will they last without cracking? That would be an excellent piece of info to add. I had some ITP mud lites with lots of tread left but with no obvious cracks but upon closer examination they were leaking from the sidewalls and had started craking around the lugs.
    From what I have seen Kenda tires could possibly be the worst for cracking. Is that a thing of the past with Kenda? Or have they improved in the last 5 years?

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ron, thanks for brining that up. That's something we will have to take into consideration for next time. Although, cracking is typically associated with the manner in which the tires/vehicle is stored. Leaving tires/vehicle stored in direct sunlight/ heat or wet/damp/cold conditions for extended periods of time can accelerate deterioration of the rubber which can cause cracking. Not sure about the issue you bring up about Kenda.

    I would have liked to have seen a rock category. The trails where I live either have lots of big, sharp boulders, or it's full on peat bog. Then of course, we have to travel a fair amount of dirt road and pavement to link up the trails, so I need a tire that's smooth riding, durable, and decent in the mud. Tough combination.

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  Před rokem +1

      Hello, thanks for the input. Due to so many tires we tested, this was an extremely long couple of days of testing. We did the tests because we found locations that allowed us to tackle multiple tests in two different locations. Unfortunately there were no rocky areas within close proximity that would have made testing all these tires along with doing all the other tests feasible. Maybe next time.

The Blackwater Evolution tire were 36 lbs for the front and 41 lbs for the rear tires for a total of 154 lbs. The winning tire with just as aggressive tread pattern, the AMS Slingshot weighed 28 lbs for the front and 31 lbs for the rear making them 16 pounds lighter in the front and 20 pounds lighter in the rear. I think that was the main reason they did not fair as well as I would have guessed. I tried the AMS Slingshot XT tires based on this review. But I needed the 14" Rim size for my Outlander 650 XT, and they are literally 2" shorter than my OEM 26" tires. In this review I know they are all comparing 25" with 12" rim size. but many of today's expensive quads ship with 14" rims. So my advice if you have a 14" rim, "Do not buy AMS Slingshot XT in a 14" rim size."

    A test that you did not do, how they perform on wet rock or wet clay.. I have used several tires myself as well as ride with people who have various tires.. My liking for the top tire for all around, are the Interco Reptile radials, only to be out done in one category by the MudCat (Ocelot P-375) and that was wet rocks and wet clay.. mainly because of the soft compound of the MudCats.. but they do not wear very well at all.. I don't know if you tested the Reptiles or if you did what your results were but in my opinion the Reptile is the best all around tire (other than wet rocks - and even there they were not totally lacking and were more than adequate and only slightly took second behind the MucCat).. The only real drawback of the Reptiles is in sand or very extreme loose dirt where you will dig a hole really fast, (mainly because of the aggressive tread and 1 inch deep cleats) and compromise your situation so throttle control is a must in the really extreme loose stuff.. In order to get the Reptiles to perform on par with the MudCats on wet rock - dropping the air pressure in the Reptiles almost produces the same results as MudCats (but who is going to keep adjusting tire pressure while on the trail)..

      Great suggestion in the dirt. We did measure each tire, mounted to the wheel, and all with the same air pressure, but not on the vehicle. All 22 of the 25" tires we tested measured between 24-1/4" and 25-1/4". The majority were 24-1/4" with just two measuring exactly 25" and two which measured larger than 25". Tread depth was .57" to 1.1" with most being pretty close to 1". Lots of variables. How would you propose the tires be measured? Mounted or Unmounted? If mounted, at what air pressure? Chaparral Motorsports that's great news. I've not been that lucky with tires that have more of a sport, knobby type tread. Some have been over two inches smaller than what they were labeled as. Thanks for letting us know these are fairly accurate. Yes, if you measure them do it with them on the rim and aired up to a medium to max recommended pressure in them as that would be when it matters to most of us, I think

    Finding this weird. Have had a cupple of these tires. But, not one of them, can beat big horn 2.0 in norwegian terrain. Not in the swamps, not in steep slippery hills with wet or dry stones, not in sandy condition, not on wet slippery root sections. And, not in breaking on asphalt or gravel..
    So, I'm not relying on this test, because I fint it not correct at all.
    The tires that I have had is, ams slingshot xt.
    Kenda mastadon at.

      Road noise is irrelevant on a tire that is primarily offroad in dirt and mud on an atv or scan that's going to be louder than the sound of the tire.

Why did they not have the Kenda Executioner in this dog fight ? The ITP Blackwater is more designed for the bigger and stronger ATV and I would never sell a set of 25" Blackwater to my customers .

    You can not rate heavyweight tires on your atv with out putting a clutch pack. Unfair rating system. Customer who put heavy tire on without a boost in performance is being set up for failure. If you are a power sport company you would know this and advise your customers accordingly.
